YES!

Based upon the searches I did, to cover 800 acres we could have a Disney park, an IKEA, and some stadiums to cover every major professional sport (baseball, football, basketball)... and probably still have a little space leftover.

I did find out that a Nascar track could take up to 1000-1500 acres... so I suppose if they double it to 1800 then we'd be looking at adding a paved raceway.

Obviously Rod Yates did well with the initial development there. They got a sweetheart deal from Gretna. Then wasn't he involved with Crossroads?

All of his GoodLife talk just seems so pie in the sky to me.

On Grow Omaha (live from NEX)they announced NEX has partnered with the BIG10 Conference will soon rebrand into BIG10 Crossings. They intend to focus on youth sports, olympic sports and professional sports. Yates stated they want to be "the Disneyland" of youth sports. They intend to build a Manchester City sports academy, a 400,000 SF Volleyball facility with between 100-150 courts, a 240,000 SF olympic volleyball facility and of course the would be billion dollar NHL facility. They also referenced building convention centers and hotels totaling 4500 rooms.

Watched the show and that is indeed the truth. Big Ten rebranding is apparently coming in the next month. Listening to Yates talk was quite something. He used the word “brand” so much, even saying they were going to “rebrand” Buffalo Creek in the area to “Heisman Creek”

Agree, it sounds like they have been working on all this for the past year, but just all seems so far fetched. When asked about any opening dates, he stated they are looking for the first brands to open in 2027 which would be more of the youth branded stuff to begin with.

This doesn't make sense - perhaps if there's a totally separate wing/location/center that targets that specific group, but to rename NEX Crossing to cater to youth sports seems odd and kinda dumb.

They're probably lucky LEGO opened when it did because if I were a national or worldwide recognized brand and wanted to expand into the Omaha area I don't think I'd pick a center named after youth sports (unless of course I was Nike, Reebok, etc).

I'm at a loss for words here - things like this make me wonder how some can accomplish so much, yet seem to have very obscure ideas. Elon Musk comes to mind - dude is quite smart, but does some really dumb things.

I like to give him credit for what he's been able to do with the redevelopment of that center, but just when you think there are a lot of positive things going on with it he goes and does something like this.

I'm actually shocked that the Big 10 and/or UNL would even want to be part of whatever it is he's trying to do. The way it's currently configured it doesn't really help them, either.

I hope this doesn't lead to brands exiting that place... could see it turning into the old outlets where it came down to a comic book store and some guy selling junk from his garage (of course that would take many years of decline... more of an exaggeration than anything, but if they're not careful you never know!). Giga Mega Saver here we come!

It sounds like Yates is just trying for a moonshot to become extremely successful. Probably talking and selling to anyone in a room that will listen and then taking even a exhausted sigh from a representative as confirmation to which he screams from the rooftops that he's made a deal.

He also said that Lego decided to open a store because of info from JustData (his startup that has had issues) that said that 90,000 of the users in their “fintech ecosystem” (another phrase he throws around a lot) have visited or purchased Legos online. The NEX LinkedIn page says they have 5.5 million visitors annually, so 90,000 would be less than 2% unless only the people who use the NEX app are being counted as part of the ecosystem?

Paradise will be opening in an end-cap with a drive-thru lane on the northwest corner of Nebraska Crossing. It was most recently occupied by B&G Tasty Foods. Most Paradise Bakery locations have been converted into Panera restaurants. The only remaining Paradise Bakery besides Omaha is in Dallas.

Didn't really do a good job explaining the Big 10 thing. Is it a partnership, sponsorship, what's the connection> Weird we haven't heard anything from the Big 10 on it.

Yeah, consistently not hearing anything from any of the many supposed partners continues to make me wary about anything he says. US Volleyball continues to be silent, now the Big 10, continued NHL shenanigans. heck, even LEGO was a hot and cold thing for a good long while.

He emphasized that reports suggesting otherwise are incorrect and confirmed there is no active expansion process.

I'm sure everybody is shocked that the NHL isn't interested in expanding to Gretna...

Yeah, I heard him say that in the Grow Omaha episode. But Olympic and professional sports (which he also said were a target here) are not recruiting from off-season youth sports tournaments.
