I wonder with more space if they will get a bigger/second pizza oven. Can get a little backed up sometimes in the one they have now.

They are quite possibly the best pizza place in Omaha.

We are so grateful to have been able to open and share our New York style of pizza. We're looking forward to expanding to a larger space on the corner soon and will be opening Ansel's Deli in our current space:) Noli

Noli's Pizza - Blackstone (40th & Farnam)

Post by HskrFanMike »

I'm not a fan of New York style thin pizza, but Noli's could change my mind. It's the best NY style pie I've ever had. Unfortunately, it comes at a price: $50 for two pizzas is a little steep. But no question it was good...and that's something I've never been able to say about the other NY style places in town.

Noli's is now open in it's new location.

What I'm looking forward to is the deli going in their old location.

As noted by Grow Omaha, Noli's Gretna location will be closing permanently this Saturday (10/14/2023).

From Noli's Facebook page:
Hey there, pizza lovers! We have some bittersweet news to share. Sadly, we've made the tough decision to close our beloved Gretna location. It's been an incredible journey, filled with amazing friendships, loyal regulars, and countless happy guests. Saying goodbye is never easy, but we're grateful for all the wonderful memories we've created together.

But hey, don't let this news bring you down just yet! We're here for you until the very last slice is devoured. So, make sure to swing by throughout this weekend and next week to satisfy those New York Inspired Pizza cravings. Our doors will officially close on Saturday, October 14th -- mark your calendars!

I think I may have had the last (overcooked) pizza at Regency last night.

The pickleball courts were in disrepair. Not sure if this place is struggling or not, but it appears so.

Looks like Noli's Pizzeria is the latest to go to social media to plead their case,

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1SGdx23uYC/
Community, we want to be honest with you.
The last year and a half has been one of the hardest periods Noli’s Pizzeria has ever faced. Ongoing streetcar construction has dramatically reduced foot traffic, and as a result we’ve lost over $300,000 in revenue — simply from people not being able to get to us easily.
We’ve pushed through because of our incredible staff and because of you. But this weekend, with the incoming storm, we’re facing another tough moment.
Weekends are critical for us. They’re how we generate the revenue needed to pay our employees. The last time weather like this hit, we lost $12,000 in weekend sales — money that was needed to make payroll.
So we’re asking, humbly and honestly:
If you’re able, would you consider purchasing a gift card online to use at a later date? It makes a real, immediate difference for us and helps ensure our team — who show up every day despite everything — can be taken care of.
We know times are tough for everyone, and there is absolutely no obligation. Even sharing this post helps more than you know.
Thank you for standing with Noli’s, for loving local, and for helping us keep the doors open. We truly wouldn’t be here without this community. ❤️🍕

They have their other location with plenty of curbside parking at 64th and Center Street, next to Jim’s D’s.
And January and February (except for Valentines Day and maybe the Super Bowl) are always the slowest 2 months of the year for restaurants in the Midwest, both due to people being broke and the weather sucking.

Why are people broke specifically in Jan/Feb?

Also I never knew they had a second location.

I'm not usually one to rip restaurants and post bad reviews publicly, but we went to the Aksarben location before hockey on Saturday. We had a 6PM reservation. The waiter brought out 1 drink at a time for the 5 of us. Food came out in 3 batches, with 1 item accidentally duplicated, and the last of the pizzas showing up at 6:55PM, and wrong at that. We had to take it to go, and just throw it in the car, as to not be overly late for the game.

That's just not acceptable service.

Not sure if it was waiter issues, kitchen staffing, or training/process related, but I can see why they're struggling if this was my experience. We certainly won't be back anytime soon. And this is coming from a New Yorker that happens to like their pizzas.

Noli's is closing their Blackstone location. This is from their Facebook post:
Noli's Pizzeria wrote:Tue Sep 15, 2026 9:29 amI’ve gone back and forth about whether to post this, but I think people deserve to know where we are with Noli’s Blackstone.

Right now, we are temporarily closed. Our main pizza-line cooler went down, which is the second one we’ve lost in about six weeks, and at this point there simply isn’t money to replace it.

That probably sounds like a small thing. A cooler breaks, you fix it. But after two years of trying to survive the streetcar construction, we’ve reached a point where even something like this can stop the business.

For about nine years, Noli’s Blackstone was a successful restaurant. We paid our bills, employed a lot of people and built something I was extremely proud of. Then the construction started.

Over the last two years our sales have dropped dramatically. By my estimate, we’re approaching half a million dollars in lost revenue compared with where we would normally have been. At the same time, food, labor and just about every other cost of operating a restaurant has gone up.

We’ve put everything we have into keeping the doors open and keeping our employees paid. Personally, it has financially wiped me and my family out.

