Bellevue University has announced plans to construct a new 72,000-plus square foot, multimillion dollar Athletics Field House just west of the University’s main campus, on Harvell Circle off of Herman Drive.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Field House will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m

The two-level building will include multiple competition and practice courts for both basketball and volleyball; Athletic training facilities, including a weight room and locker rooms; a press room area; and office, meeting and storage space.

Facility designs have not yet been finalized, but Bellevue University President Dr. Mary Hawkins expects the project to be completed in 18-24 months after the start of construction.

“This new facility and our student athletes will be a winning combination,” Dr. Hawkins said. “This state-of-the-art facility is a major step in our strategic facilities plan. It opens up opportunities for us to enhance and expand student services and resources for our students who learn on campus and those who learn online.”

Athletic Director Ed Lehotak said all of the University’s student-athletes and coaches are excited to see the project come to life. “We expect this to have a very positive impact on the experience for our student athletes, as well as our staff, faculty, fans and officials,” Lehotak said. “Athletes on all of our sports teams and our coaches will benefit in a big way.” The Bruins currently compete in 11 traditional men’s and women’s sports and one non-traditional co-ed sport, Esports.

Bellevue University and broader community hopes new athletic facility will bring 'big energy'
Aminah Hall gives her all playing basketball at Bellevue university

“I’m a big energy person,” She said. “I like to bring energy for other people and hopefully that reciprocates on on the court.”

Now she’s hoping a new athletic center will bring big energy of it’s own. The $30 million, 72,000 sq ft. athletic facility is currently under construction just west of campus.
...
The expected opening date is approximately set for around March 2025.

Bellevue University Provides Athletic Field House Update

There were smiles all around Friday as Bellevue University hosted an open house to showcase the progress made on its new 72,000-square-foot field house. Construction is still underway and should be completed in early 2025. However, due to the mild winter in Bellevue, things are a little ahead of schedule. The new facility will encompass more than 72,000 square feet, including courts for both volleyball and basketball competitions and chair-back seating for over 1,000 fans. Other highlights include a Hall of Fame room for alumni and current athletes, a dedicated press room, and a centralized place for all of the head coaches’ offices.

The rendering states that they aren't sure on the 'BU" sign placement, but I was hoping they would also do more landscaping to that hill. Could make it look a lot better from Ft Crook Rd.

Couple of pictures from their recent game they played in the new gym: (From OWH)

Looks pretty generic, hopefully they can add some banners on those blank grey walls.

I mean it looks better than what was there. But I remember Bellevue univ officials saying that the public was going to really like what they do with it and all they did was put in grass, a sidewalk and that plain sign. I thought maybe it would have a fountain or some cool light piece not just 2 letters.

I agree it does look better, but yeah, I hope that’s not the entirety of their vision.

Another picture of the whole site. Still better than it was but they could have done much better.
