I thought the snow was supposed to hold off until late Friday night, after midnight. Has that changed now?

I believe it’s one of those senecios where the snow needs the to overcome the dry air. The sooner it overcomes the dry air, the sooner it starts and the more we get.

I just mistyped things. The snow won't start until mostly overnight Friday into Saturday I meant.

Quick update, things are trending down for snow totals currently in the local area with dry air probably winning out for the most part. I'm thinking a dusting up to an inch of snow in the local area now unless things change starting mostly overnight tonight into tomorrow.

I thought that's crazy that somewhere 3 hours south of here is set to get about twice as much snow in one go as we've gotten all season.

Sounds like the same story it's been so far. Snow's been tough to come by this year. For all the snow haters out there, dont take this season for granted, we're about 13 inches behind to date.

Its quite incredible if you go anywhere that sells ice melt, they might as well have not sold any. Thats almost unheard of this late into the season. Any ice melt that was put down was just for shits and giggles.

Kind of surprising that we are not in a drought in the Omaha metro currently with the lack of winter precipitation. I'm hoping we can just avoid an April snow storm this year and just move into Spring.

Yeah, thankfully we've actually had about "average" for precip but much of it fell as rain a few weeks ago. Typically rain this time of year doesn't soak into the ground very well since usually it's frozen but considering how warm it's been (up until recently anyway), I'm pretty sure it soaked in fine this time which is why we've avoided being in a drought so far anyway...

Glad to know Max Velocity is a Patriots fan. He compared the good snow as Drake Maye, and the weak wintry precipitation to Jarrett Stidham.

It's nuts how far south they're talking. Southeast of Dallas and on Northeast from there.

I saw the map of warnings and advisories, and in classic form, Omaha and the handful of surrounding counties were at one point basically the only area east of the Rockies that doesn't have something. Go figure.

I just can't believe how many tiny snowfalls we've had. We have a total of less than 2", yet its snowed, 6? 7 times? Its to the point of being goofy. I just lost the game.

Typically we can count on having a sizable snow by now, which I conservatively would consider to be 4" or more. Winter has just been a tease at this point.

Here it is February 1st. After I got out out of the shower, I went to get some pajama pants, and I have a pair that has a snowman pattern. I felt it ironic, and I felt bad for the snowmen. The snowman is no man. I really put them on because they might be the only snowmen I see...

Its a little sad, really. Haven't even had enough snow to make a snowball, let alone a snow man. I feel bad for kids, though I'm sure they're fine with their other forms of entertainment.

It just struck me seeing the snowman pattern and thinking "what snow?" I laughed at first, but then it set in, I don't think theres ever been a winter with less snow to this point, in my life at least. Crazy.

I had a house in my neighborhood where the kids built some walls for a fort in the front yard. I assumed it was for snowball fights, although I never saw them use it. But it didn't melt until well into December.

I get what you are saying though. We haven't had a lot of snowfall the last couple years. Last year we didn't even have any measurable snow until February, which is insane. And if it wasn't for the late November snow we received, this year would be pretty close to that. I personally love the fact we are not getting a lot, but I know others would love to see more. It is good we received an inch of rain with a thawed ground in early January to help keep us out of a drought.

Why I'm not recalling that. I do remember one snow where I did see kids having a snowball fight, but I remember it being about 2.5" tops. It didn't leave much of an impression at least. Eppley shows having recorded no snow, so maybe it was more substantial out west.

Where I'm at, yeah, I'm recalling that one snow that was slightly worth a darn, but the rest of the way its been so dang stingy.

Other thing about it is we've seemed to get more late season snow recently, much to my chagrin as a gardener. I prefer dealing with it (and enjoying it) over the course of the winter, rather than BOOM all of it fall in February and March. Of course, theres no guarantee that'll happen either, and if it doesn't, at this rate we'll have missed out on some 25" of snow. We'll see.

The last couple seasons, the last freeze has been later, and the ground wetter usual, which made it darn near impossible to grow early season stuff. Then within a couple weeks, it was time to start planting tomatoes and peppers, which is a pretty wacky swing from that perspective.

