West of I-680, there is plenty of right of way on both sides to add additional lanes to West Maple, which leads me to question why we need some big survey?

Probably because a study will be used by our representatives to lobby for federal dollars, or it's a requirement for a federal grant, etc.

Fort should have been widened many years ago, that will be more impactful to Maple than widening it. Maple is not congested, it's busy, and I doubt widening it will make any difference in travel time at all, to be honest. It has extremely wide and long turn lanes in all cases so it's effectively already very wide. There are only two lanes of straight-ahead but anybody who is braking should be in a turn lane.

Agree with this. Fort is in worse condition, too. Make that four lanes between 120th to whatever, and that should help fix the mini-rush hours.

I'm guessing you mean 192nd. To the north, Sarpy County is in the process of paving all the roads and connecting 192nd to 180th - https://www.connectsarpy.com/updates/west-sarpy.

They are also paving 204th & Capehart - https://www.connectsarpy.com/updates/204th-capehart.

Widening Maple probably alleviates traffic on West Dodge Rd, and the city probably expects retail to continue to fill in (like the Costco / Fleet Farm / etc coming in).

Probably the long and short of it all is that the city believes it's an easier "sell" to widen Maple, so that's what we'll get.

Resurfacing happening along Highway 50 this year along with the intersection of 144th and Harrison being widened for dual-left turns.

Resurfacing starts Monday. Widening starts in May.

Likely funding. They have been planning four lane expansion down to 370 and the page for 168th Street on ConnectSarpy.com originally was talking about that towards the end of the decade. But they recently pivoted to this stopgap project there, which seems like they realized funding is further out than originally envisioned.

Sarpy has some major projects they have been doing or are planning - West Sarpy (180th area), East Sarpy (60th area), Platteview Expressay. Grow Omaha mentioned last show that funding for Platteview may fall onto the county.

Doing it this way is just gonna end up costing more in the long run I would think...maybe Bellevue, LaVista, Papillion, Chalco, and Gretna should just merge and pool their resources haha

Maybe there is a thread for State Street specifically, but I had this thought cross my mind as I'm headed to Cunningham. With all the development that's happening on state street, both south of 680, and west of 133, do we think A.) State street ever face the need to be widened to 4 lanes from 72nd on west? B.) Will there ever be a need to put in an exit for said State Street/Cunningham road? If so, put on your road engineer hat and say what you think it'll look like.
I think one day in my lifetime there will be a need for it, maybe by 2050. I think it'd be real convenient, as of right now you either have to get off the interstate real early or real late to get to that area. It's near 3 miles between 72nd and Blair High.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The City of Omaha is in the early design phases to widen Fort Street from 120th to 126th Street from two lanes to four divided by a median. Neighbors say it'll help with traffic congestion.

The issue neighbors have driving in Northwest Omaha is traffic and roads not accommodating growth.
"That's always basically a cram area for cars to come together because the four lane goes down to two lanes real quick and everyone's racing to get through that light to get to that, you know, bridge."
Construction on the widening effort will begin in 2025.

The intersection of 168th & Ida is set to be widened this year to three lanes with a signal. It is currently two lanes with stop signs.

I was driving south on 204th street last night around 5:30pm. The traffic is so bad on that road and so many stop lights,, it takes forever to get to the interstate from NorthWest Omaha. I really wish the city would have turned that into a North/South expressway early on with overpasses and such. Going to 680 to head west on 80 just feels wrong to me and we have no other quick alternatives on the far west side of the city. This feels like a massive miss to me as the city grows further west.

Agreed, but I am just saying that at some point I think the city / county needs to look a new North / south connection. Maybe taking 275 and extending it south to the interstate.
