I thought this could be fun. I've lived my entire life in Omaha, and I know the street grid quite well. 99% of the time, you name an intersection, and I'd know how to get there, no looking at maps or Google. But sometimes there are obscure street names and numbers that I just can't find in my head, despite how long I've been here.
So the challenge here is: name or randomly throw out an intersection or a landmark that you think is difficult to find and see if others know where it is or know anything about it. For example, I rolled dice and I ended up with the number 15. I rolled again and I ended with 11 (11th letter in the alphabet is K), which would be a street name starting with K. So the goal i
Would be to find an intersection of 15th and a street name starting with a K.
It can be any random location, any random landmark, any random intersection, names or numbers. Post pictures, make descriptions, roll dice, draw cards, or just think it up. No maps though, just knowledge. I think it's interesting we can live our whole lives not visiting or knowing about every corner of this kinda small city.
So for formality when you answer a trivia, ask a question for the next post.
I'll start with an easy one.
Where is a HyVee next to a creek?

I’ll bite!
- Peony Park Hy Vee off 78th and Cass is next to the Little Papio
- though it isn’t the closest Hy-Vee to us, we regularly go to this one because it seems to have better/ fresher produce than other locations
- though Storz beer is no longer brewed, the Storz mansion still stands beautifully in tact where?

That's the one I was thinking of, though I realized it could have been the one at 90th & Center too.
I don't know the answer to your trivia, but I'm looking forward to hearing from somebody who does!

How about historical BINGO: At what cross street was the old Shaver's Supermarket on North 60th Street?
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

Cool, I would have not known. I drive by it somewhat often, so I'm surprised I never really took it in. Might have to go for a walk sometime.

On the subject of Mansions, here's one I do know... built some time in the late 1800's, the Edgar Zabriskie mansion was lucky to be missed by the 1913 tornado that tore through North Omaha, but still stands in what neighborhood at what intersection?

Another mansion. It was built by Mr. Schmoller of the Schmoller & Mueller Piano Company. It was built in 1905 and a carriage house was added later. It's at 3402 Woolworth. It was the Omaha Symphony Designer Showhouse in 1983.
Here's where I come in. My grandfather bought it in the 40's. From what my father told me it was huge and the third floor had a ballroom with a stage & a grand piano, although he rode his bike up there when it rained. My grandfather bought it because it was cheap & the family was pretty big. Also, the carriage house had an apartment on the second floor where my aunt and uncle lived. They didn't live in it long.
Here are a couple of pics.

Here's the listing at the Douglas County Assessor's site.

Throwing a wild guess at it: North 38th Street south of Cuming. Some mighty impressive old homes in that stretch.Busguy2010 wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 12:17 pm

That there are! You're close, but not quite. Here's a picture of it-guy4omaha wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 3:42 pm Throwing a wild guess at it: North 38th Street south of Cuming. Some mighty impressive old homes in that stretch.

But you're right, so many of those houses in gold coast are big enough to be called Mansions. Some of them are probably bigger moreso than the Zabriskie mansion.
