Maybe posthumously. If worthless Mike Fahey gets a street, she should be getting significantly more.

Not a fan naming things after a Mayor. It was their job to make things happen for the city. You don't see Bob the office worker getting a cubicle named after him because he showed up and did his job.
I just didn't know if there was a big donor that paid for a lot of it. Naming it after them would be a nod to say thank you.
Most likely it will be Omaha's Central Library.

Project leaders on Omaha's new central library sign steel beam that will be installed this summer
Construction on the new central Omaha Public Library location is nearing a big milestone. The 96,000-square-foot branch is being built at 72nd and Dodge streets and is set to be done in 2026. However, Omaha Public Library officials said crews plan to finish the steelwork and have the exterior enclosed by this summer. Library and city leaders will hold a beam signing to mark the milestone on Tuesday night. When finished, the new building will centralize collections in the library system and it will provide full library services.

Just watched the segment from KETV tonight about the beam signing and Stothert said there is much more to come for Omaha development. No specifics provided but between this and her recent segment on grow Omaha, she has me excited.

I take the bus by this all the time. It’s cool to see it rising but they need to do something about pedestrian crossings. I cross 72nd and Dodge and in the morning people are oblivious and will take a right turn when you’re standing right by them with the crossing light on.

'You ain't seen nothing yet':
Omaha celebrates milestone in Central Public Library construction
Omaha's Central Public Library is starting to take shape as construction crews begin putting the finishing touches on the steel frame. HDR hosted a beam-signing ceremony today to commemorate the progress. Donors, community partners and city officials got the chance to sign the final beam going on the library. Heritage Omaha, who worked to gather donations project, also announced that they've surpassed the $158 million goal. That includes $20 million from the city of Omaha. As the 2026 completion date gets closer, anticipation increases.

When the library is finished, it will only shine a brighter light on how bad that intersection (and general area, especially to the west) is for pedestrians.PotatoeEatsFish wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2024 12:55 am I take the bus by this all the time. Do the halo! This would be one of the coolest and most useful things to happen in Omaha. Imagine a ring over that intersection, suspended by a Wembley stadium type arch. It can, and totally should be done. With Omaha's track record of late, this is by no means far fetched.Louie wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2024 8:29 amWhen the library is finished, it will only shine a brighter light on how bad that intersection (and general area, especially to the west) is for pedestrians.PotatoeEatsFish wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2024 12:55 am I take the bus by this all the time. Well physically speaking it would help Jean & Co's notion of "city center". And if they're getting Tiff involved with the library maybe a little Heritage funding too?Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2024 9:56 amDo the halo! Construction workers celebrate 'topping out' new Omaha Public Library
Construction workers celebrated the placement of the final piece of steel on the Omaha Central Public Library. Workers recognized the structural finish of a building by "topping out" the structure with an American flag and an evergreen tree on the final beam. The next phase of construction starts with building exterior walls. The library is expected to be done in 2026. The public can join in commemorating the completed framework by taking photos and videos from the Target parking lot on 72nd and Dodge streets.

Thanks!

I'm now back in Omaha and I was curious about the progress of the Central Library and to see how the new downtown library turned out. Here's a video about the two new libraries in case anyone's interested.

I see so much opportunity here. I like the design, I like the location, but it is devoid of pedestrian friendliness. I soooooo want that halo idea to happen. I see no reason why it couldn't or shouldn't.

Nice Photo Brad, like the angle. This is another exciting development in Omaha, if the mutual tower was not being built I would probably be following this one closer.
