Curious what everyone has as some of their favorite buildings.

One of mine is the Brooklyn Tower. 1,067 ft tall and 93 stories, Neo-Art Deco style, and the exterior is made of stone, bronze, and blackened stainless steel that gets darker the higher it is. This is one I love seeing in person because of the contrast it has with the rest of the Brooklyn skyline. It looks like a castle, but hexagon shaped and a super tall.

The Book Tower in Detroit.

Its a perfect representation of a city in Renaissance, followed by absolute neglect, decline, abandonment, and eventual revival. Such a beautiful building. One time I went to Detroit, it looked like the very representation of when you think of "Detroit". It was just in absolute pizz poor shape and abandoned. That was when the Lions went 0-16 too, right around the great recession, housing market crash, and all the auto bailouts, which obviously that city is highly influenced by the auto manufacturers. It was a gutted city. Can't imagine having a big old tower like that just looming, completely abandoned, basically rubbing it in. Also it looked like a giant haunted mansion, which I thought was really cool. And im sure there was a whole lotta bad activity going on there at its lowest point. Also really wouldn't have wanted to be a poor fella to use that 38 story fire escape, which is also iconic.

I hear they reallllllllly cleaned it up and restored it to its former glory. I just really like the look of it, as well as the story of it.

I also love Union Station in KC. One more in KC for me is the Power and Light Building.

Chicago has some great buildings. Standouts for me are the Wrigley Building and the Marina City twin towers.

For Omaha, I am going with a homer pick. Central. I absolutely love that building inside and out. Full disclosure I am an alumni. If anyone ever wants a behind the scenes tour including where the tunnels reach the school that lead downtown, DM me. They do tours once or twice a year for alumni. It's historical and you even seen where they did things in the 1800's.

For Detroit I love the old Michigan Central Station that Ford is remodeling for their HQ. I was afraid it was destined for demolition.

Yes Michigan Central is cool. It's not Ford's headquarters. The headquarters is still on their campus in Dearborn. Michigan Central is mainly for their mobility effort. They are also leasing out part of it, making part of it available for events and possibly a hotel, maybe more. It's huge.

As for my favorite buildings, in Detroit there are lots downtown, including the Guardian Building.

In Omaha, the Blackstone has always been a favorite. Sadly a lot of my favorite downtown Omaha buildings are gone.

In Des Moines I like the 801 Grand Building and the EMC Tower (One side looks like it has a vodka bottle built into it)

As for KC I like the Plaza. Very cool.

I was in New York recently. There are so many wonderful buildings there, both in Manhattan and elsewhere.

Miami has it's own vibe.

For Omaha, I'd have to go with the Blackstone too, if we're aiming for the big and historic route. There are a few others that are also up there with it, but if I had to choose one.

But that is really a shame, I can think of at least a few that are no longer around that I might have chosen instead.

I'm also drawn to the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco. Columbus Tower (also pictured in green) is a favorite as well:



In Omaha it would probably be the Omaha Building:

Also, the Ambassador and Elwood Apartments at 49th & Dodge.

Pretty much any of the buildings and houses within a block or two of Park Avenue are considerably the best collection of buildings in Omaha.

As ugly a reputation Park Ave had, its great to see those apartments and houses restored, and positive activity return to the area.

Probably one of the most overlooked buildings in the city. It's a beautiful art deco building that should get more attention.
