Density Fun

So thanks to Ray Delahanty / CityNerd I found this fun site:

And I thought: Let's do another spin on why Omaha is ready for great things.

These are population estimates 5km around a specific point. I tried to be fair and not count over rivers, based roughly on downtown. I think this very relevant in the tram conversation too:

We'll do this worst to best for "regional peers".

I tried somewhat to find the densest areas, but Omaha seems to really knock it out of the park.

Pretty cool website and fun to mess around on, just an FYI though but it looks like all of your maps other than Omaha are only on 3 km. When I run Minneapolis it ends up closer 250k, Lincoln around 150k, etc.

Yeah I got the same results as well. Omaha still ends up better than everything except Minneapolis though.

Super weird. The slider at the top is saying 5 but I guess it didn't update something correctly.

That makes a ton of sense. I had a hard time believing Omaha was ahead of Minneapolis. But now it makes sense.
