It appears the big open space (where they have occasionally put a big tent during big public functions) at Village Pointe will be occupied by an Old Navy store. I'm going off of a site plan .PDF which they have at the RED Development website.

That site plan also shows a Banana Republic.

You're right... I guess I thought that was common knowledge (I believe my wife told me about that one from a VP meeting)... but I don't see it on the villagepointeshopping.com website yet.

So, does your wife have any other inside info on future tenants out there? I wonder why they didn't build the Old Navy building at the same time the other buildings were built.

Nope.

I suppose RED was leaving the space open for some custom architecture, like... oh... I don't know... the Cheesecake Factory?? :P

Cheesecake Factory is doubtful, I spoke with Don Lachere the manager of VP, and he said it wasn't looking good. And I believe many of those stores on the map are still proposed.

RED just doesn't have the track record established yet in drawing the next level of retail/restaurants. I expect if there IS to be a Cheesecake Factory... General Growth will bring it in to Westroads.

Refering to the site plan PDF, I noticed the large space labeled "B-110", 14,800 sq. ft. next to the GameStop store. It is NOT labeled "Available".

A large Barnes and Noble store would be a great fit there, maybe move the Crossroads store to the VP location.

I have no inside information, just wishful thinking.

Speaking of Borders, Legacy has a lot of land available to develope yet. I think it would be great to have one there. Currently they have one North of Dodge, one on Dodge, it only seems logical they would build one South of Dodge. I think that space at VP might be to small for a Borders. The spot where they are putting Old Navy would have been an awesome spot for it.

I think Village Pointe would put a new Borders a little too close to their Maple Street location... although Village Pointe would no doubt be the better of the two spots. A book store would definitely be a real plus there though.

As far as bookstores go, Jeff is right. Borders is already fairly close to Village Pointe with their Maple street location. Barnes and Noble is also pretty close to VP with their Oakview location. It may be a hard sell for either, unless they close their current locations.

I don't know if anyone knows about this or not, but.....

A friend of mine was shopping out at Village Pointe and heard the managers of Finish Line talking after having just come back from a Village Pointe tenent meeting. He said he definitely heard them mention that J. Crew will be opening its first store in Nebraska at Village Pointe, as well as Abercrombie Kids. He also heard that a second Banana Republic will be opening out there.

My wife must have missed that meeting... all she told me about was the Banana Republic.

That would be great for VP.

I'd be against a Borders at VP. All it is currently is a bunch of weird stores not really found in shopping malls. It needs shopping which it really lacks currently. As far as resteraunts goes, they need to stop adding them there, at this rate, it could end up as just a bunch of resteraunts.

I think we're missing the point of the 'lifestyle' center. My wife alone talks of numerous people shopping in her store who are just waiting for their Cheeseburger in Paradise beeper to go off. The restaurants are actually drawing people to the retail stores. Same with the theatre/comedy club... they all feed off of one another (so to speak). Heck, if J.Crew and an Abercrombie kids store come in... they've added a couple of extra niches. And the fact is... women love Village Pointe (I know my wife accounts for the lionshare of spending in our household). And once again... it's not as if these restaurants are occupying space in the mall 'main street'. They're virtually all out parcels.

Hey... my wife noticed something else while visiting the Z Gallerie store in the Plaza for training. The Omaha store is doing just as well in month to month sales... as the Plaza store. I'd say that's pretty impressive.

My hope is that they continue to try and attract stores and restaraunts new to the Omaha area. We really don't need another Old Navy in town. I think Borders and Barnes and Noble both have West O, covered. I would like to see something new like Steve and Barry's (great store that opened last fall in Lincoln), or a Restoration Hardware.

Banana wouldn't be opening a 2nd store, the Regency one would close more than likely. It's too small a store.

SychoBC, did you mean One Pacific Place? not Regency?

Keep in mind that Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic are all the same parent company. I bet they will keep the One Pacific Place location.

Before I ended up at Legacy, I had been working with VP on a space. The leasing agent I was working with was awesome. Together we had come up with some great ideas. We thought it was pretty much a go, but Red wanted to wait on signing additional local specialty shops until they got the BIG GUYS signed. At that time it was JCrew (to be located next to Drapers) and Banana (to be located next to Ann Taylor Loft). The GAP had also been on location looking at available spots. This was a big bummer, so in the mean time I decided to keep looking.

That is when I came across Legacy. I found a corner bay with covered entry, windows on the front and on the side. I felt I had been looking for the perfect spot so long, I was afraid to let this one go. The good spots are difficult to find with everything you want... and they go fast. I think I made a good decision, but will miss working with VP's leasing agent.

Anyway, VP is going to be awesome when they get everyone moved in and settled. They will have a great mix of local and big name shops. Legacy is also going to be a great place. They have some great tenants signed on and some other good possibilities that are interested. Both VP and Legacy are going to be great places to shop. They both have ice cream and a coffee shop... what more could a person ask for? OK, maybe a place to pamper the pooch!?! By the way, I heard Roja will be opening within the next few weeks. The Margarita's are calling my name.

I've been pretty impressed with Omaha based Cormac thus far... they seem to be following in the footsteps of RED. Their 1 million square foot development in KC is pretty big news down there as well.
