Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
I haven't patronized Taco Bell in quite a while. I had it once maybe a year ago, then before that, not since 2020 or so. I really liked the $5 Nacho fries boxes they had. Now those were worth it. But last time I got TB, think I got a bean burrito, a dorito taco, and a chalupa. I blindly ordered those items without really looking at the price, as I was used to that order being maybe $7(?), but was shocked the total was $11. It was the same old TB that you expect, not very good, but somehow when it was cheap, it tasted better. I ate that meal and was just disappointed. It wasn't good. The price just made it no fun to eat. Might as well have shed a tear thinking about how much each bite cost, rather than enjoying it. On the plus side, they gave me two giant fistfulls of Diablo sauce. Probably 30 packets or more, so I guess thats where I got my money's worth.
I see all their commercials lately. Some of the stuff sounds kinda good. But not so much when I know it's the same quality as ever, but the prices are double.

Taco Bell is definitely a place its better to use the app. Not only do you earn rewards but they have deals as well. I know that I get a crunchwrap, nacho, and burrito with drink for less than $6, which if you ordered at the restaurant it would be easily $10-12.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
Is that a special meal deal in the app? Because whenever I piece stuff together it's not any less expensive than buying at the drive thru. I know they have the $5/$7/$9 thing, but IMO none of those are that great (nor do they cater to what I would usually want to order).skinzfan23 wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 1:29 pm Taco Bell is definitely a place its better to use the app. Not only do you earn rewards but they have deals as well. yes, its one of the online exclusives. Its called build your own Luxe Cravings box. Depending on the store, but price at 108th and Harrison store is $5.79 before tax. They have had it for at least the last 4-5 years, the only change is instead of $5 its a little more now, but you choose a specialty, taco or burrito, side and drink. The crunchwrap alone is $5.79 if you bought it by itself.

Cool - will need to check it out. That's actually the closest one to my work if I ever pick it up for lunch.skinzfan23 wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 1:57 pm yes, its one of the online exclusives. I put in my last order to make sure i wasn't missing out, it was essentially the same price in the app as it was in the drive thru (+/- whatever a year does to prices). I don't go there anywhere near often enough to accrue enough points to make it worth it anyway.djc311 wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 1:51 pmIs that a special meal deal in the app? Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
I saw on The Grow Omaha website that Drew Brees'-backed "Small Sliders" chain is supposedly looking for real estate in Omaha and Lincoln to build a total of 4 stores. This is the chain that Rod Yates said was going to plop down at NEX, right?
Hard for me to get excited about another burger chain... even if they focus on small burgers. Maybe they're amazing - I've never had them. And I'm sure they're 10 stars above Burger Detour (although that place likely bombed due to ownership more than anything).

At the 5min mark in this video, they go to Runza. They have a bunch of Runzas I have never heard of? Do they always have all these?

I have heard of all of them. Some are limited-time offers. I have never seen them all at once, so I assume that they broke out all the stops for this video.Brad wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:52 pm At the 5min mark in this video, they go to Runza. I do go to Runza on a fairly reg bases because they are one of the few places that still have a decent salad that works for me for lunch

The Mini Taco Salad has been released, but is currently only available to Rewards members:ChadJK wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 9:30 am I hear they're getting the Taco Salad back for a limited time too. I'm not sure when that starts (probably when the Quesarito is removed). It's supposed to be a mini version of the Taco Salad. The original was made by frying a 10" tortilla to make the shell, so I presume the new one will be made by frying a 6" tortilla to make the shell (the same tortilla they use for the fried shell on the Mexican Pizza). This is all pure speculation though.

Taco John's invented "Taco Tuesday" and they used to legally enforce it (bars and whatnot would get legal letters asking them to cease and desist the use of the phrase "Taco Tuesday"). Taco Bell sued in 2023 to have Taco John's federal trademark of the phrase revoked and won. So, now anyone can use it. However, most of the large Mexican fast food chains had already worked around having "Taco Tuesdays."djc311 wrote: Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:34 am Is it just me that finds it weird that a Mexican restaurant isn't offering a special on tacos on Tuesday?

Does Abelardo's still. Back in the day they had a killer taco Tuesday deal. ANY taco, $1. I doubt they still have a Tuesday special, but if they do, theres no way its that good. All their tacos are now like $4 a piece

Abelardos used to be such a solid deal for a pretty good burrito. It doesn't seem that long ago that it was 6.95 for a burrito and now it's what...like $12?
Their steak and egg burrito was a great hangover cure 10 years ago.

