I can't believe this! Nebraska had no business losing this game. Especially to a cupcake like Washington.

Yeah. I mean, if we were any good, we would have went up 21-0 in the first. It was there for the taking... But so was the ball.

Do you get the feeling the refs favored Washington tonight?

LOL. No. The Huskers just choked once again. They’re not clutch and they’re also poorly coached..

I’m surprised people continue to allow their hopes and dreams to be let down over and over..

The Huskers football program is a joke and they are jinxed. They can never win a big game of any substance. Now, they can’t’ defeat completely mediocre teams like Oregon and Washington..

It’s mind mumbling and a waste of time…

Seriously? Refs wouldn't even enter the discussion if Nebraska converts its 36-yard field goal attempt AND doesn't let Washington convert a 4th and 18 on Washington's final drive.

It’s the same old stuff every game. First and goal and a delay of game penalty which pushes them back they can’t convert and then miss the field goal. It’s like a book written over and over.

Not really, they were making bad calls on both sides. Just a bad crew overall IMO. In the end, Washington made the nearly impossible 4th & 18 catch. We stop that, pretty much game over.

So much for the blackshirts too. Where were they on those final plays? Imma call em the blackskirts from now on.

Guy on the post-game show said "Nebraska now has 9 more one score losses than any other school" That's 9 more than even the second worst one score losers. God knows how far that is behind decent teams.

God Nebraska sucks like they have for the last 2 1/2 decades… same broken record, just different coaches and players. I’m so glad I don’t have season tickets or pay to watch them lose.

Call me a downer but after 25+ years of the same |expletive|, it gets a bit old. They will never get back to top 5 or even top 10 performance in today’s landscape.

This game having anybody else thinking Frank Solich would have won us a couple natties during this time? Its just amazing you can pinpoint the day Nebraska sold our souls to be damned... We didnt think it would be this long. What could have been? We broke the chain and its almost spiritual, like dammit, you can feel the curse!

Are we unique in our collective agony? Is there any team thats fallen this hard? I'm thinking of the teams we used to play. Florida state has a championship since our last. Florida has two. Miami obviously won one in 2001, and have been to the national championship game since. Texas went to one and has been in playoff contention. Tennessee has been to the playoff since their last. Who else?

The offense isn’t fooling anyone. The defense looks better but tends to fade in the 4th quarter. We will be lucky to win one more game.

The Illinois game is Friday night at 7:00. That should be winnable. After that is Rutgers. That's definitely a winnable game. The last 2 games are Ohio State and Iowa. I have doubts about those.

Thing is, we only have these players 4 years max. With the portal the roster is a constant revolving door. That is a short time window to develop a young athlete. Rhule had more losses than wins during his short NFL gig. He was not a good hire from the get-go.

Really?? You can't let one brief NFL stint dictate everything he accomplished in college before that! However, something is different with him since his last go round in college but the contract basically keeps you stuck with him.

If the fans reaction counts for anything (and it does), with this loss, I believe Rhule has officially lost the fan base. Honestly, finishing 6-6 or maybe 7-5 is same old same old. Fans want him fired now. And after this now debacle of a season, I am in support of that..

This team and coaching staff can’t even win the 50/50 games, and will get totally crushed by legit programs like Ohio State and Iowa..

It’s sickening…

For better or worse I don’t think firing Rhule is an option with the increased buyout Dannen masterfully negotiated last year (heaviest sarcasm). They’ll end up firing Holgersen for the atrocious play calling and the fact DCs have largely figured his scheme out.

It will be very interesting to see the dichotomy between a losing team and an AD that doesn’t fully comprehend that the only thing Nebraska has left to hang their hat on is the fans while he increases prices and conducts multiple reseats.

What if he finishes 6-6? He'd be 25-24.

Amazing how quickly it went from "He's gonna be at Nebraska forever, yay!" to "is he even the right coach?"

If you want Matt Rhule gone, I guess that's your choice. But if you're looking for the next Urban Meyer, Nick Saban or Curt Cignetti, forget it. They're just not out there. Who in their right mind would want to come to coach here knowing they can be fired after 3-4 years if they have a lousy record?

I advocate being patient with Rhule, but being pretty aggressive at cycling through assistants until we find good ones. I think there is real value to continuity at the head coaching position.

This is asinine. There's no shortage of people willing to accept $8m+ to come coach us. lol if you think a coach would be sad to only be paid $10m for 3-4 years, wiping their tears with the $30-40m. The bigger issue is giving long contracts.

Others replied on this, too, but no, he was a below 0.500 coach at Baylor and only 28-23 at Temple. Yes, both of those instances trended up but no, he was never a Cignetti type of level before this. He was approximately a 0.500 coach before, and that's what he is at Nebraska, too. And really, just look at his "success" at Baylor in 2019. He lost every game to ranked opponents and racked up Ws against an incredibly weak schedule.

When you combine that with his failure in the NFL, there's no evidence that he's a good coach.

Here we go again, someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about when they mix in the NFL. He built each program from scratch. Year 2 was .500 or better and each year after that was 10+ wins. So he lost to Oklahoma twice and Georgia, big whoop. Happens to 95% of college teams. I can only imagine what Husker fans would be like if a season like that played out. So yes, he has now become a disappointment because of what he was able to achieve previously. However, now you’re stuck with him because of the contract.

Matt Rhule in no way built up Baylor. That was Art Briles.

EDIT: and don't forget that Jim Grobe went 7-6 before Matt Rhule got there and went 1-11 in his first year. Matt Rhule arguably *underperformed* with the talent he had there.

What?! Lol. Wow! Completely glossing over the whole situation. Art Briles, the man at the helm, when one of the biggest college scandals happened, which ended that run. Yeah, Grole did a respectable job I suppose but I wonder why he only stayed 1 year. Then Rhule came in and cleaned house within the whole football program. Go read what he had to deal for the roster. Probably just as bad as the new Iowa State coach had to deal with when Campbell left for Penn state. Except back then you couldn’t just use the transfer portal to build a team on the fly. So back to my point, yes, he rebuilt it!

Illinois has been playing better lately and is on a 3 game winning streak. Nebraska is going in the opposite direction. Nebraska’s offensive struggles don’t give much reason for optimism either. Pretty sure we will be 5-4 come Saturday morning. I guess you can always hold out hope for a victory. The close losses lately is reminiscent of the Frost era to me. Rhule must be under tremendous pressure right now, But that’s why he gets the big salary.

not to mention we are living in a different world than we used to. Ryan Day earned Ohio State a natty 2 years ago and is consistently good, but OSU fans murmur about getting him replaced because they lost 2 games. They may be able to get someone better, but even there, finding someone outright better than him is slim to none. Make no mistake, NIL has ruined college football for just about everyone. There is virtually zero loyalty to a university because players are chasing the almighty dollar.

We will never know if we or anyone else finds the next TO. No one gets the years that Tom got before he had the success that he is known for