Anyway, if you squint really hard at your photo there, there appears to be a pocket that protrudes up into Omaha that was in the 3" range. Its all an estimation anywho. Exactly where I was at, it was just enough for a snowball fight. For that to happen once isn’t saying much.

I want that all winter long stuff.

It's crazy to look outside in February and consider what color the grass is. I remember the same deal last year. I said man, it looks awful dry out here, and I thought, well duh, its dormant, but you never usually see it until things are starting to green up.

Its a little depressing to look at that brown landscape all winter. I could never live any further southwest of here.

We have been a wee bit chilly down here the past week. Yesterday, at 6am it was 21° in my neighborhood - 20 miles north of Raymond James stadium and it was 26° in my hometown in sdak- just east of Sioux Falls. It has been warming up to 50s-60s during the day. Tonight (Tuesday we are supposed to be down to 29°, but then I think it is supposed to to warm up for awhile. In the 6.5 yrs I have been down in here this has been the longest stretch of temps that low.

Our front hall closet is too small to hold all of our jackets and coats. Typically we just keep windbreakers and lighter fall/winter jackets inside, while storing the Eskimo type coats in our basement, where they mostly collect dust. When the weather turned sub zero for a week or two in late January we were forced to trade out the windbreakers and hoodies for the heavy duty stuff, complete with scarves and gloves and stocking caps.
Then, just like that, the 40s, 50s and 60s returned. So less than 2 weeks later we swapped everything back for just the hoodies and lighter jackets.

Really thinking about getting the lawn mower out too. Haven't had it out since late Nov or Early December so the lawn is definitely ready for a cleanup mow to get all the oak leaves that have blown in.

Definitely one of the warmer Super Bowl Sunday’s I can remember. We are usually in the dead of winter this time of the year. Today feels like a mid March day. Even when it’s gotten cold this winter it hasn’t lasted for more than a few days.

Shattered the record today. After reading that trend up there, It is troubling. I had half a mind to put the AC on. When that evening sun get baking (In early February? ). I've never, I'm really speechless.

One of my favorite things about this time of year is "nature's fridge-freezer". And man, it was only reliable for that for a handful of days. It cant be over already, can it?

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if some volunteer tomatoes got germinated after today.

Most people who have tried to get our politicians to make changes have quit trying, and moved on to acceptance.

I certainly quit around 2012 as I developed a more cynical, "we get what we deserve" attitude and "burn it to the ground" mentality.

People in my sphere have longed moved on towards acceptace and further even towards one of two camps: cynicism or mitigation.

This problem is not going to be solved, so better to be ready to watch the fireworks

I actually think we were too late before we started. Like the minute the industrial age started. I worry for the most recent generation. I can move to Alaska if it comes down to it for my own comfort, and I'm old enough, I may be gone before it get really, really bad.

But people who have to live after 2050. I've mentioned it many times here, theres an abysmal book called The World in 2050, and that came out around 2010. I'm looking around, and I'll be darned if it isn’t actually worse than even that predicted.

I say let er rip and live your best life, as I don't think there's anything that can be done on an individual level to slow it down, definitely not reverse it.

Definitely on the shorter side - a little under 3 months. But it doesn't beat a few years back we got into the 70s on December 15th and then had one towards the end of February - about 2.5 months. I think we normally go around 4 months between.

Western Nebraska really had a short period between 70s this year though. They had one a couple days after Christmas and then again a few days ago (along with yesterday as well) - less than 1.5 months!

I roughly counted 79 days this season, 73 in 2021-2022. I could be off by a day or two, but that we had two of the shortest periods between 70 degree days in the last few years is concerning. Not my cup of tea at least. Stir in that 69 in early January, that's close enough to tell me something is off.

I haven't looked at any snow forecasts yet, but they did upgrade us for a marginal risk for severe weather this evening. Mostly a wind threat.

Yep, saw that. Not shocked with the strong storm system passing up to our north.

Currently snow in the local area doesn't look like a big deal Thursday (mostly north of us) or Saturday (mostly south of us) but things can always change yet.
