4 men on the court in that situation is one of the most absurd mistakes I have seen watching sports. Astonishing that happened

Well, Illinois beat Houston 65-55. They'll face Iowa in the Elite 8. I guess now we can cheer on Illinois and watch them knock off Iowa as payback for them knocking off Nebraska?

The Big 10 conference is doing very well in the tournament. Nebraska just can’t seem to beat Iowa in Football or Basketball. But still a great season for the Huskers. Iowa is the lowest seed still alive in the tournament. They got hot at the right time.

Yes, they did. They aren’t exactly a great team either. I think they finished the reg season going 2-6 with losses to Maryland and Penn State but they got hot at the right time like you mentioned. I just hope Illinois blows them out.

Yeah Big 10 basketball is definitely on the upswing. Last year the conference started 10 and 0 in the tourney. This year a record 6 in the Sweet 16, and we already have 3 in the Elite 8 with 1 assured to go to the Final Four.

The Big 10 is doing much better than they were for years. Usually they would have 1 maybe 2 teams make it far but several huge upsets in the first round (Purdue). The Big East is doing well with St Johns and Uconn still alive, overall 4-1 so far.

Yeah with the Big 10 getting so many teams in this year I didn't think we'd have so many advance as they did. I thought St John's as a 5 was idiotic. To me they played as well as a 2 or 3. I assume they got hurt by so many teams in the Big East having down years.

I really feel that this is not a flash in the pan. If you step back a bit this is really progress over the last three seasons.

Illinois punched their ticket to the Final Four by knocking off Iowa. I guess we can consider it payback for what Iowa did to Nebraska.

Glad that Iowa lost, wouldn’t want to hear any more gushing about them. They were a decent team that got hot at the right time. That’s all it really takes for March madness but they really weren’t a top 8 team in the country.

Yeah not a one year deal. In the last 3 years NU has made the tournament twice and the other season won the Crown.

Clearly not a flash in the pan. But I can't help but think next year is a massive rebuild project barring some NIL / portal surprises.

Kind of depends on how well we do retaining. If Sandfort, Frager, Berke, Jacobsen all return, that's 4 of our core 7. Plus don't forget we lost Connor Essegian at the start of the year, he was part of the core the previous 2 years and has already committed to return. Plus we also were supposed to have Ugnius Jarusevicius this season but he was also not able to get healthy, but has also commited to return next year.

I think those expecting or hoping for a big drop off with Nebraska might be disappointed. Two years ago after Fred got NU into the tournament many expected it with losing Keisi and Joshiah Allick. During that off season they lost Jamarques Lawrence to the portal and then Reink Mast to season ending surgery. Granted they didn't make the tournament but still got into the 16 team Crown (now 8) and won it. That off season they lost their top 2, Juwan Gary and Brice Williams. So I am not overly concerned about a big step backwards. Especially with reports that Nebraska is doubling their NIL spending in men's basketball going forward.

Great news that can only help the program's trajectory.

https://huskers.com/news/2026/04/3/hoib ... f-the-year

University of Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg capped the Huskers’ historic 2025-26 season Friday afternoon, as he was named National Coach of the Year by The Associated Press.

Hoiberg, who will receive the award later Friday in Indianapolis at the Final Four, becomes the first Husker men’s coach to earn the award in the 59-year history of The Associated Press men’s college basketball coach of the year award. He is the 10th Big Ten coach to win the award since the award was first presented in 1967 and just the second in the last two decades. The award is determined by voting conducted by a national media panel that picks the AP Top 25 during the season.

Also, Good Morning America featured Nebraska on their 50 states in 50 days feature last Friday. When they got to the sports clips, Nebraska basketball appeared first (Frager scoring the game winner against Vanderbilt). They also showed Husker football and the College World Series.

For the non sports stuff they showed some great clips of western Nebraska (including Chimney Rock) a lot of the Sandhill Cranes migration, some generic Nebraska beef and farming, and originated from the Desert Dome. All in all it was very positive.

I was most excited to see the basketball team highlights though.
