Omaha in Video Games

Post by 2Adam29 »

Thought some folks might find it cool. Omaha, and in fact the entirety of the state, is getting recreated for American Truck Simulator's Nebraska expansion pack. They don't have a release date yet but looks like a pretty decent job!

Omaha in Video Games

Post by Renovator2559 »

Also try the latest Microsoft Flight simulator, there are even extra Omaha packs that improve the night and detail of the Bob Kerry bridge and other features. You can literally fly from Eppley Airport, fly through the Omaha skyline as close as you want to the towers, if desired you can land on Millard airport, Lincoln airport and any other.

I only tried this to see how Omaha looks and it's pretty accurate, not that good at flying

Not a problem! When I get the chance I'll be sure to include several screenshots and since the settings are maxed on high the quality of the screenshots should look photo realistic.

The reason I got Microsoft Simulator, was because I saw a picture of a detailed picture of the inside of Eppley Airfield, that came from the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator. I will try not crash onto Eppley Airfield

Once I get the pictures, I will probably place them on a different thread that could be called "Omaha in Video Games" and then probably request the move of these game related messages into that thread.

Well, thanks for keeping this thread separate, now the other thread can continue with the relevant topic at hand.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Edition or the current latest version. Simulates the current weather, time, as well as actual live traffic data
It even has several Omaha packs, including Eppley Airport and other attractions in Omaha.

The data is from I believe Bing maps, and the Omaha map data appears to be that of 2016. So everything depicted but you are going back in time before all of our current developments took place. Its mind blowing how things have changed.

In Omaha while flying my Ornithopter, some people may know where that comes from :)

Some good fly-bys of the old Heartland of America Park; Lewis and Clark Landing.
I even landed the Thopter in the Conagra entrance, some of the shrubs may look strange but that is the photogrammetry data from bing and most if not all trees look realistic, in certain areas.

Aksarben looks like it was under construction, and the HDR HQ is not there.

I must have caused panic in 2016 downtown Omaha, since I got too close with my Concorde

I can't believe there was an ugly parking lot by Gene Leahy Mall and the Conagra campus

It's actually Bing maps data and photogrammetry. Petabytes of it.

And it's out of date for sure. There are mods to stream Google's maps / Earth data instead of course.

I heard of that mod but I heard that Microsoft did patches that broke this functionally.

And yes you are right about all the streaming data, it's a lot and each component packs take up plenty of space 100s of gigabytes, especially if you buy extras but it's all worth it. No need to worry about running out of storage space anytime soon

Still, I think even if these maps are from around 2016, they are quite valuable for us to travel back in time and see how much Omaha has changed.