And that part is harder to talk about.

It’s hard looking at your kids and telling them there isn’t going to be a vacation again this year because there just isn’t any money. It’s hard spending two years worrying about payroll, rent and which bill gets paid next. It’s hard watching something that worked for nine years suddenly stop working because the neighborhood around it became incredibly difficult to access.

The stress has also had a real effect on me personally. I’ve dealt with depression through a lot of this, and there have been periods where I’ve had a hard time functioning normally. I’m not saying that for sympathy. I’m saying it because when we talk about the impact of a major construction project, these are the things that don’t show up on an economic-development report.

There are families behind these businesses. There are employees. There are people who put their savings, their time and years of their lives into them.

Noli’s is especially personal to me because my dad and I physically built the Blackstone restaurant together. We gutted and rebuilt that space. We built the tables and much of what you see inside. We took on roughly $350,000 to build out a property we don’t own.

My dad had a stroke last year and is now in a VA home in a wheelchair. So when I walk into Noli’s, I don’t just see a restaurant. I see something my dad and I made together. The possibility of losing it is difficult for me to even put into words.

I also struggle with hearing that situations like this are simply capitalism or “survival of the fittest.”

It doesn’t feel that simple from where I’m standing.

Large developments and property owners routinely have access to TIF, tax incentives and other forms of public support because we understand that development sometimes requires help. But when a years-long public construction project devastates the revenue of a small business, somehow that business is expected to absorb the loss on its own.
Small businesses don’t have unlimited reserves. Eventually there’s nothing left.

I’m not saying every decision I’ve made has been perfect. Of course there are things I could have done differently. I’ve spent two years trying different ideas and trying to adapt. I’ve also spent the last eight months operating our food truck in Blackstone late at night, so I see firsthand when people are actually in the district. There is still activity, but much of it has shifted later into the night, after the traditional dinner hours that restaurants like ours depend on.

I’m still trying to figure out what comes next. I’m passionate about the food, and I still believe I can create something that works in Blackstone. I’ve been working on a different concept and business model that I believe fits what the neighborhood has become much better.

But right now, the immediate reality is that Noli’s Blackstone is closed because a cooler broke and, after two years of this, we don’t have the money to fix it.

I don’t know whether we’ll be able to reopen later this week, this weekend, or what the answer ultimately is.

I just know we’ve tried incredibly hard to stay.

And I think people should understand the human toll when a successful small business can go from doing well for nine years to this in two.

This isn’t just about Noli’s. I know we’re not the only small business going through it.

Noli’s Aksarben at 6307 Center st. Will be open normal hours.

Thank you for your support,
Joel, Krys, Ansel and Noli

I agree that lengthy construction in the area can really torpedo a small business, so I sympathize with that. However, given how they completely mismanaged their Gretna location, I'd say they have more problems than just the streetcar project.

As a small business owner for almost 40 years i would like to comment on these negative post. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT TAKES. This is like criticizing a brain surgeon when you dropped out of high school. Running any business is hard. Running a small restaurant is brutal. They have lost revenue they will never get back. Their rent didnt stop. Their loan payments didnt stop. Their insurance didnt stop. The city forced this project through with no thought on how it would effect all these businesses. How about we all rally and support the Aksarben location. Call the Chamber and make a donation. Anything positive.

I am not a business owner, but I think I have a little understanding and compassion for the situation. It is fine to point out your situation, but at what point is there a diminishing return? As bad as it is, you just need to not vent.

I was actually their very first customer at their Gretna location, ordering a takeout pizza on-site as they were just opening their doors for the first few minutes of business. They were the ones who pointed out that I was the first. Liked what they offered and wanted this to work so badly.

They made it impossible in a lot of ways to have a chance to be sucessful. I will not go into details here because this is negative enough, but there are plenty. I will add that I did provide feedback to them privately as they proceeded. It doesn't matter whether they ignored it or acted on it, but I want others to know I didn't complain only to myself or my close circle, and that what I shared was suggestions, not just a complaint. I didn't do or say anything publicly; that is not my way, for the most part. I have to agree 100% with the last part of your post.

I have no doubt that the streetcar has impacted their business. However, there are a lot of businesses along the streetcar construction that, while also impacted, seem to still be busy (Block 16, Koen, Mula, Homegrown, Coneflower). I gave up on Noli before the streetcar started because of consistent service issues. There are just much better pizza options in Omaha. Period. I'm getting sick of the streetcar blame game.

Thats where I am at. I 100% believe construction for this long has impacted them. I have only had Noli's once about 7 years ago and it was great. Ordered it while at one of the bars in Blackstone, but sounds like there is more to the story than just the construction.
