Hey guys. I know some of you have already made the move, so I just wanted to get an idea of who all is over here so far. I know Rob is over here, which is AWESOME! Who else?

Hey Aaron-

I've always wanted to move over to this forum...just to get things back on discussion. I appreciate everyone's passion...but sometimes emotions get conveyed incorrectly in the written word. I guess you learn to pick your battles and ignore others. Perhaps that comes with age.

In any case...I do hope that people participate on this forum...even those with hard feelings from the "other" forum.

By the way, I'm in Detroit this weekend...no snow...but cold. A LARGE sprawling city trying to recover and recreate itself. I'll take Omaha anyday.

Just remember guys, we are all family here...so just respect one another.

I've never had any problems with arguments... even emotional ones (sans any personal attacks that is)... but rather when I see individuals apparently with no interest in the well being of the common topic of discussion (in this particular case... Omaha!)... on a chamber of commerce website no less. Absent that... I figure the only motivation for being here... is to push other peoples buttons. I'm continually astonished that there are people who find enjoyment in spending their precious time engaged in such behavior. I won't tolerate it here. I can't guarantee that there won't be posts made... but I can assure you I will make every effort to respond quickly, and keep this forum steered in only a direction reflecting all our interests in the well being of Omaha. If you're not a fan for the well being of ALL things Omaha... urban, suburban, black, white, small business, big business, public, parochial, etc, etc, etc... then you shouldn't be here.

This isn't going to replace the chamber forum... which will remain a much more visible site. But if it supplements it while providing 'safe haven' of sorts... I guess it'll fill a niche. Enjoy.

In the future... I'll probably make photos posts here... and post a link over 'there'.

By the way... in case you hadn't figured it out... I'm blocking Joe's ip address (including the 'anonymous' web browsing site he attempted to use). I'm sure he'll probably find some way around it eventually... but I'll stay on top of him.

I agree with you guys...the posters over on the chamber's site have gotten a little off track and the content had begun to degenerate as of late. I'll probably still post over there from time to time - but will here more frequently should this forum take off.

Jeff, thanks for providing this forum. I stopped frequently posting on omahachamber about a year ago and will probably completely stop now (I can only be active on so many forums!). I've been meaning to join this forum for a while now and finally made the move today. Looking forward to some great posts in the future!

Also, we need to have another forum meet before I leave in May - but after the snow melts.

Yes, we should try another forum meet sometime in late April or early May. If the timing works out right, something tells me we'll have a larger turnout than last time. We still ended up with 5 people last time, which wasn't too shabby! I suppose its never too late to start planning this thing. Maybe a thread should be created over this topic as we move into later into spring.

I'm hoping this forum finally takes off. It's a more expansive BB with many more features than the chamber site. Here's to a successful relaunch of of a good thing (omaha development discussion).

I'd love to do another forumer meet!!! I'm pretty flexible, so I'll work with whatever everyone else can do.

Also, I went ahead and put a graphic in my signature. If it's annoying to anyone let me know and I can take it off. It's pretty much just an expirament;).

I've been longing for another Forum meet. I really miss hanging out with you guys. Yeah, yeah the internet is cool...but doing our "around" town road trip was pretty cool last year. I'm flexible too...it sounds like many are interested in the late April to May time zone. If we decide to meet...lets see if we can spend more than a few hours and try to put an agenda together. It would be nice to meet others who did not attend last year. Maybe we can even try a Des Moines forum trip in the future!

I'll help with the planning if you guys want to meet.

E, is it possible to change how many posts you're allowed to have on one page? We could stack up 15 posts per thread pretty quickly, and it would be a lot of shuffiling back and forth between pages.

Just a thought to get discussion going, but maybe someone should make a post about each of the major development projects currently going up or proposed in the Omaha area, regardless of how old the news is.

Maybe some of the regular and relevant posters on the Omaha Chamber forum would be more inclined to comment on this board if more topics were available.

There seems to be this misconception over on the other forum that this place is some exclusionary clique of forumers that don't want to be a part of the rest of of old forum establishment. This couldn't be further from the truth and we would welcome all forumers that want to contribute something productive and abide by the rules/terms of service. Please, don't look at this as just a forum of hardcore liberal, pro-Omaha urbanites, because I don't think that's what those of us that have moved over here were intent on having.

I can't speak for everyone here, but this forum will be a refreshing alternative that is actually moderated with rules that will actually be enforced. Knowing eomaha, I don't see this place as a forum that won't allow dissenting opinions or a difference in viewpoints. However, I think the point of moving over here was to provide a sanctuary from the posters that constantly cause distractions, turn every thread into a biggoted, provacative, arguement filled diatribe. Hopefully, this forum can get everyone back to what we came here to do in the first place-discussing everything Omaha, including development without all the nonsense that was/is taking place on the chamber forum. As long as you carry yourself in a mature manner and respect other's opinions, you'll be welcomed aboard, regardless of your opinions.

Everyone else should come on over! There's no need for an Omaha forum rivalry (that just sounds silly), and hopefully this forum can compliment the chamber forum nicely and vice versa.

Well, I did apply for a planning job in Omaha when I was fresh out of school. Unfortunately, I didn't get the position, but I've entertained and looked forward to the thought of living in Omaha plenty of times.

Thanks for the offer to be your "secretary" on the planning staff someday, but I've got aspirations to be a developer or get into the economic development/chamber of commerce sector.

Anyone who wants to have mature, rational discussions about all the great things going on in Omaha is welcome over here. And that even includes the infamous Joe Mapleton (Joemoney) if he could ever learn some manners and straighten himself up

Didn't mean to offend you with my job offer...

I don't think you'd want to work for the planning department anyway, as I've heard bad things about the folk that work there (albeit there are some good individuals), most recently from a young planner who worked in Omaha for 6 years and now works for the city of Lincoln and likes the climate better there. But all that will change when I come in.

I hope you decide to move to Omaha when your developer goals come to be realized!

Ditto that Aaron---Ryan you must come join our masterplan. I plan to consolidate my offices in DC and Detroit to Omaha (in the future)...and look forward to having Eric and Aaron around to provide favorable incentives for me to move downtown.

hey, if a more entry level planning job comes up soon in Omaha, I'll jump all over it. At least I now know some people that could get a newcomer involved quite quickly.
