Thats good, Matt has a positive attitude. Sorry to Bo Fogle, I find him to be a bummer. If its anything less than perfect, which is most of the time, you can hear his disappointment come through. Earlier in the week when it was 80s and upper 70's, he sounded so bummed it was gonna be back to 50's. Come on man, context! Its still march, 50's isn't bad. And some of us actually don't like it to be as warm as it has been this year. Its your treat, you should be positive ya got it!

It should be a great addition to their weather team. It must have taken quite a lucrative offer to get Matt to leave the Twin Cities, though.

Luke Vickery will be leaving the KETV Weather team- last day on air will be July 8th. He’ll be joining the weather team of KETV’s sister station in Orlando FL.. Per his FB post..

To me, this is a big loss for Channel 7. He did a great job. I wish him well in Florida. Maybe it’ll come around whenever Bill Randby decides to retire, I could see Luke making his way back to Omaha as the Chief Meteoroligist…

Aw man. He was a very good one. I was impressed from his first day, hardly any learning curve that you see with most young meteorologists. And I totally agree, I could see him back.

I will miss him as well. Partly because he was excellent at his job, never over hyping bad weather as too many of the other TV weather people seem to do. He was also easy on the eyes…

I had a feeling someone was on the way out once they brought Ainsley on. Similar thing at 6 with Jade announcing her departure shortly after Serwe started.

Or go the WOWT route and have everyone be a chief meteorologist.

Hate to see him go. Works really well with Bill during bad storms. And yeah, I could definitely see him back when Bill retires.

During the severe weather event last evening Channel 7 only had Bill Randby available, no back ups. Well, except his wife was feeding him updates on the severe weather warnings because apparently he didn’t have access to them while being live on air.

I believe their "Chat" from the National Weather Service is text bulletins and it would be hard to read the updates coming across when in front of the green screen. Back in the day, Rob McCartney would do the same for him. I'd rather have 2 competent people on air even if one of them is an anchor and not a meteorologist.

Looks like Jade Steffens from WOWT moved to KC.

So excited to share that I’ve joined the KSHB 41 weather team in Kansas City!
Getting the opportunity to forecast for the station I grew up watching has been a lifelong dream of mine.
I’ll be working part-time, filling in on various shows. I couldn’t be more grateful to do what I love in the city I call home!

Yeah. It’s ridiculous. I just watch the live streaming on YouTube. Usually one of the local big 3 are on live if the weather takes a turn for the worse…

Did anyone else notice the high-quality picture that WOWT used with the facbook post they had this morning for Pump & Pantry, where they shared old news?

I have really grown to like the reporting and coverage that Jake Bartecki does for News Channel Nebraska. I follow him specifically and NCN in general on a number of platforms.

I see it was announced today that he is taking on a new role with NCN. It Says Senior Sports and Special Series Reporter. He'll bring you daily coverage of the Huskers, high school sports and more.

Looks like he will still be doing plenty of reporting, and that is good.

I knew the day would come. Erin Hartley, after a good 4.5 years, is leaving. She didn't say what she will do next, but she's moving to Texas. Why Erin, why?

Anna Behning leaving KETV
Far and away my favorite locally. Unfortunately I knew she'd garner attention from bigger markets. She's really into hockey from her days at St Cloud State. Saw her at some UNO hockey games. She will definitely be missed.

I don't watch the news much, but it seems to be a LOT of turnover lately. Omaha seems to be a required TOD point for new reporters and anchors.

I thought Erin Sullivan did a great job, looked up and she's gone. Some of these anchors on all channels and reporters are nails on a chalkboard.

Face it, OMA is not a destination, it's a breeding ground. Sure, Danielle Shenk on WOWT came from Lincoln, and occasionally someone comes from Hastings, but like the new meteorologist on KETV, most on-air talent is straight out of a journalism mill. And like Anna, as soon as their contract is up, they're off like a prom dress.

Rarely, someone like Julie, Bill or Serese decides to put down roots, but few/far between.

I somewhat disagree. There are also the people that want to be the head anchor or the chief meteorologist. Those people leave Omaha because of people like Bill and Julie are here and not going anywhere. There are only 3 TV stations in Omaha which mean we only have 3 or 4 chief meteorologists in town (Channel 6 has two), and 3 male head anchors and 3 female head anchors. Sometimes you need to relocate to move up the ladder.

I agree with Brad. I think it’s an overall cycle you’re just currently in right now. I mean thinking back over the late 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s, I feel like there were plenty of people that made lifelong careers there across all the stations. During those years as I grew up I remember a lot of talent that were always there and I know continued to be there after I moved away.

I do think Omaha has a history of good talent coming through with the idea of moving on to bigger and better things (bigger markets, or national). Just off the top of my head I can think of a few historically. Tom Brokaw was here in the 60's. My parents remembered him. Chuck Roberts from when I was young was here then ended up on CNN. I would think Michael Scott from Channel 7 who ended up on Entertainment Tonight. For the non national but ones that left for bigger markets and made it big there, Dale Hansen. He was here, I can't remember which station but I remember him covering the Huskers. He went on to Dallas. I have seen him on a few 30 for 30's that featured Dallas or Texas.

Heck, Johnny Carson started here. Not straight news but he did host a morning program on Channel 6.

So some may be blocked, others clearly have their sights set on bigger markets (which is a promotion and bigger pay). I don't blame them at all. A lot of our local talent came from smaller markets (though some straight from college).

He's a nice guy. Run in to him at "Stick and Puck" from time to time. Apparently he plays in one of the local hockey leagues.

Julie Cornell KETV

·

The short story: I needed a new wheel!
A serious basketball injury years ago left me with reconstructive surgery and the surgeon's warning that someday, I would have bone on bone pain. I found an excellent medical team in Omaha and this week I join the 800,000 yearly who opt for knee replacement. Ill take any helpful advice from knee warriors--- as it's my first go round in this joint!!
I *hope to be back to work at KETV in a few weeks. I greatly miss my co-workers and the daily routine of serving our community.

Someone in my family opted to have bi-lateral knee replacement. They were tough and handled it just fine, but yikes, lol.
