PayPal expansion?

Post by OmahaJaysCU »

On channel 6 today they said PayPal announced a 600 person expansion in their LaVista (or Papio) campus, with a new building. But wasn't this announced a year ago? I thought it was odd how no other news station picked this up, because this is a huge deal. I just find it hard to believe that the top news station is so far behind.

I think it may even be underconstruction. I saw it awhile ago just east of PayPal...unless it's another building.

The building you see going up is a separate medical office building project (below rendering uncovered by Coyote). There has however been grading done in preparation for the PayPal expansion across the street.

You are Welcome. Go over to Southport Tennant List and you can see some maps also that I posted earlier - showing where PayPal's new building is going. This was announced last year, maybe they were just announcing the ground breaking today. Grading started there a few days ago.

PayPal Mobile lets you text money

Click to ZoomPayPal will be launching a new mobile payment service, effectively letting you send and receive funds on your cell phone via text message.

Wasting your money on eBay just got so much easier, because with this new service, you simply send a text message to 729725 (PAYPAL) indicating the amount you want to send, and the recipient's phone number.

In other words, a message saying, "send 200 to 4157729525" would instantly transfer $200 to whoever's phone number that was that I just typed. If you thought losing your cell phone was bad enough, if it gets hooked up to your PayPal account, thieves can easily empty out your funds into their PayPal account of choice.

In the mean time, you can just call the toll-free number that PayPal has set up at 1-800-4PAYPAL and follow the prompts, or access http://www.paypal.com from your phones browser, but that just isn't as innovative as this whole text messaging scheme. No word on what kind of additional fees or charges will be associated with this service, so hold off until we get some form of official statement from PayPal.

Nice update. Is the extension (second building?) going to look similar to their older building?

You know, I haven't seen a rendering, but they were soooooooo proud of their first building I wonder if its going to be similar.

Also, when they built the first building, were they owned by EBAY yet?

A Second Home for PayPal

Image
The new building will sit directly across Port Grace Blvd. from the original facility, said company spokesman Steve Rozewski. At this point, no skywalk has been planned to connect the buildings.

Approximately half of the office space will be filled from workers currently at the Southroads Mall location and the other half will be filled with new positions, Rozewski said.

PayPal currently holds more than 100 million accounts in 55 international markets and in 2005 processed a total payment volume of more than $27 billion according to a recent press release.

New products such as Web site Payments Pro, which was launched in June 2005 and is designed to help online merchants offer customers even faster and more convenient payment options, have required an additional investment of employees and operations, Bettencourt said.

Paypal's second building will be across the street from the origianl building. They are still debating whether they will join the two together with a skywalk.

Thanks Coyote! The skywalk doesn't have to built for density reasons, it may be for comfort (no exposure to the elements) and quickness between the two buildings. This is West O and comfort is a serious issue w/ us.

Well if they need that much comfort then they should invest in one of those moving sidewalks.

Don't forget that paypal is very progressive minded. How many other companies do you know of that included a small "lake" with a path around it just so their employees could walk around it during their breaks?

So my point is: don't expect a walkway to connect the two buildings, expect a small roller coaster.

Yep! Sounds like PayPal is kind of like Google on the progressive side for employees. I hope this starts a trend.

In the most wide-scale advertising attempt ever known, Google plans to brand its logo into the surface of the moon so that it is visible from Earth.

The search giant will pay the US government an estimated $1bn for the rights to the lunar land.

"You've heard of Google Mars and Google Earth, where we show you maps of those planets? Well this is Google Moon, where we become the world's biggest brand," said an unnamed source at the company.

The Americans were the first to lay claim to the moon back in July 1969 when Neil Armstrong took "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

Planting the flag on the Moon's surface has always been considered a gesture of being there first, but that claim has now paid off in real money terms for the US government.

Google announced this week that it would sell a further 5.3 billion shares to raise $2.1bn.

Google's official filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission said that the sale of shares was designed to raise additional capital for future acquisitions, but the company declined to be more specific about any current agreements or commitments.

Analysts speculated at the time that the company must have a major purchase in mind and it is now clear where the funds will be heading.

Basketball court, sandlot volleyball court. I would imagine that they will continue the walking paths around their second parcel with more landscaping. Southport East is fortunate to have such a tenant.

Since I live in La Vista - I always get out of town through Giles to I-80 and pass this up 6 times a day.
It was not until the other day that I noticed that if you drive down I-80 from Hwy 50 to Omaha,
that this picture can not be seen. You simply pass it up without warning.

Brad - you had to be trying to merge into I-80 traffic with angry car drivers behind you and trying to take this at the same time.
Props to you. This is the first shot of Southport East from this perspective and probably the only one. I ain't gonna do it.

Actually when I took this picture I started at cabellas/paypall , drove down giles to 96 got gas, turned around went back out to cornhusker down cornhusker, took pictures at 96, drove to 72nd took wallyworld picutures, down to 370, took monarch place picture, took shadow lake pictures, drove all the way out 370 looking for something new got on i80 at highway 50 and headed back to home off of 90th and fort. So I actually wasn't merging when I took the photo. I am currently uploading the rest of my photos from this trip.
