Ha - I agree. Although my LEGO expense account has been shut down for a bit...

I did submit an application for a PT position there through the LEGO site - I've worked several retail positions in the past and figured why not check it out. However, my availability is likely not what they'd like it to be. I didn't hear back from them about it.

At the same time, I think it may not be a good idea to work there, as I'd probably drop all of my PT income plus more. Plus, with my experience in retail I know how customers can be and working in a place that somewhat caters to kids, I'd probably want to pull my hair out (especially during the first few months of employment).

Right - yes, they've had a few different positions posted. I think a store manager was there at one time but it's gone now. Last I had checked it was PT manager, PT "brick specialist", stuff like that.

But if they're not opening until late Sept it's probably a little difficult to hire people 2 months ahead of that.

It would not shock me if this store does well to see a second Lego store in the market, with it being in Omaha. KC has three now, with the latest opening in their airport.

This may be a destination for me at some point. Being an adult male, it feels a little silly looking at Legos, but its fun to go back, makes you feel like a kid. There were some pretty cool sets I've seen online that I'd be more than happy to spend some money on if they have them there.

I wasn't a fan of Lego as a kid, but when they started making Ghostbusters Lego, I became a big (broke) fan.

Back when I was a kid, parents bought their kids basic Lego block sets that only included a few doors, windows, and wheels. Kids used their imagination and could create all sorts of things with them. Now Lego sells all these sets that are only good for building one or two things, and most kids just copy the picture on the box.

I find it sad that kids can’t use their imagination now days. When I was a kid, if we were playing with a police car or fire truck, we had to push them around on the floor and make the siren noises ourselves. Now everything has to be remote controlled with push button sounds. I probably sound like an old geezer to all you young whipper snappers who lay awake at night dreaming of skyscrapers, street cars, IKEA, and over priced coffee.

I find the idea of a Lego store being a destination comical. I used to walk a lot at an outdoor mall that had a Lego store, and they were never busy, and the majority of the people who went in the store left without purchasing a thing.

Last I checked, Target and Walmart sell a lot of Lego products, and if they don’t sell what you’re looking for, you can probably find it online and shipped directly to you in a day or two.

That's how it was for me as a kid - just a big bin full of assorted pieces. I pretty much stopped playing with them around age 8 as I graduated to making plastic model cars. Since then, Legos came up with all the Technic kits, and I rediscovered some of the satisfaction I got from them as a kid. They're sort of a challenge even as an adult, but not as involved as the actual scale model cars with the glue and the paint. I find it fun both to get a model car now and then, and a lego kit now and then. Just depends how technical I wanna get. Walmart has had some decent Legos kits. Yeah, of course you can always go online and have them shipped to you, but that's just wayyy too easy. Actually seeing them on a shelf and browsing for which one you're gonna build next puts some more excitement into it IMO. So in that way, by having a Lego store, you are going back in time. At least to before the time of infinite availability and instant gratification.

When I was a kid I was infatuated with legos. I always pronounced them LEEGOS. I had a suitcase sized aluminum box filled with all of the pieces. I even tried my hand at constructing the Empire State Building when I was probably 10 or 11 years old. I think I got up to 10 stories before I started running out of needed pieces.
Eventually by about age 12 I grew out of my Lego fixation. I see that some people did not.

The guy that invented the GIF image file format, Steve Wilhite, came out and said it was pronounced with a soft G like "jiff." That hasn't stopped a number of people who still fervently argue that it's pronounced with a hard G.

LEGO is like Apple of the toy world. Very rarely ever discounts anything (on their own; now other retailers do put them on sale on occasion) and they lure people into their stores for the experience.
