I don’t know how else to say it but you need to go to a Kwik Star and see the difference. QT is definitely better then Casey’s but still not amazing for a convenience store.

Actually, according to the American Satisfaction Customer Index, "Kwik Trip/Kwik Star", is comparable to Casey's based on the lower ranking of best convenience stores of 2024. Number 1 is actually Wawa followed by number 2 QuikTrip and they both have earned it, since both QuikTrip and Wawa look upscale and modern.

Before this thread, I actually didn't know that "Kwik Trip" was a thing because I was only familiar with Kwik Star. I may have gone to Kwik Star a few times when going to Des Moines, but I didn't put much attention to the brand, as the convenience store blends with other typical stores like the "Pump & Pantry" gabled roof stores in western Nebraska. Their logo and overall design, doesn't really catch my attention and that's why I only visit QuikTrip when going to Des Moines.

Interestingly enough, my first QT store that I visited was in Des Moines, in the same land that Kwik Star existed, however QT design language was eye-catchy, with thick brick columns and concrete moldings, and was memorable over stores that reminded me of the gabled roof house-like stores like Pump & Pantry.

It is obvious that QT has a team of graphic designers because everything is consistent in design language. QuikTrip by far is one of the most legible convenience store logos from very far away and the QT shorthand logo is clever too. From the stainless steel like shiny panels of the outside and inside to the premium looking signage, QuikTrip speaks a single sleek modern unified language. Instead of having an identity design crisis of looking like a house and a "modern" convenience store.

Even when it comes to revenue, QuikTrip rakes in 19.6 billion vs Kwik Trip's 7.4 billion.

I am not surprised on the revenue, as I tend to spend much more on QuikTrip on each trip than any other gas station because there are more healthy selections and not just junk food, with other gas stations, which I tend to leave with less items or none at all.

Now the "Kwik Trip/Kwik Star" brand has to contend a fractured brand, since the company Kwik Trip, did not take into account that QuikTrip is an older company established first and now they have to change their name to Kwik Star, otherwise they infringe on the QuikTrip brand and they will get sued like they have in the past.

I wouldn't mind QuikTrip opening a non-gas station in the Omaha urban area, like this one in Atlanta; a nice design that blends in with the urban environment, even then the gas station version fits so well in urban and suburban environments.




Now if the company Kwik Star wants to open one somewhere in west omaha, it would be fine; as it wouldn't look out of place over there but it would sure look out of place in the Omaha urban core.

Kwik Star are good for those pastries and bread aficionados but those of us that want our custom ordered ingredient healthy sandwiches and wraps (ordered from the smooth QT touchscreens), as well as the large selection of sweet and unsweet teas will go to QuikTrip because the typical gas station has an emphasis on unhealthy foods.

If it's one thing about Wawa, QuikTrip and Kwik Star have in common, is that they are testaments of how private family owned companies can be better than public owned companies, all three companies are known to have high marks from their employees.

I have to give it to our sister city Tulsa, they created a very successful company (QT), that looks upscale, premium and that has now spread into so many states.

They're right up there with QT, only problem is that they've acquired mom/pop single stores and truck stops, and their look/feel varies once you get out of OKC. For example, the one on I-35 in Billings looks nothing like those in Moore and Norman.

Yeah the ones down in Moore and Norman are huge. I think there's some of that size up by Edmond too. We don't have anything around here on their scale. I stop at those quite a bit as I have in-laws near Norman in Newcastle, which is near Norman.

I was in the Kum & Go near 168th & Cornhusker Rd the other day and all of their Kum & Go branded merchandise (koozies, t-shirts, tumblers, etc.) was on tables by the register and clearance priced. So, it seems the rebranding is imminent.

Once reopened, they’ll be run by the same team members and include “a similar rewards program.” Maverik had previously said that once each rebrand occurs, customers will no longer be able to use Kum & Go’s rewards points at that location, nor will those points transfer to Maverik’s Adventure Club loyalty program.

I drove on the Will Rogers Oklahoma Turnpike earlier this month, at the Vinita exit (the one with the bridge crossing the interstate) and noticed that the rest area c-store is now Maverik. That sponsorship costs a pretty penny.

I wonder if they are having problems rebranding some of the Kum & Go because they are so different. If they don't make they have the look and feel of a Maverik, there is no point in rebranding them.

I have been to 4 of the 5 Maverik locations in Nebraska. I didn't realize they opened one in Big Springs, NE.

Received an email over the weekend to be sure to use all of your Kum&Go rewards and that those with rewards are automatically signed up for the Maverik program.

The Maverik at 72nd and Pacific has the Maverik gas pumps and inside has the Maverik photography and food and people are wearing the Maverik uniforms but the building sign still says kum and go.

Also, I used the Maverik rewards app and my burrito was free.

The Kum & Go at 108th & Giles still has Kum & Go on their pole sign and building, but all of the gas pumps are labeled Maverick.

Kum & Go at 72nd and Blondo has a sign posted that their kitchen will close June 15 and the store will close June 17. Nothing has been labeled as Maverik yet, however I saw an employee I had never seen before wearing a Maverik shirt last week or so.

Grow Omaha reported last week that Mega Saver purchased 4 locations.

Most Kum & Go gas stations are converting to Maverik, but not all of them. Omaha-based Mega Saver has completed the acquisition of three Kum & Go locations at 144th & Q Street, 192nd & West Center Road and 168th & Cornhusker Road. Utah-based Maverik purchased Iowa-based Kum & Go for approximately $2 billion in 2023.

All of the employees at K&Gs in Sioux City are wearing Maverik shirts and many of the branded items now say Maverik, but other than that, they're unchanged so far.

Yeah, it was so nice that I saw an employee from Casey's next door in there buying stuff.

haha, that is great. I have said it for a long time (and Maverik is an upgrade over Kum and Go) but Kwik Star are on a whole other level. They actually pay pretty well too, which is why the workers actually like their jobs. Their layout is really good and they carry a ton of fresh produce and bakery items that no other gas stations do.

We can only hope to get some in the Omaha metro soon.

I have noticed in several of the Omaha Maverik Locations a photo labeled "Valentine" and its just a row of trees. I have long thought its an odd photo to include with all the really cool photos I have seen in the Omaha locations (Fort Robinson, Toadstool, Chadron, and Smith Falls). I have taken my 8 year old to Valentine the past 3 years and have pointed out the photo to him and said "I don't know where that is". I tell him I have been to all the other locations and know where they were taken from. 3 weeks ago, we were up in Valentine and leaving town heading east on Highway 12 (Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway) and I look off to the north and see a row of trees and say to my son "Look at those trees" and without hesitation he says "Its the picture from Maverik".

Nothing wrong with the photo, but its definitely not the photo I would have chosen to represent Valentine or the Niobrara River/Sandhills.
