Cheesecake Factory - Westroads

I think Ak-sar-ben Village is a little too far from Pacific Street to be defined as "off Pacific." One Pacific Place seems like it would make the most sense for a Pacific St. CF location, but there isn't really any room there.

CF was very interested in a site on Pacific st

Wasn't there a new commercial development being started around the corner of 168th and Pacific?

Isn't it 180th and Pacific? I think that is the location for Retail that HyVee is building at.

Both,
the NW corner of 168th and Pacific was an old golf driving range, the basic dirt work is finished and the roads are going in right now for retail, restaurants, office space and a fuel station.

The NE corner of 180th and Pacific is still raw farmland, where HyVee is said to have an option on.

I can't either..Cheesecake Factory is most likely looking at more dynamic, high profile retail areas of Omaha to place it's location..Assuming this Westroads debacle can't get worked out..

The NE corner of 180th and Pacific is still raw farmland, where HyVee is said to have an option on.

According to the County Accessor HyVee owns the land., However all the other lots are still for sale.

I would add to the list of what I miss

-Old Mill BBQ
-Fenwick's
-Leonarda's (alfredo to die for... sigh)

And Shakeys which I remember as a kid. No idea if it was good food or not but it was fun as a kid.

After visiting Minneapolis 3 times this year and never eating at a chain, I wish more parts of Omaha had local shops and restaurants. Benson, Dundee, and South O are about the only places that do really. I imagine people don't have the capital to open up a mom and pop shop on 144th & Maple.

I think I mentioned here before... my grandfather's Benson neighbor played the banjo at Shakey's at 90th and West Center for years. They had an article about him in the paper a couple of decades ago or more. I miss that place too (and can't remember if the food was any good).

There are many local shops and restaurants in the outlying parts of Omaha... maybe not in those areas anchored by major national retailers. Consider an example like Legacy at 168th and West Center alone... it is dominated by local restaurants/retailers (Roja, Upstream, Ellada, WNS Boardhouse, Luxe Pet Boutique ;) , etc, etc)

Now this said... my favorite restaurants are almost all east of 72nd Street. Does that mean most people are passing up local restaurants in favor of all these new national chains? Probably.

Old Mill BBQ was the only BBQ restaraunt that Omaha has ever had that compared to the better BBQ restraraunts in KC.

There used to be a great Chicago style pizza place on 108th and Q. Lario's maybe? It was great.

I've gotta disagree with you on this one Greg..I mean Old Mill BBQ was good..But they closed mainly because their overhead was so high..

Have you tried Jim's Rib Haven on 40th and Ames? Or Ozark Smoked Meats at 114th and Center? Or Amarillo BBQ in Bellevue? Those 3 places are every bit as good as Old Mill, or any BBQ I've eaten in KC, Texas, or Memphis..

Even McKenna's at 74th and Pacific is good quality..

And I've eaten a lot of BBQ..

My sister was saying to me the other day that they are moving dirt around in the NW corner of Westroads parking lot - since I am in Spain, I have no real idea whether this is true or not. She did say that she thought it was the beginnings to the CF. Maybe someone can check in on it or provide any other kind of details.

Judge backs Cheesecake Factory

Construction of a Cheesecake Factory restaurant at Westroads Shopping Center is moving closer, thanks to a court ruling this week.

According to Derr's order, the land selected for the proposed restaurant is located on the southwest corner of Westroads directly east of two other restaurants, P.F. Chang's and Macaroni Grill.

From the W-H piece:

'Ruge said his client would not defy the judge's order but some clarification was needed. Ruge called Cheesecake Factory one of the most popular restaurants with strong parking needs. Building the restaurant in the southwest corner, near P.F. Chang and Macaroni Grill, further reduces convenient parking and visibility, Ruge said.

"That's not to say that the Cheesecake Factory would not be beneficial to the mall overall, but convenient parking is essential for an anchor such as Younkers."'..

