Has anyone suggested adding a post reactions plugin? Would be nice addition. I know there are a few for phpbb.

Looks like there's a problem with newer versions of Chrome/Edge. I'll have to look into it a bit later.

If you right click on the image and select open image in new tab it works on the Chrome browser. Maybe it's been like this and I'm just now figuring it out?

That's always what I've done. But this new extension makes it show up in a pop-up box in the page when you click it.

I found a discussion about how Chrome is killing off code used by JQuery that is used to implement this and they are going to make a change to the extension to use something else. Firefox does work with how it currently is and what I use which is why I didn't realize there was an issue.

I'm going to adjust the max image size a little later to make it more like it was before.

I upgraded a few extensions today. There shouldn't be anything noticeable, but let me know if you see anything weird.

Also got tables working. This is something that is provided by the Advanced BBCode Box extension, which we've had forever and provides many more options in the toolbar of the editor when creating a post. There's a button on it that explains how to create tables, but it never worked before and would display nothing. Turns out I had defined some custom BBCodes years ago that interfered with it. Now that those have been removed, you can create tables like this:

Over the weekend, the styles of this board have been updated to their latest versions. As part of that, the customizations I made had to be redone. I had unfortunately made changes directly to the CSS files within the styles, so it took some time to get everything back to what was there before. There are some things I did differently this time around so you may see some slight changes.

Beyond the style changes, I did use this opportunity to improve the process of doing style upgrades by separating all my changes out into separate CSS files and creating scripts to install everything so the effort will hopefully be much more minimal going forward.

As always, please post here if you notice any issues.

And since I was at it, I went through the Prosilver (the default style of the forum software - phpBB) and Prosilver Dark Edition styles and made customizations to them as well.

I also have been looking at some additional styles that at this point am considering experimental. One of them is called Zeina and is one I've been exploring that could perhaps replace our default we use today.

And have you ever wanted to pretend you are viewing our forum from DOS? Probably not, but you can have some fun with another retro style called 1982. It's everything you've never wanted.

As a reminder, styles can be changed by going into Board Preferences under the User Control Panel located in the dropdown when you click your user name in the navigation bar. You can preview each by clicking the below links. Our default is Flat Style Red, but it also comes in additional colors:

I'm also a software engineer with around 20 years of experience, although mostly on backend systems. But I do dabble in web development some and have built some Angular apps that I've deployed to my internal Kubernetes cluster that runs on my rack servers in my home lab.

I've always found styling to be a bit difficult and time consuming at times to get things to show up a certain way. But I've learned to fiddle around with browser dev tools to add styles to classes until I get what I'm looking for, which is what I did a lot this past weekend. And I'm a big fan of flexbox and grid layouts.

CSS has always seemed to have been my game. Somehow it all makes sense to me where others struggled. I have worked in the Angular world, but unfortunately it’s been Angular.JS. I anbsorb knowledge like a sponge absorbs water and try to tailor my skills to the needs of the job because languages come and go but the fundamentals remain the same.

I occasionally I see "too many requests", but no this message is all by itself. I'm guessing it has something to do with using private browsing on Safari.

It is host issues that I've had to occasionally call them about. We have been talking about switching hosts and I need to start that process this weekend.

IS anyone seeing a new error when trying to log in that said to the effect "This Site Can't Be Reached"? It seemed to be in about the last 24 hours.

Some people have experienced this, and it is being worked on. Looking to see how widespread it is. We also know that some people are seeing it intermittently, and some may be seeing it all the time

There is a workaround that works most of the time to get access, and that is to Google search for a thread topic and then, in the search results, go to the board and the thread that way. Seems to work most of the time. I actually need to use this, and once in can get around the entire board.

I understand that if someone is seeing this block all the time, they will not see this mention, so it has its limits for being helpful.

The search that I have been using that is successful for me is "180th and Giles Rd"

It is occurring for me in firefox only (my primary browser). Your search suggestion worked though so thanks for that.

What internet provider or cell service are you using? There may be a correlation there.

I use Chrome, and my cell is Verizon. I have had issues on both.

I had this problem too, but was able to get around it by searching the whole board on Google, and getting in that way.. Could it be that those who can’t get in have a faulty link as part of the cache on their device?

I use Safari, and am on Centurylink.

Cox for the internet and again it is only impacting firefox for me. I can pull up the site in chrome with no problems. The issue was intermittent for me yesterday, but was happening every time I tried to access the site today until your workaround.

I use XFinity here in Detroit & have problems from time to time on firefox, Edge on my desktop, and with my phone, also with XFinity(using Verizon) trying to sign into here. i always thought it was from bad actors with some grudge against this board.

Of course it could be bored real estate professionals who are tired of posting c r a p here. But I could be wrong

There will be a point that I will disable the board so a final backup can be made that will be used to transfer everything to the new host.

Once this is complete, there shouldn't be anything noticeable. The site's address will remain the same and everything will still function as it does today.

Yeah, there is no DNS record for the www subdomain. I'll setup a CNAME for it when things are switched over fully. But honestly, the use of www is less of a thing now than it used it be and I recommend not using it as most websites don't need it.

No problem, I've been wanting to make this switch for a while now because the host we were using has become more and more problematic over the years, causing too many headaches and requiring me to contact them more than I'd like to.

Setting up the site on another host is actually not too hard and I've set it up on a server at home in the past to test major upgrades. The more difficult part is the DNS cutover so that the site isn't down for a couple days when switching over the nameservers, which could take 24-48 hours to propagate. But I should be able to change the records on the existing nameservers and turned the TTL down from 2 hours to 30 minutes earlier today so that the new IP will returned sooner after that switch.

Please post here if you run into any issues.

There are still a few remaining things that need to be done but need to wait until the domain registrar transfer is complete and the nameservers have been updated. One item that is not currently working is email, which means reply notifications and messages sent through the Contact Us page will not be received. I'll spare everyone the rest of the remaining things that remain because it's technical and shouldn't affect anyone.

I have also created a DNS record for the www subdomain so accessing through www.eomahaforums.com now works.

lol yeah it was. I reinstalled the phpBB files and only copied over the directories you keep when doing an upgrade as opposed to copying everything over. So I missed that file in the root. But I copied it over now.

I have installed a minor upgrade to the forum, which mainly addresses security vulnerabilities. There shouldn't be any noticeable difference.

I also blocked some additional bots and malicious IPs that were causing our site to be overloaded and running out of database connections. So far the number of guests are way down from what I've been seeing lately. I have also disabled search for guests since searching is a more resource intensive thing and that also prevents bots from overloading us.

This issue has been resolved.

Login Issues

It has come to our attention that users may see an error saying "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." when trying to log in.

This is likely due to the minor upgrade the other day that contained a fix to a security vulnerability which required the domain name to be configured correctly before applying. Prior to this, that setting did not matter and was actually set to localhost for many years until fairly recently.

To be able to login, ensure you use "eomahaforums.com" and not "www.eomahaforums.com".
