Rumors of paradise bakery & cafe coming to Nebraska Crossing!

I'm cool with this. It's certainly better than a Panera. I always liked their Chicken Walnut Salad sandwich. I hope it has better luck than Burger Star, Big Cheese, Local Beer Patio + Kitchen, and B&G Tasty Foods did.

And Pieocracy, Rita's Ice, Cuppycakes, any others we're missing? The churn does not seem extraordinary, but my point of reference is Oakview Mall's food court.

Honestly who goes to that outlet mall (or probably most any outlet mall) with the goal of eating lunch or dinner? People go to shop for something to put on their bodies and not in them. That said, sometimes shoppers spend more time at the mall than they might have planned, and get hungry. But judging from the crazy churn of restaurants there I’m guessing the number is relatively few. The one time we were shopping there and decided to eat lunch two of the restaurants on the west side were padlocked shut. I do recall eating at Voodoo Taco once. Are they still there?

I think your assumption is fair for shoppers who are somewhat local. Many shoppers traveling through would likely eat something there if it was a decent option. There are a lot of out-of-state and out-of-county cars in the lots most of the time.

It hasn't been an outlet mall for a long time. The stopped marketing themselves as that a number of years ago

Looking through some stuff I had saved, I found this and had forgotten that this was announced In a Grow Omaha market report dated Aug 2021

Big Retail News – Nebraska Crossing continues to add major retailers. Women’s clothing store Aerie has just opened. PacSun will open in the fourth quarter of this year. Hurts Donut Company will open early next year. The property will announce yet another major national tenant soon.

I wonder what ever happened to the Hurts location at Nebraska Crossing.

Did a search here to see if there were comments on this, and all I saw was a reference to a location at Inner Rail Food Hall from January 2025. I do not see that location mentioned on the Papi's website. Did they ever open there, or did they open and close?


On their menu board inside, in big letters at the bottom, they say" Like Chepotlie's but local." It's interesting to have this in big, bold letters.

I had a build-your-own Chicken Burrito. My wife had a burrito bowl. We chose many of the same ingredients. They also had Burgers on the menu on the wall in the store. I do not see mention of those on the website.

They were there as recent as last week. I’ve eaten at that location a few times. I thought it was ok. I enjoyed the habanero hot sauce. I wish the ingredient choices were less basic. My biggest grip is it’s hard to spend less than about $15(like most of the food hall) and the portions are too big. I would gladly pay closer to $9-10 for half the portion. It seems like they keep tweaking the menu, I don’t remember the Chipotle analogy when I was there. Not a good selling point for me since I hate cilantro and Chipotle has decided to put it on everything.

Agree on portions. Took half my order home. But only reduce the portion to reduce the cost, not increase the profit

I know he wasn't happy with Gretna telling him "no" regarding his Mega Disney-esque "Goodlife District" request... wasn't sure if he's trying to do something else.

Another Rack out at NEX would be a waste, IMO - we've been to the one at VP a couple of times and it's basically like a Marshall's with a fancier name attached to it. For being a pretty new store, it looks depressing and like a thrift store inside. They'd be better off shooting for a Macy's if they could land one.

I don't know that Yates himself really owns much more land than where the current NEX buildings sit, unless he's acquired additional acres. Maybe a farmer out there will sell directly to IKEA and take Yates out of the equation... wouldn't that be something! LOL

I believe that after many years of the land owner not being willing to sell the farm land to the north of Nebr Crossing, that has changed. I think Yates was able to buy that land a year or so ago.

One of our daughters is "into" some of the anime/Japanese products and she went out there... said it wasn't great. I have no comparison as I don't know anything about the products they sell.

On a somewhat related note, Francesca's announced they're closing all stores across the US - they have one at Nebraska Crossing (plus Westroads and Village Pointe).

Haven't heard much of anything from Mr. Mayor Rod Yates lately. Did he up and leave Omaha? I try to give him credit where it's due (ie, getting some of the retailers out there is pretty impressive), but after he was shot down with his mega-opolis ideas he kinda went crickets.

I hope they don't continue losing tenants - Yates has been pretty quiet for the past several months. I know he was pretty PO'ed about how he thinks he was shunned by Gretna with his wanna-be Disney Land-ish goals.

However, if the Buc-ee's does happen, then that could be a blessing to that development that may bring in even more unique tenants.

From the Grow Omaha 7/22/2021 - Weekly Market Report: “This We’ll Defend” – Grunt Style, a San Antonio-based online retailer of patriotic apparel, is opening its first-ever bricks-and-mortar location at Nebraska Crossing near Interstate 80 and Highway 31. The soft opening is planned for July 28th with an official grand opening August 20th. The retailer’s slogan is “Pride in self, in military and in country.”

As noted by Grow Omaha, Grunt Style has closed their Nebraska Crossing location.

The Eddie Bauer Store that is closing at Nebraska Crossing due to their financial issues, and a lot of stores closing will be replaced by the Buckle

BTW, the LEGO store at Gretna Crossing is too small... they should concentrate on trying to acquire the empty bay next door and increasing their retail footprint first.

Tipico Helado will be taking over the former cold stone creamery space. I also saw they are getting ready to open a new downtown Council Bluffs location here soon. Quite the expansion for them this year.
