Looks like a pretty nice weather week ahead. With a warm up next weekend. I really hope we are done with severe weather for the remainder of the summer and fall.

Thankfully the heat up looks to only last a few days. Saturday-Monday, then a couple reasonably seasonable days to round out the forecast period.

Though I know anything can happen, during Bill Randby's weekly 14 day forecast last night, he sounded fairly optimistic that this indeed probably is the last brutally hot period we'll see.

I'm excited! I can't wait for that first really crisp cool morning. Though in recent years, fall/winter have tended to hold off longer than normal. We'll see, this spring/summer was quite the departure from recent years, so maybe fall and winter will be too.

I hope you're right. I spent last week in Montana, and even though it got to 90°-96° a few days, it never felt as hot as it did at midnight last night (86°)

The chance for severe weather returns to the area this coming Thursday with the potential for supercells in parts of the area including a risk for tornadoes. Obviously still too far out to know yet though but the SPC has an outlook that includes the Omaha area.

Looks like when the front comes through, the flip looks to be fairly drastic. A straight south wind to a straight north wind, so I'd expect there to be a fair amount of spin in the atmosphere. Let's hope we get through this unscathed.

The upcoming drop in dew points with this should feel pretty amazing. Just gotta get through one last miserable day today and it'll be feeling like fall. Only a high of 75 for labor day, the unofficial conclusion of summer!

Still think we will have potential for strong/severe storms in parts of our area - especially to the west/northwest of Omaha. But the main severe weather threat "currently" looks mostly outside of Omaha specifically at least.

Were still recovering from that storm in many ways. So many houses with tarps on them still. Insurance only just stopped by to check things out and I can't imagine anybody actually available to do the work anytime soon. I really think it'll be a race to try and get all these repairs done by winter. I just learned today a coworker hasn't had AC since the storm due to the unit being damaged. I could not imagine how terrible that has been.

I was over in the W. Maple rd area between 90th and I-680 this has been some of the worst damage I’ve seen, quite a few homes had some roof damage a few street lights had toppled over. I agree it’s unclear how long this roof damage is going to take to be repaired, Winter weather could be just 3-4 months away. The amount of damaged fences in Omaha is also staggering they are all over the place. From a money perspective this has to be one of Omaha’s most costly storms.

We're still waiting in the 156th and Pacific area for pickup. I'm guessing the raccoons that live in our sewer have set up shop in a few of the limb bunkers we have lining our streets.

Our neighborhood was picked up late last week and the supplies for our new roof were delivered today. Gonna feel good to have a real roof again soon...

Storms are at least "trying" to develop from near Omaha on south as a cumulus field is forming over much of the area. We'll see if anything can actually organize as this area pushes north our area over the next few hours. Otherwise the main threat will be once the front gets here late this afternoon into this evening...

I've been waiting for some cooler weather too, but it was nice jumping in our pool yesterday before the storms came in. The water was 87, which was perfect.

I've thoroughly enjoyed these cool nights. Been sleeping with the windows open, fans sucking in the cool air. It's been getting down to ~ 58 degrees at my bedside. I am a happy camper. I look forward to it getting even colder so I can maintain that 60ish degrees in the house without having to have the windows open. Yes, in the fall/winter, I set my thermostat to 60 and generally keep it that cool. That's just something simply unachievable in the summer. Looks like unfortunately there's another taste of summer for the next couple weeks-ish.

Ya know, for it being almost 90, it hasn't felt bad, due to the low dew point.

Looks like that's supposed to change in a few days with still above normal temps, but some rain chances come with a rise in humidity.

I'm eyeballing the end of the 14 day forecast, looks like this above normal bull pocky is supposed to end and it at least be more normal in time for my camping trips. That normal high and normal low by then is 75 and 51, which is almost perfect in my book. This is the time of year those averages basically drop a degree every other day. Hope to see this ridge break soon.

Seems like every year I've been more tempted to push my camping trips later in the year. Mid-late September, up to mid October used to be a safe bet for that perfect camping weather, cool enough at night and not more than maybe 75 during the day. Seems like recently I'd have been better off waiting until late October- early November.

