2025 Weather Thread

I'm in Panama City Beach Florida at this time. We're approaching 4 inches of snow here. Very historic weather event for this locale.

This was taken earlier, when it was still somewhat light outside.

I was in that area back in November. Wild to think that those beaches are being snowed on right now!

Super pretty snow last night around 9:45/10pm. Not the moisture we needed, but it sure looked nice coming down.

I was surprised to see that it had snowed, even though it was only a dusting. We could definitely use some snow or rain. Think our last significant precipitation was the mid December ice storm.

Great weather this week for the end of January. Possibly mid 50’s tomorrow. Some rain chances towards the end of the week.

I will take any moisture we can get. At this point in the season, I'd rather if it's going to start out the least snowiest season ever, that it stay that way. I'll take it in the form of rain. Looks like the NWS last I checked is forecasting about a third of an inch, which would be marvelous, given how deep in the hole we are. Rusty however painted a less liberal picture with only about a tenth, and it sounds like we're going to be right on the edge. So I'll hope for the best, but be prepared for a disappointment.

Rusty upped to a half inch. That would be quite acceptable given the current conditions.

The NWS now has us at .91", which would actually be quite a decent, actual rain. I hope it happens. The way both the NWS and local news has been trending up gives me more confidence.

I've been sick all week and didn't pay very close attention to the weather, but when I did look at the weather models last Tuesday, one was saying 2.5" and another was saying 0.0" with the rest falling in between. I have no clue how they decide which model they choose to base their forecast off, but at least one of them was correct.

It’s amazing that the winter season is 2/3 over and most of us have received no significant snow at all. I don’t think that any of us could have predicted us being in February with having less snow than Pensacola or New Orleans or Houston.

Amazing? I'd say concerning. If this dry spell continues, it'll have major ramifications on our ecology the rest of the year and beyond. Aside from drinking a gallon of water a day, running a humidifier 24/7 JUST to maintain 40%, and constantly reapplying lotion, petroleum jelly, etc, I guess the weather has been nice. I'm desperate for it to rain, and I mean rain. Not a cute little haha sprinkle once a month.

I wish we had a local Meteorologist that did nice YouTube videos like Mark Finan does for Northern California. Mark recently retired as the chief meteorologist at KCRA in Sacramento after 33 years on air! YouTube allows him to go way more in-depth on the forecast. Its really nice seeing the thought and science behind the forecast.

Here's Mark's video from today. If you are wondering why his face is all bandaged up, he's fighting skin cancer.

I will say jim flowers has had quite a few really informative fb posts for weather forecasting. However, I get the impression that followers have been critical and sometimes downright mean, so he has limited his posting over the last year. It's a shame, because he is really informative and pretty accurate

Just a very small amount of freezing rain/snow pellets today. The ice storm in mid December was much worse. This wasn’t much.

I thought it was interesting that they said it doesn’t show up on National Weather Service radar, because the precipitation was too low to the ground.

Freezing fog? Maybe. Within the past few days there's been enough moisture to saturate hard surfaces, but not anything falling from the sky, except today.

I had a honey bee in my garage last Sunday, so that unseasonably warm weather was messing with the bees. There's nothing for them to eat, right now, so that wouldn't explain why she was so interested in my open can of soda. I spoke with a guy that has apiaries and he says they've definitely been active on the warmer days.

Bees don’t hibernate over winter, they fly out of the hive to do their business when the weather warms up like it did. It’s totally normal behavior to make these cleansing flights!

That's nuts. Normally there wouldn't be a live insect in sight right now. At this very moment its supposed to be the depths of winter, and instead it's basically spring.

I just rarely see any insects at all in early February let alone a honey bee. Heck, I rarely see honey bees in the middle of summer. It was cool. The bee and I chit-chatted for a bit. It was sort of a one-sided conversation, but I'm sure she went back to the hive and told them I was a cool dude.

Flowers = 3.25"-3.5"
NWS Omaha = 57% Chance of 4" or More, 32% Chance of 6" or more.

Don't see where any of the other local meteorologists have a forecast out yet, if they do, they don't make it easy to find.

Models between now and Wednesday:
GFS = 2.2" Snow (rain equivalent of 0.2")
NAM = 4.1" Snow (rain equivalent of 0.4")
ECMWF = 4.7" Snow (rain equivalent of 0.5")
GDPS = 2.3" Snow (rain equivalent of 0.2")
RDPS = 2.1" Snow (rain equivalent of 0.2")
CMCE = 2.5" Snow (rain equivalent of 0.3")
