They have a notice on their Facebook page about losing some employees as a result of a DHS subpoena.

Glad they are laser-like focusing on removing “dangerous criminals” from our streets…and apparently our community’s kitchens.

Right - as more and more service industries are affected (food, construction, pretty much any manual labor job), reality will set in and people will wonder why there are no workers.

But hey, gas is only $1 gallon and all of my other bills have decreased by 50%.

(more sarcasm inserted here).

Honestly, Fernando's (like Romeo's and El Bee's and, when it was still around, Julio's) is one of those restaurants I am surprised is still hanging around. I suppose that's due entirely to their loyal clientele who eat there as much out of habit and nostalgia as anything else. For me, and I've mentioned this elsewhere in these forums, it's just that mediocre Tex-Mex cuisine that was popular in the 70s/80s. I seriously doubt you could open up Fernando's with its recipes as a new Mexican restaurant tomorrow and have it succeed. It relies on an aging clientele that started eating there 40+ years ago.

Although not dangerous criminals, identity theft (highly likely), still makes someone involved in identity theft a criminal.

Reality will never set in for a certain segment of the American voting population.

Ever.

Last night the hubbie and I decided to try a new (to us) restaurant for dinner. We chose el Milagro at Pepperwood, next to the Baker’s supermarket. First the positives: 1. A rather fun, attractive place; 2. An extensive menu with a lot more than the seeming Omaha standards of tacos, taco salads, chimichangas and enchiladas; 3. There are over 60 tequilas on the menu, if that is your thing; 4. The place was largely full at 7:30 pm; and 5. Service was friendly and fast.
Now the negatives: 1. The restaurant was EXTREMELY loud, so much so that we had to shout at each other and at the wait staff in order to be heard and understood. We nearly got up and left before ordering; 2. Service was too fast. Our full meals appeared about 4 minutes after our order was taken. Plates arrived super hot, which told us that the food is definitely not prepared to order, and may well have been microwaved; 3. The items we ordered were both “meh”. Not bad enough to send back, but definitely not good enough to ever want to order again: and 4. While the staff was largely Hispanic, I didn’t notice a single solitary Latino customer.
Growing up, I learned a lesson that still has resonance. When you wish to eat at an ethnic oriented restaurant, eat where people of that ethnicity want to eat. That certainly has held true for Asian themed restaurants in my experience, and it also holds true for Latin American places. We see it in Mexico. If most customers at a Mexican themed place are from North of the Border, the food served will be tailored to the taste buds found North of the Border. Fernando’s has always struck me as exactly that. Food that is totally Americanized. That doesn’t necessarily mean it is bad, only that it is really not what it claims to be.
I haven’t eaten at a Fernando’s in over a decade. I’m guessing that the number of Latinos working there far exceeds the number of Latinos that dine there.

Was taken to Fernando’s by relatives a few years ago. I thought I was being punished.

You can justify your hated however you want. But you have no proof that any of them committed identify theft and this type of talk is not acceptable here.

For some reason we went to Fernando's tonight. We haven't been there in forever. They had a Nebraska Brewing Company beer on tap... Nebraska Brewing closed last year! The server acted surprised when I told her that.

There's certainly some places out there where I question just how old the keg is.

Well, if your food tastes run in the direction of this restaurant I’m guessing your beer tastes are about at the same level.

My work catered in Fernando's recently for tacos and nachos. I've never seen a sadder tray of shredded unseasoned chicken and can safely say that I will never actually go to this establishment.

I think the best thing they do is margaritas. The food is definitely nothing I’d choose.

Everyone always said that about El' Bee's too:

"Their food is so mediocre."

"But their margaritas are soooo good, OMG!"

lol
