Favorite Thai food in Omaha

What are the best Thai places in Omaha?

Bonus points for anything close to Dundee or downtown. :) I know there are some out west that are supposed to be pretty good, but I'd like to find a great close place that doesn't involve so much driving.

Any suggestions?

Thai Spice is by far and away the best I've had in Omaha.

We ate at Thai Spice on N. 108th St. tonight, by coincidence. Everyone in our group of 4 loved it. I have not had better Thai anywhere else, although I have not tried all of the Thai restaurants in the metro yet. Thai Spice has been consistently great each and every time I have dined there. The place is small, however, and you may have to wait for a table.

Thai Kitchen on 168th by Lakeside Hospital is the best I've had in Omaha - great food.

This is my favorite too, but I'm a Thai noob and have only gone there and Thai Pepper. I had Pad Thai at both and liked the flavor MUCH better at Thai Kitchen.

Taste of Thailand at 156 & Center. Havent been there recently but Charlie does it up right, start with the soup and spring rolls and vegetable balls. Everything is perfect and delicious.

Charlie was actually the original owner of Thai Spice on 108th and Maple. There was a bit of a fallout between Charlie and Rick, who I believe is his son and is the current owner of Thai Spice.

Both places are very good and both have the same foundations from which their Thai food originates. You can't go wrong either way.

Been entertaining guests from out of town for the last week by going to places we've never tried for the most part. My son loves Thai Spice so we tried it out. Our guests who have experience with Thai food said they could think of only one place better and it is in San Francisco. I tried the Basil Beef. On the heat scale I asked for a 6. (yeah I know, I am a coward). It was so flavorful. If it is possible to get drunk on Basil, I think this dish could make it happen. Hated to see the bottom of my dish come. BTW, everyone else in our group did take boxes home so the portions are large unless you're prone to being a pig like me.

Did this place change ownership AGAIN? I think it may be on its 3rd or 4th owners at this point, but then maybe it’s just perception thing. It has been a couple years since I was last here. New menu, new décor, and I don’t recognize anyone.

I absolutely love Thai food. Fortunately there are a few good metro area spots. I don’t particularly like Salween Thai. Their Pacific Street location is the closest Thai restaurant to our home but their atmosphere is just uncomfortably strange.
In a related note, the menu at the LaVista restaurant with the name “Vietnamese” used to be split 50-50 between Vietnamese and Thai food. I ate there recently and it’s now about 100% Vietnamese, and it is 100% delicious!

Has anyone tried Quality Thai in Gretna? How does it compare to some of the favorites?

Heart of Asia downtown has the best thai in Omaha. Khao Niao second.

I'm definitely stuck in a Chicken Pad Thai rut right now. Hard to try something new when the Chicken Pad Thai is so good.

my go-to order at khao niao is tofu pad thai and mango sticky rice. Like Brad, idk that I can ever break that because it's just so tasty.

I enjoy Pad Thai, even if it is the "spaghetti marinara" of Thai cuisine. It's a tasty dish and I won't be shamed out of eating it by the Thai food elitists. lol

Drunken Noodles are also very good.

I used to really like Basil Chicken, but the last few places I've ordered it at has been a little disappointing. Also, it's almost always described as minced chicken, but I get served sliced chicken. Restaurants can't resist the urge to use the chicken they have precut for their other dishes. It's better with truly minced chicken.

I used to get the occasional curry, but I'm less of a fan of coconut milk based curries than I used to be, I find the mild sweetness a turnoff.

Also, can we talk about the bell pepper in American Thai dishes? They're not even native to Thailand, but every time I order a dish in an American Thai restaurant it's volume is like 60% bell pepper. Can they take it easy on the bell pepper? Please? Maybe they could find another vegetable in their kitchens.

I LOVE the fresh spring/summer rolls. The ones that aren't fried. I could eat the heck out of them.

I have been wanting to try the Papaya Salad because it intrigues me, but it's priced like an entree and that's too pricy of a gamble. I need someone in my dining party to order it so I can ask them for a bite.

My go-to order these days is usually Chicken Pad Thai and fresh Spring Rolls. Sometimes I mix it up and get Beef or Tofu Pad Thai instead. I'm wild and crazy like that.