It'll be interesting to see if the first freeze holds off like it has 3 of the last 5 years, generally 1-3 weeks later than the normal smack dab in the middle of October.

Just a heads up there is a chance for a few strong/severe storms later this afternoon and this evening from near or just of Omaha into much of Iowa. Damaging wind and hail will be the main threats though an isolated tornado is also possible.

Wow, they really backed off on temps. I'm eyeballing that Sunday and Monday not even reaching 70. Forecast was looking much warmer, maybe theres hope for camping in a week or two!

That's still 10 degrees warmer than 6 was saying the other day. Something changed, I guess the north wind wasn't quite is strong, and I also think WOWT was being quite liberal. Still I'm loving it. I'll take a high of 68 every single day of my life if I could.

I'm so glad this cooler weather is here, just beautiful outside. Even last night with the top off the Jeep and a sweatshirt on - that's the best.

The only con of sleeping with the windows open is our jackass backyard neighbors who let their dogs out every day before 6am, then whistle to bring them back in, sending our dogs into a barking frenzy juuuuust before our alarms go off.

Yes, we were one of the lucky ones, we ended up with .40" in Bellevue, but even that wasn't much.

Haha, I feel the same way, I love to have our windows open as much as possible, but there is a neighbor behind us that goes out to smoke at crazy odd hours and their dog goes out with him and barks even when the leaves ruffle a little bit, which causes our dog to bark as well.

I keep telling people that although it appears this year has been wetter than the past few (we are technically up 1.23" over avg so far) it has not been a wet year at all. There were a few times earlier in late spring/early summer where we got decent moisture, but most of the fell within a few huge storms. If you take those 2-4 big storms away, we are actually in a huge deficit.

Totally agree. Most of that rain also probably ran off too since the ground was already so dry. Despite all that rain this spring, we likely will be in moderate drought by the end of the month.

Yes, that is my point, most of it was runoff when you get 2-3" in just an hr or so. So ultimately it skews the record book, but people that like to garden or do yard work know better.

Just watched Bill's 14 day forecast. Just NOTHING for the foreseeable future. Just 80's and 70's, sunny, no rain, fire danger. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but this weather is "too perfect" for this time of year. Give me this weather in July and August and I'll be happy, but right now I'm looking for the first freeze, and it's nowhere in sight, nowhere in North America, really. I'm going on my camping trip next weekend and I'm still not sure where to go because I've checked literally everywhere within a days worth of driving, and there's nowhere cool and not in drought. Nowhere short of Canada.

I wanted to stay in Valentine, too warm. Trying to make Estes park work for me, but still warmer than I expect this time of year. My last thought is just going straight north up 29 close to the Canada border just to find some semblance of crisp air. If anybody knows of any secluded parks with or without fishing close to Canada on I-29, currently looking for suggestions.

Ha. I camped in Valentine back in August and it was 99 degrees the day we arrived. It was too warm, but that's when we could make it work.

Yeah, no way im going there. I last stayed there in April and it was 92. In April. Before then, I stayed there October 16th-19th and it was highs in the upper 60's and getting down to the teens. It was perfect camping weather in my book, and no fire ban. Sooo, I thought it was gonna be a pretty safe bet going a week into October. But nope highs in upper 70s with one day approaching 90. Lows in the lower 50s. I might as well camp in my backyard with those temps. Plus there's a fire ban.

Estes park isn't much better with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 40s. It just isn't cool anywhere. Last time I went up there it was highs in the upper 60s with lows into the 20s, and this was mid September. So yeah, pretty disappointed I waited for what I thought was going to be well into the cool season - far enough in I actually felt it was a bit risky to be *too* cold - for it to not even be remotely cool anywhere i can think of driving to in ~ 8 hours.

You know, actually after seeing how it felt here today, I think i could tolerate camping out in Valentine. It's supposed to be exactly like this for one day, and the rest of the time is supposed to be 70's.
