Ever since I laid my eyes on this building I thought "low budget". This building reminds me of the mid-century modern basic box library of Des Moines. Not to hit on Des Moines, we had an ugly central library too, we've both had good and not so good architecture like any other city.

What does this building say about art and a building that's made to inspire?




I have mixed feelings on the other hand I'm glad we are getting an expansion.

Omaha has great building projects coming our way, the Holland arts may just be one of those blip projects that honestly could be improved or maybe it was already improved, since those were prelimineray sketches.

I couldn't be happier than to be living in Omaha, which is in the state of Nebraska, as this partnership between state and city is going in the right direction. Just like the other states which are doing great due to them making similar policies.

America has to learn a tough lesson and many states are passing safeguard legislation to secure individual state sovereignty, while others are not doing so well.

Many things are being exposed and brought into the forefront, enjoy the show! We will be entering a prosperous period in a few months!

I think it is very important to draw the distinction, on how the relationship of the state and city impacts the overall result of the city.
Omaha owes the state of Nebraska for being stable, safe and prosperous.
You can't have the Omaha we know, without the stable government and the people of Nebraska

If in an alternate timeline, the Omaha in Illinois was the 1M metro, then Omaha would be just another East St Louis clone. Illinois is the 3rd most corrupt state.

Well those are some rose colored glasses if I ever saw them id say the state is very combative with Omaha on many issues. I cant think of any other state that says to a city you cant cross county boundaries (we want you hemmed in). Or for example suggest politically carving up a city's federal representation because they arent electing the people you prefer.

For comparison West Des Moines is in 4 counties and they function quite well.

Back on topic. I think the Holland addition really adds to the entertainment district as a whole. Lots of energy. I havent been inside the addition but its on my list. Id rather see the addition there than the bland grass that was there.

Of course renderings are general impressions vs how buildings materialize, but as an early skeptic of the gold elements in the rendering, I have to say this is turning out nicely. The "gold" is more of a muted bronze. All of the OPA buildings, while very different, blend in well with the area.

Today I got a sneak peak of the new Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement addition to the Dick & Mary Holland Campus.

Biggest Take Aways:
-Main entrance will be on the north side
-Event Hall is huge and can be isolated from the education areas
-Event Hall has access to the Holland Lobby and Douglas Street
-Construction will end in December 2025
-Facility will open March 2026
-Already Booking Classes, Camps, and Weddings.
