I drove by on Sunday about 1:30, and the only cars there were a couple out on the far perimeter of the lot. Assume they were employees. There were at least five cars at Bottles and Barrels that you referred to at that same time.
I might have been one of those cars. I went to check out the new store and thought they were closed so I went to Bottles and Barrels. I guess I should have checked the door.
I went to check the hours for the Still and found it interesting that, at least as far as I can see, they do not reference this location on their web page or have a separate web page for it.
https://www.thestill.com/
They do have a Facebook page.
The website linked on the facbook page is to the one above, where I cannot find any mention of the converty location as mentioned
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61572893544049
They mention on a couple of posts on the FB page that they are open 8AM - 10PM, but do not mention the days of the week or if this is for every day. They do not have the hours portion of the FB page populated and only mention hours in a couple of replies about specific posts that reference a day event.
They need to try harder to get in front of people looking for information on them, or there may be a building on the market in a year or so.
Very big investment for very little effort to attract customers - they really don't have 204th frontage exposure (granted you can see it, but it's set back about 1/2 a block or so)... and like I previously said, I thought it was going to be some sort of clinic or pharmacy with a drive-thru before I found out it was going to be a liquor store.
I do hope they're successful, but I agree - I didn't even think it was open for business when I drove by. But maybe that's part of their strategy???
The best marketing they have in place ANYWHERE is actually the semi-trailer on the opposite side of the highway, a ways from the actual store. It has a full trailer-sized banner on it stating that they are now open and giving the address
It seems to me that they assumed their reputation and market knowledge for the Lincoln market would automatically transfer to the new site. Primarily two different customer bases that need to be tapped. Lincoln can get by on reputation, but Coventry needs to tap into the new base. They are missing it IMO I am going to stop one of these times out of curiosity. Does anyone know how much advertising or marketing they do in Lincoln?
As metioned before, I drive by a lot and have been paying attention to the lot. NEVER see more than a couple of cars there, and I have been by multiple times on weekends, too, at times that would be busier hours IMO.
In the last few days, they have moved that semi-trailer from where it was parked along the highway, a ways from the store, to the corner of their parking lot in front of the store. I am guessing they are trying to grab some attention.
Also saw the photos of the grand opening event they had posted. I hate to be a downer on that, too, but the number of customers that seemed to be in the store, from what could be seen in the photos, was small.
I hope they figure it out, or I may be wrong, but the optics are not good from what I see.
IMO, the main disadvantage they have is their location isn't on 204th... although you technically can see their store from the HWY, it's not apparent to me that it's a liquor store. Definitely don't get the vibe it's like Wall to Wall Wines or any of the other large shops around town. To be fair, I've been in the old Toys R Us place a couple of times and it's never been slammed, but they do at least get business. So does the HyVee-owned place on 132nd & Center.
Like I said before they even opened... from the street, I felt like the building's design resembled a doctor's office or some other clinic that perhaps had a drive-thru pharmacy or something. I don't know how you spruce it up to tout that it's selling booze, but I'm thinking something needs to change.
I would also say this - once the new Bakers goes in at F St, they may find themselves in a bad place. I'm guessing at over 100,000 sq ft they will have a pretty hefty liquor store, perhaps similar to the mega HyVee on 370. Grocery stores will typically sell alcohol at lower prices because they can make up some of the low margins on their other products.
Lastly, I imagine something like a Walmart or Target could end up somewhere along that stretch (between Gretna and Elkhorn). I would love to see them succeed, but it may only get worse as more stores open nearby.
