Why does that turf in Vegas look so bad? It’s like they just unrolled it right before the game and didn’t stretch it or anything. At first I thought some of it was an optical illusion but you can see on some of the low camera angles there are wrinkles in it.

Yeah, apparently they use natural grass for Raiders games…but this looks like they rolled out carpet over sand volleyball courts.

Game's over. Nebraska lost 44-22. Stagburn it! At least, they were able to get a touchdown and a 2-point conversion at the end.

I think the only reason they kept playing was cause with a touchdown and 2-points, that would have made it a push. Thats something to play for haha. Bet there were quite a few bettors holding their breath for a moment.

It was certainly an odd pairing. One team unranked and 7-5, the other #15 ranked and a ten win season. Throw in that the worse team was operating with the second string QB and RB, and it was pretty much a guaranteed loss.

Is anyone here besides myself old enough to recall when Head Coach Frank Solich was unceremoniously Shittcanned after “only” winning 9 games, by the then AD, who feared that the football program had drifted toward mediocrity?
And is anyone on here young enough to likely see UNL return to consistently winning 9 games in one season?

Absolutely. I am sure Nebraska was more attractive than many other teams in that spot because the bowl knew that our fans would travel and spend at the top of the market. Money-wise for Vegas, it was a great match up. Game-wise, not so much.

I do remember the mid 1990's dominance. I also remember when Nebraska went for the 2-point conversion vs. Miami and failed in the 1984 Orange Bowl (1983 season). I still believe it was the right call to go for two, and remember thinking if that 1983 Nebraska team didn't win the national championship, Nebraska will never win it again. Well, I was wrong three times in the 1990s haha!

If there were 2 games I could change from Nebraska's 1983 season, it would be Oklahoma State and the Orange Bowl against Miami.

Oklahoma State–Instead of struggling against the Cowboys and barely winning 14-10, Nebraska easily dominates like they do against their other opponents that season and wins 64-10.
Orange Bowl/Miami–It still comes down to a 31-30 score. Nebraska still goes for 2. Turner Gill still throws a pass intended for Jeff Smith. But it's still knocked away by Miami defender Kenny Calhoun. But instead of Calhoun knocking the ball away, he accidentally bobbles it in the air and it lands in the hands of either Irving Fryar or Doug DuBose. So the conversion is good. Nebraska takes the lead 32-31. All they have to do now is stop Miami on defense and they do. So Nebraska wins the national championship. Not quite the way Tom Osborne wanted it, but nevertheless he's still glad to have won it.

GOOD GOLLY. I didn't watch the game between Indiana and Oregon, but I was silently rooting for Indiana... 56-22. Have mercy.

Now, given that Miami is in the title game for the first time since 2002 when they beat the good ol boys, I have to root for Indiana. I hope they do it good and thorough.

Indiana: The whole team is a great story. Mendoza is easy to root for.

Miami: Miami hasn't been elite since the early 2000s. If Miami can rise again, so can Nebraska!

I almost went that route, but given the storied bowl history between they and us, F em' lol. I'm very surprised Miami pulled this rabbit out of the hat. At the current moment we can only dream of doing what Miami is doing right now. They have to be having a lot of fun with it, so I hope Indiana crushes them, 70-10. Indiana paid their dues. On the other hand, I really don't care. I'll say this playoff season has been more competitive than many in years past.

So Raiola ends up at Oregon. Based on the photo, it looks like they just decided to amputate his injured leg. That should bode well for the Huskers when they travel to Oregon next season.

I'd say it's hard to believe it's been 30 years but it definitely is starting to feel that way considering how poorly they've performed over the last 2 decades.

Still amazing to watch when they dominated and reading that article was a great reminder of how powerful Nebraska was in '95 (or the 90's in general). I'm glad I was able to live to see those days because IMO it's extremely unlikely that Nebraska will return to that kind of greatness. As things are now, we can't even beat a top 10 team (maybe even top 25).

Oregon ended up 4-8 that season too. Can probably count on one hand how many times they beat a top 25 team, or a team ranked above them, and it actually carried implications. Makes you appreciate those Taylor Martinez years a little more. 2010 they were only 13 combined points away from being undefeated, big 12 champions, and most likely a National title appearance that year. Oh so close.

On a side note, Texas A&M receiver who caught the winning touchdown last night in there win over Notre Dame was former husker tight end Nate Boerkircher.

Boerkircher seems to have been a surprise second round TE selection by Jacksonville.

I noticed that, too. Congratulations, Nate! He was the third tight end selected in this year's draft. Did Nebraska's coaches completely fail to develop him as an offensive threat for the Huskers? I'm afraid that answer is "yes."

Also, Emmett Johnson just became a 5th round selection for the Chiefs. Congratulations, Emmett!

It will definitely be interesting to see how the Jaguars use him in the NFL. I wouldn't expect them to pick him in the second round if they envision him as a blocking-only TE.
