I talked to a couple people that went to the show on Friday and they said it was a nice venue. It sounds like the bathrooms were broken or not done so the one working turned into a shared bathroom. Other then that and the typical opening issues of being able to get a drink, they gave it a thumbs up.

I stopped in at both The City Pub and Heights Draftroom in La Vista City Centre last night. The City Pub was a little dull (at least for drinking and socializing). I think they still need to build a clientele. However, Heights was pretty fun and lively and the one guy tending bar really knew his stuff and would remember the last beer you got and suggest your next beer.

LA VISTA, Neb. (WOWT) - It’s clear as you drive on 84th Street, south of Harrison, into La Vista that City Centre is a big deal and getting bigger. The sign on the concert venue known as the “The Astro” is touting acts with some famous artists coming this summer. Behind the 2,500 seat concert hall is the amphitheater, ready for its full year of entertainment. It’s one of the newest high-profile attractions at the huge development that is changing the face of La Vista. Dan Stickels works grounds and maintenance. He remembers decades ago when Walmart was the big guy on the block.

“I like it. It’s something where everyone can come to a theater and there’s more development coming, " Stickels said Main Street in City Centre is taking shape. A handful of small businesses have moved in and are getting off the ground. Other storefronts have signs that say, “coming soon” or “available”. People have already made it their home at the Vivere apartment complex. The buildings have a short catwalk connecting them. It has hundreds of units. A nearby parking deck is new. It’s just walking distance to the apartments, the downtown and the Astro concert venue.

La Vista Days highlights 2024



There was so much to see and do at La Vista Days 2024. Here's a quick look at some of the moments that made this year's festival memorable. Can't wait to do it again next year!

What happened to the cigar bar that was announced over a year ago? The Oasis Cigar link above is dead. Sounds like another failed idea for the La Vista boondoggle.

Nothing new for over a year. empty bays as far as the eye can see. What is there includes things like a couple of workout facilities, but very little in the main drive.

Astro plugging along with early curfews, but seemingly fewer big shows this year than last year.

Hmmmm. Not much talk on this development in this forum either as the last post in this thread was October 20024. Time to bring it back from the dead and pour some dirt on City Centre.

I do wonder how the developers didn't see this coming for the amphitheater portion of the Astro given the proximity of all the residential. Still a nice venue though.

I disagree with the quality of acts; some great shows coming up still this year.

Yes, I recently looked and they have a ton of acts still this year, by far more than most other amphitheaters in NE or IA.

What happened to the cigar bar that was announced over a year ago? The Oasis Cigar link above is dead. Sounds like another failed idea for the La Vista boondoggle.

I've been to Heights Draft Room and enjoyed it.

I thought City Pub was just sort of meh. The food was nothing to get excited about and service was inattentive. Though, I've mentioned on here before, I think we're a little oversaturated on modern pub/grill fare in Omaha. Burgers/Wings/Pizza over and over again at every damn restaurant. Their lack of visibility from 84th Street certainly didn't help them. There's a reason Chili's refused to move into that building.

The Astro is a nice space. I've been to a few events there. It's a great smaller venue.

It's a bummer about Oasis Cigar Lounge. I really enjoy a nice cigar bar.

businesses close, this isn't just about City Pub. Where is everything else? no new businesses in a good year. That has to be a huge red flag.

Maybe the music coming up at Astro is subjective, but at least for my tastes, they haven't had anything that's interested me this year. But, I do see they have a lot of country shows coming up. Maybe it's just a me thing on that, but I went to maybe 5 shows there last year, zero this year.

But, the real debate should be on the retail portion and there has been literally nothing since city pub opened, then has already closed. If it becomes Let it Fly, as rumored, that could help, but there is no synergy going on here. No reason to visit and walk around, as it was envisioned. It's a few disjointed businesses in different industries just limping along doing their own thing.

There have probably been more canceled projects there than anything that's actually happened. Oasis, Lincoln's Pub, all things that were originally announced then never even opened.

They would need to contact Let it Fly to re-book the room. City Pub's last day was 7/31. Not sure how fast Let it Fly will open. Seemed like it took them quite a while to get the old Barrel and Vine location converted over and re-opened.

While not absolute, the metro has a shared addressing scheme to make it easy to find places. While you'll find original numberings closer to the center of the original towns, many of the later neighborhoods have addresses based on Omaha's grid.

One thing that I've noticed is "south" is dropped from addresses in La Vista since they are all south (similar to how "west" is dropped). But that seems like it would create confusion since you don't know if it is a north/south or east/west address that way.

It looks like Sarpy actually split from Douglas before Nebraska became a state. Douglas was created the same year Nebraska became a territory - 1854. Sarpy was split off three years later in 1857 and I think a big reason was Bellevue didn't want to be apart of Omaha. Then Nebraska became a state a decade later in 1867.

I get that they fit neatly in the rectangle, but that McDonald's and that car wash structure were there for YEARS before La Vista City Centre was even a thing. So, it feels a bit disingenuous to include them on the site plan in a way that makes them look like they're part of the larger development.

On a separate note, parking is going to be an issue (isn't it always?). There's a garage for events at The Astro, but attendees not wanting to deal with the garage hassle simply park along Main Street and take up all the parking that should be reserved for the retailers on Main Street. There's sign about a 3 hour limit, but that feels too long and it's not enforced at all. I'd be a little miffed if I owned one of those shops/bars/restaurants.

At one time a few years ago, one of the Sarpy County municipalities would reject permits and applications that didn’t have “south” included in the street names (south 96th, or south 204th, etc)

Do you mean the space at 8045 S 83rd Ave? It's been so many things over the last 25+ years: La Mesa (I heard La Mesa was here before it moved a little south to Tara Plaza in Papillion); Ice House; Boston's; Bones, Brew and BBQ; Billy Frogg's; Stadium Dawgs; and currently El Vallarta. (I'm sure I maybe missed one or got the chronology incorrect).
