CONSTRUCTION PLANNED FOR GRETNA CROSSING SHOPPING CENTER
GRETNA - The Lerner Company has entered into a contract to develop a large retail project at the intersection of Highway 370 and 192nd Street in Gretna, Nebraska.

The site has a half mile of frontage on Highway 370 and will occupy up to 70 acres. Ultimately, it will house up to half a million square feet of retail businesses and services. It is centrally located, and more importantly has access to both the I-80 Interstate exchange at Highway 370 and also the new I-80 Interstate exchange approved for 192nd Street.
Jay R. Lerner, President of The Lerner Company said, “Gretna is considered by many sources as the fastest growing city in the State of Nebraska. This site’s trade area reminds me of the trade areas for two extremely successful shopping centers that we have previously developed in the Omaha Metropolitan Area: 1) Eagle Run Shopping Center at 132nd and West Maple Road that opened in 1993 and 2) Shadow Lake Towne Center at 72nd Street and Highway 370 that opened in 2007.”
The 2024 trade area for this location included over 28,000 households with a total population of 79,000. Based on the current growth rate, the projected population growth will increase the trade area to just under 100,000 people in the next ten years. More importantly, when fully developed, it is likely to provide the City with a total of $5 million dollars in combined sales and property tax revenue annually, as well as creating 1,400 permanent retail and service jobs.

Lerner added, "This site is far and away the best retail location in the entire Gretna trade area. At this time, there are numerous national, regional and local retailers and services that have indicated an interest in locating within the new Gretna Crossing Shopping Center. We are very excited to be developing this project, which we believe will add to the attractiveness and prominence of Gretna’s current Highway 370 retail.”

I concur about the comments. I mean, what did people think was going to happen to farm land that's more or less surrounded by commercial development? People don't simply take over the "family farm" anymore. The owners get tired and when offered $5-$10 million or whatever to sell, they say "yes". They put in the work, it's their land to sell, so they move on.

I don't read Reddit, but I often times see comments on the forum about how Reddit users gripe about other developments, businesses, etc. This must be quite similar to that.

I can appreciate the frustration, especially if you've lived nearby for 20 years. However, if you're not happy about it, then like they said maybe they should move. You're not going to prevent the development from happening when the city wants the tax revenue and population growth.

It must be a few years out yet before anything will open there, but it would be nice if they could announce some tenants.

They didn't specifically say in the article, but is this on the SE or SW corner of 370 & 192nd? Or does it include land on both sides of 192nd? I thought CHI owned land for a potential hospital on the SE corner, or maybe it's a little further east of 192nd.

I assume that it is the property across from Gretna Landing. The hospital is on the property across from HyVee.

I believe its the South West, but can't find anything to back that up. I'll change the thread title once we find something.

As far as CHI, they own the South West Corner of 186th and Highway 370.

Gretna Crossing groundbreaking ceremony today

A groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning for the upcoming Gretna Crossing Shopping Center at 192nd and Highway 370. Attendees included Mayor Mike Evans, as well as representatives from The Lerner Company -- President Jay Lerner and business partner Andrew Lerner. Gretna Crossing is projected to add around 1,400 jobs to Gretna.

There have been rumors Target could take over the old Fleet Farm lot on the north side of 370 in Gretna Landing. However, that is still showing available for sale (about 18 acres). I haven't heard anything since about the start of 2026. I would think a Target in that area would do extremely well.

I suppose even now WalMart could end up further west - their store at I-80 and 370, I feel, is in a awkward location. Exiting I-80 during rush hour at that ramp sucks. It seems like no one knows which lane they want in until they get to the light and often times I see people turning into the wrong lane when they get on to 370. Maybe another WalMart further west (closer to Gretna or Elkhorn) would help a bit. Although I'd take a Target over WalMart 7 days a week.
