So either way, they are going to appear very similar in both size and total height.
I think where you view them from will make a big difference. Its simple geometry. From the 10th Street Bridge, Mutual will appear way taller, but from Abbott Drive or the Ballpark, they will look a lot closer.

So basically we are going to have our two tallest buildings will be of very similar height, with the exception of viewing from the east in which case Mutual will appear to be taller. But other locations they will look about the same more or less due to FNBO sitting on slightly higher ground. The Woodmen Tower sits on an elevation higher than both Mutual and FNBO. Thanks for the illustration Brad.
Nice illustration Brad..
And really, it’s no secret how the buildings will appear from different angles N-S-E-W etc in the skyline..
FNBO is 634FT, Mutual will be 677FT..
At the end of the day, Omaha will have two 600 plus footers and one of them brand new.. Most Peer cities of Omaha in the 1 to 1.5 million metropolitan population range would KILL to have that..
Omaha is winning…

So what we're really saying here is we need a 700+ footer.
It's what this building should have been all along!
No complaints here. I can’t think of another metro roughly our size that will have two 600 footers and one is new, very impressive for Omaha. Definitely hitting above its weight class.

I'm personally quite fond of skylines where two or more buildings dominate.
Think Minneapolis, Los Angeles, or Philidelphia. All of those cities have two or more tall buildings that are very similar, or even compete with each other in terms of height, and dominance.

I believe Mutual will have a more massive look to it than FNBO.

One notable comparison is Tulsa, Oklahoma, urban area population 723k. They have two 600 footers: BOK Tower at 667 ft, Cityplex Tower at 648 ft. But yes, Omaha stacks up quite well relative to similarly populated cities.
I compiled some interesting stats a few months back. I selected Omaha together with the five next largest cities and five next smallest cities. To define city size, I used "urban area".
To gauge the skyline, I selected the five tallest buildings in the city. This information is available at SKYDB.
Conclusion: Omaha is already pretty impressive compared to its peers. Only Honolulu (with its fancy condominiums) and Tulsa have a higher average height for their tallest buildings. Further, First National Bank Tower is the third tallest building within these eleven cities, behind the aforementioned BOK Tower and Cityplex Tower in Tulsa. The Mutual of Omaha building will take us to the next level!

That's basically the end of garage construction. In that video, the left half (GREEN) is the finished top floor of parking and the right half only goes up a little ways and then you can see a connection over the the core (RED).

Don’t let the street racers find out about this pristine patch of concrete. Oh, and I now know where this weekends rave is

Its funny you mention that, but I have noticed they have never connected the garage to the street, there are still gaps in the ramp between the first and the second floors.

Will the top floor be open to the elements or will the rooftop terrace in the renderings cover it? Will it be structural steel with a floor to walk on, or a concrete cap?
The building will have open air terraces. As I understand it was be terraced so the lowest floor above the garage open to the east with smaller ones on the couple floors above.
Wasn't quite sure where to put this but Omaha Fire recently did rescue training on site. There are numerous photos from the exercise as well as some additional photos of the site with angles and p.o.v.s I haven't seen anywhere else(including inside the core).

Based on the block outs in the wall, I believe the floor of 16 will be concrete. The first level of steel floor framing should be level 17.

So what are the differences between what you have circled vs the darker ones on the upper floors?

The floors above have embedded steel plates and connection tabs for steel beams. The floors below have plywood covering the connection for the concrete reinforcement.

So if the terrace is floor 16, and on top of the garage, is it considered a 16 story garage with 15 levels of parking? I remember hearing 15 or 16 stories, but the main consensus has been 13 or 14. Splitting hairs, I know, but just something I was thinkin about as I drove by today

Why are you making this so difficult. It's a 15 story garage. Do people at soma say they have a 4 story condo because they have a rooftop deck on their 3 story condo? No.

Because math. One is more than the other. It was said to be 14 floors, not 16. I only broke it down so that it was evident i knew the garage isn't 16 floors of parking, but is 16 floors.
Mainly because of past snarky comments by forumers trying to be smart |expletive| who want to have a "gotcha" moment

Perhaps I missed an important detail—but won't it take an awfully long time to drive a car up 15 levels of parking garage?

two min tops? But I doubt most people go all the way to 15 unless the garage is absolutely packed that day.

I wonder how many people will drive to the top on weekends, just for a great view, pics, etc. Ha ha!

Me! Lol. I think I have been to the top of every public garage downtown?

The A A YouTube guy must have been on vacation last week. Hope we get an update video tomorrow.
I'm surprised that the core hasn't risen in the last couple days. It's due for another raise according to the frequency of adding floors since mid-summer.
Although I realize that has nothing to do with your YT comment. Just an observation.
They poured the last floor yesterday afternoon and usually raise the forms 24 hours later. I'd expect that to begin later this afternoon but surely before the end of tomorrow.
