I have been impressed with the resurgence of Shadow Lake. I work just down 370 for a defense contractor and never thought it would come back like it has.

That's definitely part of it! It's been handy on the way home from work. They also landed the area's first Rally House which seems to be building more momentum. Copps, Early Bird, Mas Chignon and the previously mentioned Olive Garden have all been solid additions. And Ross Dress for Less coming soon.

The Sarpy County Chamber held a ribbon cutting for the business formerly know as Apples & more.

Ribbon Cutting Wall to Wall Wine & Spirits

Wall to Wall Wine and Sprits has several locations with the largest in Papillion. Earlier this month the store celebrated its one year anniversary with the help of the Sarpy County Chamber and a ribbon cutting.

My wife saw a post on Facebook yesterday (1/28/23) that Best Buy at Shadow Lake Town Center would be closing March 4th. (Photo of signage with details shared from Paul S. of Papillion.)

The comments on the post mentioned stories from customers who had asked for details from employees… so take this with a grain of salt… the word is that the customer volume actually increased at that location over the past two years, but the lease is up, and the new rate is higher than Best Buy wants to pay.

We live closer to West Omaha and while I’ve been an infrequent visitor to the Shadow Lake location, it was definitely a ‘smaller’ store feel and the service was always good enough to keep me happy. Hopefully any employees who want to stick around can move to the other remaining locations.

I liked the Best Buy in Shadow Lake, it was better than the one/easier to get, to then in Village Point. I will miss the one in here, better get Shadow Lake to step up their game plan.

I keep hoping this falls through. There has to be a better use for this land, especially with firestone feet away.

And, Best Buy is now gone. That isca hole Shadow Lake will struggle to fill. It's already an eyesore when you first drive in.

Shadow Lake over the past few years is in much shape than it had been. I kind of wrote it off a few years ago but it has bounced back nicely. I work for a government contractor down the street and go to Shadow Lake more now than I have on the 7 years since I have been there.

I was so wrong on Shadow Lake, they continue their rebound. From the Grow Omaha newsletter:

Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion is about to welcome four new retailers. Skechers, Dogtopia and Carter’s will open next to one another between an existing Subway restaurant and Five Below store. Skin Experts will open next to Bath & Body Works. Skechers expects to open by the end of October. The other retailers have not yet announced opening dates.

That is awesome. With the amount of new homes still going up in Sarpy along the 370 corridor, it makes this rebound more feasible than other areas. But, they have done a decent job too.

Work to do though still. The central aisle still struggles with empty bays and the former Best Buy will need to be filled as it's an empty eyesore right when you drive in.

Think there may be a new tenant, a major one, for Shadow Lake coming sometime soon. But, since it's not announced or confirmed, not posting it at this point. We shall see what develops. Just heard something from a 3rd hand source.

Nestled in the former Best Buy space at Shadow Lake, Barnes & Noble will occupy an expansive 12,000 SF, and is currently under construction.

Not sure if 12,000 SF is the entire old Best Buy store, or just a portion of it. Regardless, interesting to see a chain bookstore opening a new store in 2024 -- seems like B&N is staging a bit of a comeback.

I’d be stunned - the Oak View one is always packed, plus this is pretty far away from it.

If the Oakview B&N closes, the city needs to rework the intersections on either side of that lot, where the Kohl's road dead ends into the "thru" road that can take you past the theater all the way to 132nd. It's just a mess.

Wish B&N would open at Village Pointe. I've always thought that's a nice store to go into and stay for a bit and I don't read often. But with the coffee shop, etc it's a cool place. I'm glad they're at least expanding some. Always was worried ALL bookstores would shut their doors with the internet.

I would be very surprised. And it's not exactly like the 2 stores would be at all close to each other. It's always busy. Just drove by it earlier today and it was a pretty full lot, and it's a Tuesday morning..

I agree that they're not close together and the Oakview B&N gets plenty of activity. I still hate the way those roads come together!

I'm glad they were able to fill the Best Buy location. Having that right at the entrance was a blight and Barnes and Noble was a good get for that area. Brings in foot traffic. I hope it does well as the Borders there was one of the first Nebraska Borders locations to close. It never did well from the start.

Not sure what it is but I always thought Barnes and Noble was a better store than Borders. That goes for the Borders that was located on 132nd and Maple as well as 72nd and Dodge.

Not that I wish for either to close... but this is a good store for Shadow Lake!

A great catch for Sarpy county. Sure it will do well. The one at Oak View always seems pretty busy.

I was just speculating the other day that enough bookstores have closed over the last 20 years that the few remaining are doing okay.

I will be interested to see a NEW Barnes & Noble and how they design and layout the store. The old locations have sacrificed some book space in order to diversity the merchandise (toys, games, stationary).

They still have a ton of openings in that center bay, and I'm not sure there is a way to fix that area given the lack of vision for the stores and terrible parking in that area, but overall, it's been a great turnaround for Shadow Lake and I wasn't sure it was possible.

PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - A new Barnes & Noble store is set to open at Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion. This comes after years of major bookstores shutting down locations across the national and local landscape. A Barnes & Noble once stood at 74th and Dodge Street near Target at the former Crossroads Mall. A Borders bookstore was across the street on the corner of 72nd and Dodge. Borders went out of business in 2011. One of the only major bookstores still standing in the Omaha metro is the Barnes & Noble at Oak View Mall. Now, Barnes & Noble is turning the page. The bookseller is taking over the former Best Buy Store in Papillion, which closed in 2023.

700+ apartments along with a parking garage would help
