What I don't understand is that the owh printing plant is newer than the one in dsm & when purchased was best in class. Why print there & not Omaha?

My guess is I80 & I35 are prob better suited for logisitcs routes than I80 & I29.

and, I'd guess more papers being printed in Des Moines overall servicing more cities in Iowa. If Iowa, based on more medium sized towns and cities than what Nebraska has, is still shipping to more places, then Iowa wins, Nebraska loses. Even though Omaha is bigger, the Iowa Papers would have DSM, Council Bluffs, Ames, Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and so forth. With Omaha, you're shipping that paper to Omaha, probably Council Bluffs, and a string of tiny little towns. Keeping the printing in all one location probably makes way more sense when measured that way.

Gannett turned Des Moines into their midwest printing hub because of 80/35 running through it, and then cut subcontracting deals with other publishers to offset their costs. The OWH, Kansas City Star, Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Lincoln Journal-Star, CB Nonpareil, Sioux City Journal and USA Today are all printed there now, along with the DM Register. Had nothing to do with the quality of presses elsewhere -- both Omaha and KC had better, newer facilities, but less convenient logistics.

I'm going to press the BS button. The owh is a ghost of its former self. It's not local journalism. Lee Enterprises sold out to Hoffman Family of Companies from Florida. Thus, Omaha's local paper moved from Iowa to Florida. I wonder if Mr. Hoffman has much input in the operations of the owh. I would assume that the real estate is where he gets his money back. Clock's ticking on lights out.

Bottom line: The patient is dead and doesn't know it.

I know we just normally complain about all things OWH on here but I did like the spot with the new Executive Editor of the OWH on this past weeks Grow Omaha. He seems to really be taking it in new and better directions. One example of this was their new partnership with Grow Omaha. Pretty much everything he said in the segment sounded like an improvement and that they actually have plans to grow and most importantly improve. I have noticed some other new partnerships appearing on their website of late.

I agree, that was the best news I have heard from the OWH in years. Hopefully they can broaden their scope and readership, like they plan too.

I have noticed some other new partnerships appearing on their website of late.

I commended them for trying. I started reading the OWH in high school daily, and that continued until maybe three years ago. Even subscribed to a F,S,S package that was mailed when I was out of state.

All the improvements in the world are great, but the cost has gotten to the point where the product delivered is no longer aligned. Something needs to be done to address this, and I am not sure they can improve enough to close the gap. I will watch and read occasionally to see the trend, though

Maybe now they'll bring back some semblance of the former Business section, maybe even with a local reporter.

That was discussed on the show. They have a new Business Editor starting October 1st.

OWH simply can't be trusted. Ever.

It's an enormous task to vet what they are reporting, not reporting, or slow reporting let alone accuracy to be a viable trusted quick read daily media source.

I find it sad-hilarious that they then seek media partners with others who do reporting or collecting of stories. It's just the local side of national syndicate articles. Any time I see a repost from any established new outlet publishing a Nebrasker Examiner, On3, Hurrdat, Flatwater or a Grow Omaha, I gain a feeling of high suspicion. Many of these outlets that are spawn, or offshoots from ex-OWH legacy staff have even now since devolved and run counter to their mission of being the "New Not OWH". If any of these new media outlets are signing content deals with OWH, the revenue sharing better be only one way, don't give them a inch.

I hope those on here that are part of the media, new and old, take notice.
