I guess QT's target demographic moved on. QT and MS cater to different clientele.

Re: Mega Saver (87th and Maple)
I drove by this and saw it on Sunday. Meant to say something. But I was shocked to see it as well. Especially with the Mega Saver right up the street. But I guess there are other examples of closely spaced Mega Savers.

Having been to that location pretty often since it was built, I do have to say it was always one of the slower locations. Especially at night.

I want to say that when I drove past the 72nd & Hickory location recently that the signage was down.
As far as the 87th & Maple store, it was never really busy, nor was the Kum & Go that used to be on 85th & Maple

Re: Mega Saver (Multiple Omaha Locations)
There's no way they will sell out on that one... Nor any of the other remaining locations... I don't think there's any smoke at QT just because this location closed. This particular corner has been rough on everybody who's tried it. We'll see if the Mega Saver even sticks.

Talked to a friend today that knows one of the Managers of the former QT on Maple. It was a smaller store that never performed to the level they had anticipated it would.

Must have really been in the red. SOME companies will keep lower volume stores to offset their balance sheets.

Re: Mega Saver (Multiple Omaha Locations)
I live in the general area and this QT was a choice of mine when I didn't want to deal with the business of some of the others. Even though I always knew it was a slower location, I was slightly surprised that it closed. Bottom line is it may not be a QT anymore, but it is still a gas station. Haven't been to it as a MegaSaver yet. May never. But as I said earlier, we will see if the MegaSaver even makes it.S.O.Boy wrote: Sun Feb 07, 2021 3:42 pmEverytime I drove by it was busy, but that doesn't always translate to sales.bbinks wrote: Sun Feb 07, 2021 1:37 amMust have really been in the red. I never realized 90th & Maple was also a Mega Saver. So they have three locations within what looks like maybe a half-mile from 88th & Blondo to 90th & Maple... Quite the saturation.

I would take MegaSaver over Church's Chicken.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

I never understood why Caseys had to sell off some of the Bucky's they bought to avoid having a monopoly but Megasaver can just take over the gas station in the parking lot of another Megasaver and it's coolBusguy2010 wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 4:19 pmThere's already three within like 3/4 mile, what could one more hurt?

In fairness there are two Casey's only 1400 feet apart at the 72nd & cornhusker area.

You can also argue the proximity of Starbucks or Scooters. As long as each location is turning a profit, you can't say it's over saturated.Nosebot wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:02 pm In fairness there are two Casey's only 1400 feet apart at the 72nd & cornhusker area.

oh if the market supports it I don't necessarily have an issue with multiple of any chains in a small area, it just seems like the rules were applied rather inconsistently in the Caseys/Buckys casebbinks wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:52 pmYou can also argue the proximity of Starbucks or Scooters. Maybe it had to do with Casey's being a national chain. Trashy as they are, at least Mega Saver/TP4L is local.ProgKingHughesker wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 12:49 amoh if the market supports it I don't necessarily have an issue with multiple of any chains in a small area, it just seems like the rules were applied rather inconsistently in the Caseys/Buckys casebbinks wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:52 pmYou can also argue the proximity of Starbucks or Scooters. Another note, there seems to be an exceptionally high concentration of them in that particular part of town. Just off the top of my head theres 72nd & Blondo, 85th & Blondo, 88th & Maple, 90th & Maple, 90th & Fort, 108th & Blondo, 108th & Maple. They all seem to do really well. I don't get how, but more power to em.

Casey's is in 16 states. I'm not sure I would call that a national chain.
Mega Saver is in three states. Nebraska, Iowa, and of course Florida

Re: Mega Saver (Multiple Omaha Locations)
I thought there was a saying something along the lines of "no matter where you go, there's a Casey's". I guess that's meant more in a regional sense, but still the point remains. Mega Saver's HQ is here and their bulk of business is here. It's an Omaha business, so I'm sure that's why they get a pass that Casey’s did not.nebugeater wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 10:55 am Casey's is in 16 states. Re: Mega Saver (Multiple Omaha Locations)
That part of town used to be between where I worked and where I live, I'd stop there for liquor quite a bit (I don't drive so can't beat gas station convenience at grocery store prices, especially if it's an Uber stop) and whenever the topic of Megasaver comes up somebody always seems to chime in about rude employees, but between the four that I shopped at semi-regularly the vast majority of the employees were always super nice to me. Sure, the company seems shady as heck, but at least at those particular ones I will absolutely go to bat for their employeesBusguy2010 wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 10:14 amMaybe it had to do with Casey's being a national chain. In terms of number of stores, Casey’s ranked number three in North America in 2023.
https://csnews.com/top-100-convenience- ... hains-2023
So other than 7-11, maybe all Convenience Store chains are regional.

Re: Mega Saver (Multiple Omaha Locations)
Casey's is a public company that had over $14 billion in revenue for the fiscal year ended April 30, 2024. Any expansion via acquisition is going to be scrutinized. In another industry, when Tractor Supply Co. bought Missouri based Orscheln Farm & Home, stores had to be divested to Bomgaars and another retailer I'm too lazy to look up to make the deal work.

You want to go down a rabbit hole, check out this site: https://www.cspdailynews.com/.
For example, Casey's has an allied brand, GoodStop which sells all of Casey's branded items, except they don't have a kitchen. I ran into one in Norman, OK last month.

The city voted against Mega Saver's liquor license application in today's council meeting. The state has the final say on liquor licenses, so it's merely a recommendation.

That was due to the Fantasy's acquisition. When Casey's bought Kabredlo's in Lincoln, there was a store next door to an existing Casey's on 70th & Havelock. Casey's kept both places open for almost a decade.Nosebot wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:02 pm In fairness there are two Casey's only 1400 feet apart at the 72nd & cornhusker area.

Re: Mega Saver (Multiple Omaha Locations)
Mega Saver bought B & D Pit Stop (at least three locations--Springfield, Gretna and Westmont). Much gnashing of teeth in Springfield, at least. I thought they were a Mom/Pop deal, but apparently Marsh Creek Concrete had owned the chain up until now.
Doesn't really fit into Mega's niche--these are, as far as I know, their smallest locations. Huh.

Bummer. B & D Pit Stop has a pretty decent line-up of hot breakfast choices and definitely had a non-chain feel to it.
