It seems like electric scooters are becoming an extremely popular way for young people to get around, but I wonder if there's been any discussion about bringing these tiny EVs to the states? I think these would make great teen vehicles in some ways, even if impractical from a speed-limit and safety perspective (though certainly not any slower/less safe than the electric scooters you see teens zipping around on).

This is an area I would like to see more deregulation to allow vehicles like this. I'm not sure what the exact cutoff should be to allow vehicles like this, but these things are only a few $k, even cheaper than a golf cart, and could really change the role of transportation.

Some interesting things have happened since that article came out. While Citroens still aren't for sale in the US, Stellantis's FIAT brand still is. The Citroen Ami has a "badge engineered" twin called the FIAT Topolino. They're basically the same car but in different clothing to match the vibe of the different brands. The Topolino will soon be for sale at your local FIAT dealer to take home and keep as your own if it's not already.

That said, it comes with a few quirks. You can only legally drive it on private roads, however there will be a conversion kit that will allow you to drive on public roads with speed limits below 35 MPH. It also only comes in minty pastel green. You can get a beach themed version where the doors are replaced by ropes.
