Creighton had a great comeback win. Down 7 with 1:30 to go they came back and hit a game-tying 3 with 18 sec left and Georgetowns bucket at the buzzer was waved off. The Jays won the OT period after a fast start and won 86-83.

Not a great game but Swartz played great and was 12-16 including 8-12 from 3 and had a career high 33 pts last night. He got a bucket every time they needed one.

Swartz was on fire. Nice to get a win, albeit by the skin of their teeth, against an Ed Cooley team. He often seems to have the Jays' number.

Cooley does but Jays have been able to beat him lately and they have definitely owned Georgetown over the last few seasons.

What a turd of a game yesterday in about every way. The Jays didn't play well , the overzealous officiating was very ticky tacky most times and generally inconsistent, and the commentary was in love with Providence. For mid-January it's looking bleak for the post season.

Tough game. Swartz was 12-16 previous game and 1-13 this game. He was forcing everything. Between that and playing no D, it was a terrible game. What’s sad is the Jays were up by 10 6 min before half and gave it up in a hurry.

The number of offensive rebounds that Providence pulled down was crazy.

Some of it was due to Creighton’s inability to rebound, but a lot of it was because they went to a zone.

I'm a Bluejay fan for over 50 years. I've been watching more Husker games this year (like a lot of folks) and I notice that Nebraska's passing is so much crisper than Creighton's. Creighton also has done poorly with preventing offensive rebounds, and that means trouble in the Big East.

What a finish for the Jays tonight. Couldn’t play any D and Jasen Green only played the first half . Down 2 with 4 sec left Swartz made the first but missed his 2nd FT. He hustled grabbed the rebound and banked home the winning shot with .6 seconds left.

That was a ridiculous ending to the game. While the story is Swartz's winning shot, the actual final play was darn close to succeeding. Xavier's inbounding pass was right on target and one of their players actually was able to direct the ball to the hoop - missed it by a gnat fart. Great inbounds throw.

So only have watched a couple games on TV and from what I’ve read online, it doesn’t seem the transfer portal players have worked out well for Creighton this year. Do you think McDermott might hand the reins off to the ‘coach in waiting’ after this season? Prediction on how many players enter the portal?

I have no clue, but I can't imagine McDermott leaving after this season, but who knows. With the NIL era, I don't think anyone has even a clue how many guys will leave teams, especially not at this point in the season. There just isn't any loyalty any more. If a guy has a breakout season, you can guarantee that other schools take notice and offer big bucks. I think in Creighton's situation, they are definitely going to have to give Swartz some more money to keep him. In my opinion, I think Hudson Greer may be gone, but too early to tell. It really is a crazy time for transfers and it will continue until there are more regulations (if they ever have any)

Basically no team anywhere is completely safe from other schools offering $ and stealing players away.

In other news, Jaxon Richardson, son of former NBA player Jason Richardson, and the #21 recruit on 247 and #15 on ESPN just changed to "warmer" for Creighton. He is 6'6" SF and considered one of the best athletes in the national class.

Apparently a bunch of recruits will be at the UConn game tomorrow night. Oof. I do not expect a win, but hopefully they can make a better showing than they did in Milwaukee.

Yeah me either, but hopefully a better showing. This year's Creighton team is so hard to figure out. They looked good in the very early season, bad in early season, and then up and down ever since. One thing to point out, its not like Uconn is exactly blowing people out. They have won 5 of their last 6 by 8 pts or less with 2 of them going to OT.

They're highly variable and not very good. I don't think there's much to figure out. I frankly don't think I see a single player on the team that really looks the part. Very disjointed and ugly basketball IMO.

IF you took the season record and stats and listed them side by side without the identifying details for the Jays and Huskers, you would assign the wrong team to the stats for this season based on a lot of history.
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!

I think the biggest thing is the Huskers are playing together. I think the talent level at CU is ok this year but they are not performing to their capabilities and not playing together. Nebraska has a very good team but outside of Sandfort, I don't think anyone is amazing, but they are truly playing team basketball and it is showing.

That is the downside to the portal. Mac has mentioned it several times but guys coming from all over don't know what it expected of them and what its like to play for Creighton. Even Ashworth and Jamiya Neal kept mentioning how different the expectation is at Creighton vs other places. But if the players are willing to put in the effort, the results will be there, as proof of them making it to the Sweet 16 3 times recently.

