Omaha Maverick Basketball 2025-2026

Post by omaha79 »

Figured I'd start a thread as I don't see one.

1-3, but got the win at home against Southern Utah. Now begins a mix of P5 and NAIA teams. It will be interesting to see how this team gels going into conference play in January.

They need to work on turnovers, rebounding, and just creating consistent shot opportunities. Having been to 2 of the 4 games, they'll have a hot streak of 10 straight then give up 12 straight because they can't play defense. they are missing Isaac Owakande greatly. Size will be an issue if he cannot get back to game readiness. And, finding the right cohesion of the 5 on the floor at any time is a struggle.

But, there are signs they may be ok in the Summit.

I need to get to some UNO basketball games this year. I have hockey season tickets, hopefully they run some specials that work with my schedule.

They gave away championship rings to the first 1000 fans on Saturday night. I’m sure they are just metal spray painted gold with some glass chips shoved in them, but they still look really cool. Fun promotion for sure.

I got one and they are nicer than ones that I've received at MLB and MILB games.

What they've gone through this year has been a test for any squad. Losing Deng in that tragic August accident, the ensuing roster shuffle bring Paul Djobet in but him not being eligible until late December, losing Isaac for the season in roughly game 3, and a players girlfriend dying in a tragic automobile accident recently.

They've had a mountain of injuries along the way. the same lineup has rarely been available until recently.

This could have completely broken this team, but they are still battling. I firmly believe that this can be a tough squad to beat in Sioux Falls.
