Agreed.

I am glad the Service Life building is getting some love. It has been offices primarily for as long as I have been in Omaha. I worked there at Legal Aid for a summer (2013) before they moved across the street. Cool building, but it definitely needed a renovation. This is an exciting use for this building which could be Omaha's streetcar corridor.

I’m looking forward to the day when the FNB tower turns into apartments and the last office building downtown is gone.

Seriously, the city should be leading and working hard to get more businesses officed downtown. Maybe some tax incentives? (they’re used for pretty much anything else).

Also there should be a full court press to get 16th street more active, it should be a city showcase but it definitely isn’t. Maybe free or reduced rent for all those empty store fronts for a period of time? I’ve never understood why the landlords Aren’t doing more to get renters at street level.

ok, last comment - I think that the loss of HDR from downtown was devastating to offices being built and filled. The mayors lack of leadership and apparent interest in getting them to build downtown was a big indicator to businesses about how little the city cares about them and having employers in what should be the core of our city.

Lol, wut?? The mayor had a very public fight with HDR and Omaha Performing Arts about this exact thing. What is she supposed to do - enact a law that forces OPA to sell HDR the parking lot that was fought over?

If you want to be angry about this, be angry at OPA and John Gottschalk for screwing that up.

This is a decent building. I like the first floor with the funky curved ceiling. I haven’t been in it for many years. I remember it had a person running the elevator, don’t see that often.

The proposal came out 2 years ago. Do we know what was happening during the last 2 years? Does it take that long to negotiate with the city before the final proposal goes to the planning board?

I'd assume it's the LIHTC funding that caused it. That can be a pretty lengthy process. Also just speculating, but they may have had to wait out some office leases before starting work in earnest.

NW corner of 18th and Farnam. I don't know what this space was used for before, but I don't recall it ever being opened up to the street like it is now.

I think they are still looking for tenants for the commercial space, but I did notice people moving into the apartments recently.

i thought that was the DGx space that is downtown and it had closed or something, but that's on 16th, not 19th.
