We went about 4-5 years ago, I need to go back but its on the exact opposite side of the metro from where I live. It was very good though.
I’m glad you finally went Cermak..

IMO it’s even better than Giordano’s- because it’s local :thumb: .. I bought a pie there a couple months back. Got 2 meals and a snack out of it. So filling…

Glad I went, another quality Pizza option for me in Omaha. And it's Chicago deep dish makes it all the better.

Pizza Davlo is very good.

It's been a while since I've had it; I must stop there again. Im usually defaulting to Mama's, Orsi's, or Mangia's, but I got to put that option into my rotation.

Before I move to New Mexico, that is

Well, we were in Des Moines yesterday for a last-minute run in that direction. We were in the area of Giordano's about 2 PM and hadn't eaten, so we decided to give it a try.

Had two small (10") deep-dish pizzas and some cheese bread. Plenty to take home that way.

The pizza was good, but I it did hit it out of the park by any means. It takes a long time to get it once ordered. About 45 Min. I guess they state that, but I am not really sure why it is as long as it was. The service we got was just OK. The place was about 1/2 full at that time of day on a Saturday, and there was plenty of staff, but by no means was there any urgency.

Took forever to get our check and even longer once they had my card to get it back to me to sign.

I'm glad I went, but it confirmed to me that I am not missing anything.

We will see how some it traveled and reheats tonight during the superbowl

I think that's just the norm for Deep Dish. We used to get it occasionally at a place in Tulsa named Savastano’s and they had a warning in their menu that it would take 45 minutes.

You can't make Chicago deep dish in a speed oven like Little Caesars. You're talking a lot of cheese & other ingredients. Also, you want it right out of the oven. #cheesepull

We reheated it in the air fryer for about 5 Min at the lowest temp setting we have 300 deg. It was right from the fridge to the air fryer. Reheated relatively well.

I’ve been to the one in West Des Moines several times. It’s never been very crowded when I’ve been there. Omaha Not missing much in my opinion. Decent Chicago style pizza but nothing fantastic.

As a Omahan' who lives in the Chicago area now - Giordanos is ok, but I find both their crust and sauce to be inferior to Lou Malnati's.... and there's better deep dish than Lou's too.

If you're ever up here, the best options are
Nancy's Pizza
Eduwardo's Natural Pizza
Lou's

There's of course 500 other options, but those are always good and safe.

We were at Lou Malnati's on Wells Street in 2023. I found the crust rather bland (it was my least favorite aspect of their pizza), but I've not had enough deep dish to know what it's suppose to be like. Overall, it was okay and I'm glad we tried it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to seek it out. I do hear that Chicagoans are backpedaling on their deep dish love and are now instead encouraging the tourists to try the tavern style.

Went to Chicago a couple times this summer. Stopped at Lou's downtown on our way to Soldier Field for a Premier League Double Header. I really liked it but still prefer Giordano's.

A couple others that are really good are :

Pequod's in Morton Grove
Papa Saverio's (I think they've grown to several locations)

I didn't know Pequod's had to the burbs! The location in Lincoln Park was a favorite of mine in college

Back when I was new to the Chicago area and had somewhat of a deep dish tolerance my friends and I would go to Bacino’s next to Oz Park. The fascination with Gio’s and Lou’s has always mystified me and that also includes their thinner crust offerings. Eventually I found a few places that had enjoyable enough pub style pies, but mostly I ate a lot of Papa John’s living in the Northwest Burbs. Sad, I know, but I guess after suffering through too many fossilized crusts(pub-style included) at least PJ’s wasn’t a threat to my dental vitality.

Here in Detroit they have Detroit style pizza. A lot of places have it here but Buddy's is the big one for it. Anyway, basically what it is is thick crust with a little sauce and some toppings, AND kind of burnt cheese around the sides. That's it. The burnt cheese is the big thing. I guess but I just can't get into it. Too much crust & not a lot of toppings. My local favorite pizza is Pizzapapalis.

In my youth I liked Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, and others. My deal now with Chicago deep dish is that I can barely put away one slice. Don't get me wrong. I like it a lot. I just can't eat like I used to.

My overall favorite pizza is still La Casa. I've tried to get a local place to duplicate it but they just can't get it right. I now make my own. I also like the fried ravs at La Casa.

I also used to like Lansky's. Cheese steak with the formaggio sauce on it. I hope they're still good. Their pizza was good as were their fried ravs.

Anyone like the Detroit Style Pizza at Backlot Pizza and Kitchen at the ACX Theater between Gretna and Elkhorn?

I think this pizza is under the radar, and I have really come to like it. My go-to is the Butcher’s Word.

Pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, roasted red pepper, red onion, red sauce

They have the signature burnt cheese on the edge, but it's nowhere near as over the top as some others with this style IMO.

Idk about that location, but my wife and I usually hit up the Aksarben Backlot every few months. It's a good and unique pizza.

I left ke both Omaha area Backlot locations. La Casa was and always will be my first love when it comes to pizza though.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

Both places (especially La Casa) for the win..

As a side note, on the fried ravioli front, Cascio’s, (the last TRUE Italian Omaha steakhouse left, sadly) has amazing fried ravioli…

Yes, I really like Backlot a lot. They also are a partner in Site 1 Brewing and serve Backlot there too.

Both Izzy's and Backlot are good, but Backlot in Aksarben is a lot closer so that's where I go.

Looks like they are putting a large Giordano's in Mall of America. They do have other locations in Minneapolis as well.
