This is the perfect picture, it shows where the lights are, they’re just not turned on yet. The east side is the same way.2Adam29 wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2026 9:00 pm There's not currently any accent lights on the West side of the tower.

really cool time lapse. Wish they would have started a year earlier so we could have seen the tower go up, as opposed to just the topping out/crane coming down...

Professionally done. The new tower seems to bring the skyline noticeably closer to the river.

Awesome vantage point. Too bad you don't have a 100ft ladder; that would be a great shot up higher as well.

A couple from this morning. I was hoping to get down there at sunrise, but it was starting to rain. Then I was hoping to gt down when we still had some better clouds, but I didn't make it in time. So here is what it looked like at mid morning.

that's the money shot right there. I always thought the best may be from Abbott, but this may be better.

I agree! Awesome shot.
But I wonder why it is taking so long for them to finish installing the glass? Those four holes have been there for almost a month, now.

I'm just gonna say, while that is a beautiful photo that well exemplifies the new mutual building, I think it shrinks everything else on the skyline. I think the angle from Abbott is the best way for the skyline to look more well rounded at the moment.

My main beef with the Abbott angle is it misses all of the older building stock downtown has on the south side of the skyline.2Adam29 wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2026 8:36 am I'm just gonna say, while that is a beautiful photo that well exemplifies the new mutual building, I think it shrinks everything else on the skyline. Thanks. I don't ever get on redit so I would have never seen that.
It sure does from the ground, but from the air it doesn't seem to shrink things nearly as much.2Adam29 wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2026 8:36 am I'm just gonna say, while that is a beautiful photo that well exemplifies the new mutual building, I think it shrinks everything else on the skyline. I think Abbott shows more than Heartland of America Park does. I also think that most of us shooting from Abbott drive shoot really wide, which makes the buildings look a lot smaller. If there was a way to get back further and use a longer lens, lens compression could do a lot for that photo.Garrett wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2026 8:59 am My main beef with the Abbott angle is it misses all of the older building stock downtown has on the south side of the skyline.
Horrible quality, but I like the concept of it. Usually down by the water you loose a lot of the building stock, but this angle is cool with all the stuff along the riverfront.Linkin5 wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2026 12:48 pm Image taken from a tiktok video of people jetskiing, pretty cool view.

Yeah agree Brad quality is awful. If you could get on a boat a little bit south of here and still get in the riverfront towers with the Woodman building it would be a very cool vantage point.

I have been using the channel 3 city camera to try and judge how close they are to done.
By my count they have 12 floors left and the crown before all the permeant lighting is done.

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
Thanks for the pic. Based on what you added I would say your assessment about the light completion is probably pretty accurate. I did have maybe an odd question about the railing on top and sorry if this has been addressed but I am not really sure what the purpose of it is. If it is for safety it looks like someone could easily fall out underneath it. Is there glass in the open space? Also, isn't that railing just really sitting on top of a thin wall that hides rooftop utilities. It doesn't seem like anyone could or would be walking on top of the crown wall but IDK, maybe it will assist with window washing? I mean it's barely noticeable but I'm just not sure what the purpose is.

I haven't seen what it looks like up close, I need to take my big lens down there. But its not a thin wall, its quite thick and I have seen people walking on it. There is a photo looking down at it several pages back.

Any estimate on how many floors per week are they completing.Brad wrote: Sun Sep 13, 2026 10:44 pm I have been using the channel 3 city camera to try and judge how close they are to done.

Here's one of Brad's shots from several pages back. viewtopic.php?p=429879#p429879
I'm guessing what looks like a track in that photo is for the window washing crane. We've already seen it in action on the east side and looking at that track I would imagine it could move to access all exposures. With this in mind I don't know what purpose the "railing" would serve for window washing. Also, if you scroll down from the above link there are also photos that show how small a man is in relation to a would be "railing". Sure, in an industrial setting a "rail" may serve different applications than a residential setting but I have a hard time believing this is the primary function here. Now I could see a benefit for servicing the aviation lights, which I believe sit atop of the "railing".
Aesthetically speaking, the top border makes a lot of sense as a "crown". If its function were purely OSHA related there would be no need to match the curtain wall trim design and spacing. Also if you look at photos from pre crown installation the top looked like it terminates abruptly. Now it looks balanced.
Finally, I wouldn't be surprised if the crown also provided greater structural integrity for the top of the curtain walls. I'm sure Brad or other engineers could speak with expertise on structural relationships but I'm reminded of building Lego walls and how much stronger they become with horizontal blocks that link them together.
