Local Gas Prices

Ill need a solid year of unbelievably low gas before I forgive this debt. Im talking not just back to what it was, but like 80 cents a gallon. And then itll have to stay that way for a long time.

Just got a text from a family member that says a lot of the gas stations have Jumped up to $4.19 today. I got on Gas Buddy to look at what's out there and noticed some gas stations are even higher, Couple of the QT locations were $4.33 to $4.44 and the HyVee by my house $4.51.

Now go check the price of a jug of oil. It's crazy. Tire prices will have to go up too.

I always buy my oil from Menards or Walmart. They are 1/3 cheaper than the auto part stores.

have they not been talking about American refineries for like decades? Seems like a no-brainer to me to have built more a long time ago. Then again, i think politicians are dishonest sometimes and maybe we weren't/aren't in as good of shape as they say oil-wise

I wonder if they took the pedal off the gas for that once shale became so available and profitable for them.

The issue for domestic refining is that a majority of our refinery plants handle heavy crude, with a large amount of that crude coming from Canada.

The US drills for a mostly a sweet light crude which a substantial portion of which is exported. This is the type of oil that is commonly used for fuel.

At the end of the day it really doesn’t matter because it all goes into the same overall oil price around the world. The thing that would change that is Trump going even |expletive| crazier and instituting an all out oil export ban with fixed prices.

We just need one of those amazing Freedom Fuel stations in Omaha and that will make everything Great again! LOL

Put gas in my vehicle this morning and paid $4.49/gallon for basic unleaded (87 octane). At the rate it's currently climbing at, we'll hit $5/gallon before end of Sept in Omaha. This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid.

Putting the pain aside, it is kind of a social test. Eventually and incrementally, people will stop driving. Poorer first, obviously. I dont agree at all with anything that has caused this but I want to look at it's effect on us. On a positive note, this will show that we are still able to function as a society even if every individual doesnt drive a car. Demand for transit will go up. Maybe the streetcar system will be built out as necessity. Maybe neighborhood corner grocery stores will make a come back. Maybe Obesity, heart disease, and cancer will go down as the necessity to walk every day is part of every American's life. It could end up being the "Great Reeling" as due to gas prices and ecological necessity, we basically live out reversing America's rise, as far as mobility goes. The automobile experiment may be over. It wouldnt be all bad to go back to most people not driving. In fact, I'd love to see it some time in the next 60 years, if I make it that far. It'd be living out my dream of going back to the 20's!

Just look at history, its all cyclical. I comment when gas prices go up too but they always have an ebb and flow. Right now there are several factors playing into it. The switch to winter blends should be occurring soon, as well which could possibly ease some of the pain at the pump.

As for the 87 octane, you got ripped off, according to Gas buddy almost everywhere in the metro is $4.19 or less. There are a few stations about .10 higher but thats about it.

I think I've mentioned this before, but is amazes me how many people consume way more than they need. At my kids' school, there are literally people sitting there everyday for 1-1.5 hrs before school gets out with their cars running while they wait to be first in the pickup line. At my work, happens all the time too, people sitting in their cars with the engine running for long periods of time as well.

Of course the whole situation sucks, but I feel like if people would be more conscious of this it would help. Along with getting some of the traffic light coordinated better to help with traffic flow. I remember Papillion spending around $3 Million to get traffic lights synchronized better on 72nd and 84th St. but after driving on those roads, I can honestly say, it was a waste. There are times when there is only one car waiting on a crossing street for a few seconds and the light will change for that one car while the 20-30 cars on the main road all have to stop. Doesn't make any sense.