Back when one of their only locations was 90th & Maplewood, which was maybe 15 years ago, the two carne asada burrito combo was $8.99. Now a carne asada burrito on its own is $12.49. They used to be so clutch because they were GOOD and cheap. Now they're honestly kinda meh, and expensive.Stan wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 9:09 am Abelardos used to be such a solid deal for a pretty good burrito. I used to be there every week, but now they have more locations than ever, I haven't been there in 6 months. The carne asada burrito meal was the bomb, and so was the $1 carne asada taco Tuesday. Now I try to stretch it over two meals to make it feel worth it.
I really wish I didn't feel that way, because back in the day I'd have fought to the grave for Abelardo's. Every now and then I'll try and recapture the magic, but its just not that good, as it used to be, and hearing the total charge puts a grimace on my face. Once or twice a year is about all I do anymore.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
I was just down there on Saddle Creek today, and that place always smells up the whole surrounding area, in a good way. Somehow I've never had it. I guess Abelardo's was the standard of authentic fast food mexican, for me, and the one time I tried something else, I was just completely disappointed. So I never felt like branching. I almost did it today but as per usual every time i'm down there, they're busier than a mother.
Ill have try and line up on a Tuesday when they may not be so busy.

At least the Bakers near me has been carrying these more authentic tortillas lately that are quite similar to Abelardos once you toast them in a hot pan. It's forced me to make some really good burritos at home.Busguy2010 wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 2:21 amBack when one of their only locations was 90th & Maplewood, which was maybe 15 years ago, the two carne asada burrito combo was $8.99. That charred tortilla really is a difference maker. I know you can get it toasted at T Bell, but the tortilla itself is different from Abelardo's. I'm starting to think it might be about time I have that semi annual trip.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
Yes, I realize this is sort of off topic, (but that seldom stops me):
A local family runs a tamale truck in a park just 2 blocks from our home in PV, 6 evenings per week from 6 pm until they run out. Five versions of tamales, rolled in banana leaves, for $30 pesos apiece. With the current crappy exchange rate it’s about US$1.75 each. Two tamales will more than fill you up. “Taco Tuesdays” is only a thing at tourist restaurants as it translates to Taco Miércoles and that doesn’t have much of a ring to it.
There are two or three BK “restaurants” and about as many each of McDonald’s, Church’s Chicken, Subway, Carl’s Jr. and KFC places in the city of close to 350,000. Most are located in tourist neighborhoods, but some younger native friends enjoy dining at these places on occasion, as it is a bit “exotic” compared to every place else they are used to frequenting. I don’t understand it because prices are just as expensive as in the US. There are quite a few Little Caesar, Dominoes and Pizza Hut outlets, and I’m told that the pizzas are actually pretty good compared with the versions sold at their outlets in the US. Probably 99% of the food sold at these pizza places is delivered to customers, and always via motorbikes. Food delivery services are very popular, though we never use them, either in Omaha or in Mexico.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread (Subway)
I just received an email from Subway stating they're discontinuing their "fourth footlong sub free" promotion on 4/1/26. I literally have eaten Subway once in the past 12 months and it sucked... BAD.
I'm surprised this cost them money, because I am not aware of anybody in our circle that loves Subway. But if they're dropping it already, it's usually due to it costing them tons in profit, but because it's considered a great success.

Subway is a case of a chain, that if they hired better people who actually care, it might make a difference. But then again, probably not....everything there tastes super processed and its sloppy as well.

I couldn't remember if Subway was still owned by Doctor's Associates - but they are not. Looks like they sold off in 2024. I would have to say the new ownership has only made things worse. As I've said before, the one nearest my work at 108th & L St looks like it should be located in the hotel they're going to tear down. It's a total |expletive| hole with faded menus hanging up, discolored wallpaper and portable AC units inside for climate control. You couldn't pay me to go back in there.skinzfan23 wrote: Wed Feb 18, 2026 1:27 pmMy kids always want to go there. I would get their 6" meatball prob once a week or every other week in high school and in my college years. So yeah, probably about 25-30 years ago. That's a long time for them to go down hill. But it's extremely bad now... way worse than I would think it could be while still remaining open for business.ChadJK wrote: Wed Feb 18, 2026 2:32 pm There was a time, like 30 years ago, when a 6-inch Meatball Sub from Subway was a delicious meal for me.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread (Culver's)
Has anyone tried the walleye at Culver's. It certainly feels like a step above the standard fish they serve at fast food chains during Lent. Culver's basic fish seems to be Cod too instead of the cheaper Pollock many places serve.

The walleye at Culver's is very good! I like both the dinner and the sandwich.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
I saw last night on the McDonalds app that some locations are already selling their new Big Arch burger. We tend to use the app quite a lot since it usually offers coupons/discounts so I hope to try this one soon.