The Jays this season are a classic Jekyll and Hyde team..

It wouldn’t surprise me at all of they gave UConn a game and perhaps pulled an upset..

Their effort and play in Milwaukee the other night was horrifying. It’s been quite some time since a Jays team had such a wire to wire uncompetitive loss…

Agree, they looked horrible and acted like they didn't even want to be there in the 1st half. They were actually playing well in the 2nd half until the last 5 min or so and then it was turnover after turnover.

I think that among the transfer players, Dix has played solidly as expected and Swartz has been better than expected. This has been more than offset by the disastrous season that Owen Freeman is having. As the only player at the 5 position with experience, much of Creighton's problems have been lack of interior defense. Jasen Green has been exceptional this year, but he is more of a "4" and he is playing with a shoulder injury.

Agree with your assessment. Although Dix’s shooting numbers are way down and have cost the Jays. I think he is being asked to do too much, especially defensively, and that is taking a toll.

Attendance was definitely the highlight of the evening for the Jays. As far as the game on the court- I watched, shook my head, cracked open a beer..shook my head again and cracked into another..

I saw a clip yesterday of the postgame with Coach Hurley. He was being very complimentary about Kalkbrenner. Talked about how different it is preparing for Creighton vs when they had the best defensive player in the country. Mentioned he has followed him in the pros and sees how well he is playing. Then jokingly said he's really glad that Kalk is doing so well so he doesn't have to worry about him applying to come back to college...

He compared it to a UCONN player that went to the pro's the year before and how teams could attack and prepare a completely different way. So he understood the challenges that face the Jays this year.

Sometimes fans don't appreciate how great a player is until they are gone and see how difficult it is to replace them. Kalk was kind of a generational player for the Jays. I can't remember any they had before him that were such game changers on D.

He also mentioned that he's always had respect and good relations with CU's coaches and players (sounds like he's been in contact in some way with Kalk) and that he appreciates the efforts the admin has made to tone down the issues he's had with the fans.

Heard that Josh Dix's mom lost her battle to cancer this morning....prayers to his family. Has to be real tough on a young guy especially since they just played the Pink out game.

When I saw that he was playing this evening, I thought that it must have been a bad rumor. However, sadly, it was true. I can't imagine playing the same day as finding out that my mother had passed away. I wish him the best.

My mom died when I was 25 also of cancer. I was the last one to see her alive. That night I played hockey, it really helped me clear my mind for a couple hours because I had something specific to focus on. I remember asking my Dad if it was ok if I played. He thought it was good and even came to the game.

Thanks for the insight of how people handle grief in many ways. Also, whether losing a loved one suddenly or through a longer process such as cancer probably also impacts how we grieve.

Fun game tonight. Close early, Seaton Hall was in the lead towards the end and Creighton came back to win it!

Several people asked if I got a photo of tonight's game winning shot. No, I had a referee blocking me. Steve to my right and Nikos to my left both got it. Its part of sports photography, but it really sucks when its the game winner...

Terrible officiating (same as when we played at Hall) and the Jays didn’t play great either with sloppy passes all night long. The Jays finished on a 11-1 run including the game winner from Graves with 2 sec left. Glad for Dix as he had a nice game as well.

The Jays pull out another last second home win. That’s the way this season is going..

CU is firmly now in 4th place in the Big East. Sitting at 13-11..if they can finish the last 7 games of this season 4-3, they’d finish the year 17-14.. I wonder if that’d be good enough for a Crown Tournament invite?…

Dang, DePaul wins 72-71. Creighton's 23 Game win streak over DePaul is gone.

Creighton got owned in the paint and gave up a 3 at the buzzer at half but sure sucks to have Graves get 2 tie ups and both get called for fouls. Wish that would roll that way with our opponents (looking at you Seton Hall)

Big opportunity for Creighton tonight coming off the disappointing loss Saturday. Was that the first time Creighton has not had a lead at any point in the game since they got to CHI? If so, it was an impressive streak.

Regardless they could really change the current narrative with a win tonight. For whatever reason, the atmosphere at UCONN of late hasn't been great despite their season. I saw Hurley questioning why there are open seats at their games.

Don't see it happening. This is the toughest week of the season @ Uconn and @ St Johns. If CU could win one, I would be ecstatic.
