Awesome, that's great this project is moving forward! Sounding like we should see some good progress on this in the next six months.

Vertical construction should begin in a couple months.

Re: Des Moines - 33 story high rise proposal (515 Walnut Tower)
I was in Des Moines, this past week. I couldn't really take a picture of 515 walnut site from ground level, since there's not much to see because of the ground level barriers. The pictures from ZachJo are much better at this stage, from above.
Regardless, I was able to take a picture from MacRae Park (large hill park overlooking downtown)
I'm curious to know how the Des Moines skyline will look with the addition of the 515 Walnut tower from this angle.

You should be able to see it pretty clear from that vantage point since it’ll be mainly to the right of cluster high rises. It’ll have some good visuals from east village also

360' tall would make it our 4th tallest building. I wish we had something residential in the works

We do, as Brad had mentioned, we have several projects by NuStyle. The conversion of a 16 story building into over 700 apts, Also the Beam apts which will be 16 stories with another 261 apts. Just between these 2 that is nearly 1,000 apts. While each of these is only around the 200ft range, and I would love a 300-400 ft tower as well. The amount of apts from these two are nearly 2.5x, which adding more population to downtown Omaha is really important.thenewguy wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 3:18 pm 360' tall would make it our 4th tallest building. Don't forget the FNBO Main Bank building with 300, also by NuStyle.skinzfan23 wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 4:16 pmWe do, as Brad had mentioned, we have several projects by NuStyle. I get the disappointment that they aren't big, new construction towers. That said, the more old buildings fill up, the more there will be demand for new buildings, and bigger ones.

Yes, thank you, I knew that I was forgetting one. And that is another 300 apts in a almost 300 ft building. So altogether, 1,261 apts new in Downtown Omaha.Garrett wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 8:48 pmDon't forget the FNBO Main Bank building with 300, also by NuStyle.skinzfan23 wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 4:16 pmWe do, as Brad had mentioned, we have several projects by NuStyle. Should be a great addition to the Des Moines skyline. The city’s first new skyscraper in almost 30 years. After seeing robust growth in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.ewilliams27 wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 10:50 am Groundbreaking ceremony today, along with new renderings!

Construction of the tower crane has begun yesterday. Will be exciting to see the change to the skyline when this thing ramps up

Thanks for sharing!
Can one of the mods change the title of this thread (since it isn't really a "proposal" anymore)?

Re: Des Moines - 33 story high rise (515 Walnut Tower)
Wow, thanks for your upper view of the building site, its perfect!
Here are some of the ones I was able to get from ground level, two weeks ago when I was in Des Moines.

I just can't help but notice how nice these multi-tone and multi-texture side walks are in front of the construction site on Walnut St, with a nice fence decorative touch!

It's starting to come along! Have they said anything about when they expect it to start going vertical?

Is this tower residential or mixed-use?

Re: Des Moines - 33 story high rise (515 Walnut Tower)
This will be the first 300 footer in Des Moines since the late 90’s. I believe in the 1980’s they added four 300 footers, this included 801 Grand which is 600+ feet. An amazing high rise boom they had in the 80’s considering the metro’s size.

Re: Des Moines - 33 story high rise (515 Walnut Tower)
i hate to feel this way but i can’t help but feel a little bit green and spiteful when seeing des moines skyline haha, i just wish omaha (a metro nearly twice the size) could get a comparable skyline, at 1st glance des moines would look to be a larger city then omaha. although i know some of it has to do with the fact that omahas skyscrapers are taller than and we lack some of that middle high rise that des moines has so omahas tend to dwarf our other buildings in comparison even if the skyscrapers are taller, it lacks the look of as much density at 1st glance.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 6:33 pmThis is going to look great and a fantastic addition to the skyline…

Thanks for the update! It will be cool seeing it rise up from the position of the second photo. I'm really liking the facade that has gone in so far. It will certainly be a good look for DSM's skyline.ZachJo wrote: Mon Oct 20, 2025 6:47 pm A couple of recent pics from the guys over at urbandsm. As you can see the river photo it’s slowly becoming visible from different parts of the city. And the glass is gonna turn out good
