Zaska! Beer Co Tap Room (3548 Center St) - Former Bull Moose

Post by OmahaNick »

Lots of activity at this building recently. They’ve added two garage door openings. Word on the neighborhood app is that it’s going to be a bar of some sort. Looking forward to it!

Many moons ago -- like the 70s -- it used to be Ray's Garage.

I heard that it's going to be a Teddy Roosevelt themed bar called the Bull Moose or something similar. I guess it's a tribute to the time that TR visited Field Club of Omaha next door. Hoping for a nice big patio and some doors/windows that open to let the breeze in.

The liquor license posted on the door shows it will be called Bull Moose.

That fits with the Teddy Roosevelt theme.

I went to a soft opening for The Bull Moose last night. It's another great addition to Field Club. They have six beers on tap including three domestics and three from Site 1 which is no surprise as one of the owner also owns that particulary brewery. They also offer four or five specialty cocktails as well as wine. The outdoor patio will be a great spot when the weather warms up. Here's a few pics I snapped last night. It opens to the public tomorrow.

The Bull Moose on 35th and Center Street is permanently closing on 2/14 per their Facebook page.

Zaska! Beer Co has applied for a liquor license in the former Bull Moose space. One of the best patios in Omaha, I hope it comes to fruition.

That stretch has potential, but it feels like Vis Major is the only business that can sustain itself.

There was a previous proposal to demo the old Sheelytown building and build some apartments to increase some density. I see building residential in the near future in this area. Hopefully something like that is back on the table.

Also remember this area is getting a road diet in the next couple years, so it will definitely feel more like a district in 5 years.

It sounds like a brewery is opening a tap room in this location. I want to say Bottle Rocket but I'm not positive.

interesting. I'm looking forward to checking this out. Hopefully, it can create synergy between Vis and the new brewery, not competition where one loses out. That area has never had any specific synergy where you were motivated to hop from Vis to Bull Moose, etc.

I looked up the address of Zaska and appears it may have some relationship with Bottle Rocket Brewing but not 100% sure. Google street views shows Bottle Rocket signage on the building.

Did Bottle Rocket move? When I went there, the were in a 2 story brick building.

Edit, after looking it up, I was there in May 2017, so a lot could change in 9 years.

Same here! I think I heard a June open date but that may have changed. It's a short ride off of the field club trail so I will be stopping in for beer once they finally open.

Hopefully one day this area can be more cohesive and walkable. Center st. traffic through here can be a bit dangerous and could use a road diet.

I think Bottle Rocket is still there. They have a different address 230 S. 5th St. I just think they produced their beer in the other building, 211 S. 4th St. from what I can tell. I have never been there though.

Zaska is not affiliated with Bottle Rocket but they do both make beer in Seward.

The taproom should be open by early June-ish. It's a nice comfortable place in there and the beers are tasty. They've got 5 or 6 I think to start.

Thanks for clarifying the brewery situation in Seward.

I was out on the bike yesterday and tried to stop in to see if they were open yet and caught the owner while he was leaving the new location and he said early June. He did open the doors to a few bikers the day before he said, so not technically open yet but if around he might pour you a beer. Cheers!

Hello! I’m a long time lurker on this board (love reading about all things development-related). Saw this thread just now! I’m the owner of Zaska! Beer Co (an abstract nod to Nebraska). My business partner and I spent the last 20 years helping run a company called Smart Chicken, along with my father, who was CEO and part owner. When he retired 7 years ago after we sold the business, my father left it to my buddy and I to run. We finally left last year, and started work on this brewery.

We have 2 brewmasters that we brought on board as additional owners, and they have experience brewing at well over 100 breweries around the world (they setup, installed, and did the first brew on high end equipment for a company they represented). We are super excited to be a part of the Field Club community, and to bring our brewers beers out into the world for people to try (I’m a bit biased, but I think we have really, really good beer, haha).

As for the Bottle Rocket connection, they were leasing the brewery my father and I built 7 years ago in Seward. They have a separate taproom on 3rd Street with a 1bbl brewhouse which they still operate. My building has a 15bbl and 3.5bbl system, with 13 fermenters (8 of them are 30bbl). Frankly we built it too big, but that’s my problem to deal with now, ha!

Hi Brad, we don’t actually have a tasting room in Seward, just a production building. But my brothers do have our beer on tap at their winery, Junto Wine, located just off Hwy 34 between Lincoln and Seward. Our only space open to the public for our brewery will be here in Omaha (where my business partner and I live). I’m shuttling beer from Seward to Omaha myself every week :)
