Nordstrom Rack is indeed coming to Omaha, but not to NEX as long rumored: instead it's going to Village Pointe, and opening in fall 2024. Press release says it will be a 30,000 square foot store.

Wow, that's quite the get. Some info on where in VP it will be located would be helpful.
Pretty sure it is the spot where Bed Bath and Beyond was.
I was wondering the same thing - where were they compiling 30,000 sq ft? I imagine that makes sense. I'd ask what about the parking lot... is it large enough to accommodate a store like this but VP's parking situation has NEVER been good or well-planned so I suppose it doesn't matter.
Before you get all excited, there is a huge difference between a Nordstrom and a Nordstrom Rack, at least in my experience. There are both in Troy, an affluent suburb here in Detroit. The Nordstrom looks like an upscale store. Down the road about 4 miles is a Nordstrom Rack. I can only describe it like this:
Think TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Not exactly impressive. Don't get me wrong, the prices are great. But the experience is definitely outlet mall or less.
The Nordstrom is in a huge mall called Somerset Collectionwith Macys, Saks, Neiman Marcus and tons of other stores. The Rack store is in a strip mall with Petsmart, Aquatots and the like.

I worked for Nordstrom Credit about 20 years ago, and up to a point your description is accurate. Nordstrom Rack is what they call an “off-price department store” and in that way it competes against TJ Maxx. However Nordstrom Rack is usually a nicer and more organized version of the concept, and they do get some of their merchandise right from the Nordstrom stores.
At least it used to be, I haven’t been in one in a long time.
Still a good catch for Omaha, as most metros Omaha’s size and a little smaller already have a Nordstrom Rack. Des Moines and Madison Wisconsin both have had one for several years. Should help foot traffic at VP. Will still need to drive to KC if you want to go to Nordstrom department store. Omaha still probably a little to small for a Nordstrom department store.
Nordstrom Rack is a great get for Omaha. Most Nordstrom Rack stores carry some decent name brands and the one in Midtown Manhattan axtually has designer brands (Off-White, Gucci, Fendi, Bottega, Louis Vuitton). Nordstrom has levels too. The ones Salt Lake City were really bland in terms of clothing and shoe selection, though they had the all of the offerings for makeup and sunglasses. Some have more popular brands of clothing and shoes and home goods, and then some have designer goods.
Both brands have a FANTASTIC return policy though and it looks like Nordstrom returns can be done at Rack locations.
At the 30,000-square-foot store, "customers will be able to take advantage of our convenient services such as online order pick up from both Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, and they can make returns easily," Lionello said.

Being able to return items from Nordstrom.com I imagine will be popular.

Good get. I am sure NEX/Yates Co. would of loved this, but for a discount store, I am sure moving into an existing space makes much more sense.
Yates & Co mentioned Nordstrom as a target, though I'm sure they'd have been happy with Rack as well being another new to the market retailer. While I think V.P. is an obvious choice form Nordstrom Rack I sense Yates is in a bit of a pissing match with his former partner going for not just Nordstrom but more premium retail in general with an expanded NeX as a "district" including high rises and a "gourmet" grocer. To me, Crossroads(or even Westroads)makes much more sense for a potential Nordstrom. Should the V.P. Rack perform well I could see a second location being a good fit at NeX.

If you go to their new store openings on their webpage, the only new stores Nordstrom is opening are the Racks. This goes through 2025. The Village Pointe store wasn't even listed on their so it seems like VP management did some good work on getting this addition. Impressive and might be the only Nordstroms of any kind for the area for quite some time.

Yes, I agree an actual Nordstrom wouldn't be anything to expect in the near future but possibly down the road. I would also think a second Rack in a few years isn't unreasonable.

I am not sure I expect a actual Nordstrom at all considering there doesn't seem to be a single one on the horizon for 3 years. Just doesn't seem to be a direction they are heading in. We may get a second rack eventually but for the time being, VP has the exclusive.
VP has been impressive how well they fill any vacancies.

Omaha already has a Nordstrom’s; it’s called Von Maur. Nordstrom’s just has a bigger shoe department.
Agree, if we got a Nordstrom’s which I don’t expect, Von Maur would close.
7 miles apart in Kansas City. In the Detroit area in one case the Von Maur is about 9 miles from a Nordstroms and in another they are about 10 miles apart. I guess they can compete with each other.

I don't think Von Maur is in the tier of Nordstrom. Maybe the tier of Nordstrom that would initially open in Omaha. But eventually, that Nordstrom would be elevated to carry a level designer brands and streetwear brands for clothing, shoes, and bags that Von Maur doesn't offer anywhere. And it would initially offer make-up and home goods brands that are above a Von Maur.

Agreed. Just from a cache standpoint, Von Maur is not on the same level as Nordstrom.

Yeah. Von Maur is not even close to Nordstrom level. Von Maur is kind of nice to have, though. I grab something there from time to time.

Unlike Nordstrom, Von Maur continues to still open full service department stores. I am not sure I know of a healthier and still expanding department store nation wide. They also have a second concept. Called Dry Goods. It' seems to be doing well too.
I stumbled across this article, is there any other information on this? I'm curious what they'd do with that land if there's intentions for a project and if it'll stark anything in the area.

Hopefully something good!
Kind of a tough spot for retail - too far away from the main VP shopping area, at least IMO. I would guess 99% of the ppl that shop at VP won't want to walk down to the corner where Walgreens is.

Per grow Omaha, car dealership and car wash.
Perfect... ANOTHER car wash. Because the Rocket (or is it Tommy's) at 180th & Dodge isn't close enough.

Property Is owned by H+H So I assume the car wash will be their "Shine Shop"
Any idea on which brand they’d put there? I miss the days when L St had all the dealerships (just a figure of speech). Being able to shop along one road on the same day made things so convenient. Although this will be relatively close to the shops on Dodge St, it’s still off the “path”.
The Nordstrom Rack is moving along nicely for the fall opening. Looks like the HVAC is complete and they are working on the ceiling light grid. Cash wrap is installed by the front windows.