I think it has boiled down to parking. On a busy day there is not a lot there to begin with. If I was Younkers I'd be upset. I went to that Younkers when they had there charity event/sale a while back and the lot around them was jammed. Can't imagine if you added the cheesecake crowd to that mess.

While I understand the idea that the desired location has great visibility, my opinion is that the old Younkers space has better parking and fronts the middle of the mall.

They would have made a nice anchor for west village point or one of the newer places west of Village Pointe.

On the other hand, General Growth does have a relationship with CF.

But then again, it looks like we're getting the 'next best thing'..A stand alone CF restaurant..And suprise! Real close to a PF Chang's..

By the way, and I thought I posted this a week or two ago, my wife and I ate at Roja a couple of Saturdays ago.

It was outstanding. The service, the menu, the atmosphere were all great. I believe its owned by the same people that own Blue and one or two others. First and formost, the food was perfect. Good sized portions and great taste. The service was also perfect. The server was friendly and attentive. It was crowded but we got a great table next to what I can only describe as an artificial river. Try the "mojedo" or whatever the cuban drink is called. Its out of this world.

Nice to see a locally owned restaurant succeed.

Everything dosn't need to be out west, They would be a great anchor in the soon to be empty Dundee Hardware.

I think CF would completely overwhelm parking in Dundee. I think it would have worked at Ak-Sar-Ben though.

I was just using that as an example. You need to keep midtown going, you just can't put everything "NEW" out west

As far as parking, in Dallas There is an area Just like Dundee except 50th street would also have diagonal parking. One corner was Crate and Barrel, one was an Aplle Store, one was a Z Galery(sp) and the final corner was a big popular mexican resterauant, plus there were other stores not on the corner. Parking on a saturday afternoon was not bad. We had to walk less than a block. people in omaha just want a big old lot so that they can circle and circle until they get that front door parking spot.

My girlfriend I went to Jobber's Canyon last thanksgiving and one of their recommended drinks was the Mojito, so my girlfriend got it, loved it.

A few months later there was an article in (Time, possibly) about how americans are getting into more sophisticated cocktails (the Mojito was one of the key drinks they talked about).

Then the Mojito is featured somewhat prevelently in Steve Martin's new movie "Shopgirl."

Anyways....I'm going to say the trend all started at Jobber's Canyon

There are times I really miss Dallas. I bought my iPod at that Apple store in 2003 (battery hasn't died yet!). Then I celebrated my impulse buy (some guy at work had an iPod and it was love at first sight, the iPod, not the guy) at the Mexican place. Name escapes me at the moment. There's also a Pottery Barn on one corner. The intersection is McKinney and something.

This is just rumor... but I heard it from several different sources...

Cheesecake Factory is taking over the Legacy Upstream location.

The same reasons given as with the Laslo's (false) rumor, the Upstream investors want to get out from under the 'cost' of that location.

The Laslo's rumor made more sense to me, with the brewery and all, but CF has shareholder cash to work with.

What CF would do with the brewery is another question.

Anyone else heard this?

Nope and for the life of me I can't understand why Upstream would want to close their west location. From what I heard it does more business in both beer and food sales than the downtown location. I was there a few weeks back on a Wednesday and it was packed. Sure there was a table or two open but it was busy and that was a Wednesday!!! I thought about that rumor while I was eating there and thought to myself no way!! Not to mention that why would you send you head brewer to Scotland to become a Master Brewer if you were going to scale back. I heard that they actually looked into bottling their beer but decided that it might be to difficult to run two successful restaurants and manage distribution at the same time. Two entirely different animals!!

I certainly could be wrong think it is just a silly rumor that should probably stop until we have good proof. I would hate to see the restaurant close because everyone quit going because they thought it was closing. Rumors are fun and all but we need to be careful.

I personally think these rumors about the Upstream are ridiculous... although I can't see people deciding to not go there because they think it might be closing. If anything, I think they'd see an increase in patronage.

I have not heard of this rumor Lonnie..And honestly, the Legacy Upstream is always packed whenever I drive by the place (which is easily 4-5 times a week)..So I question any 'rumors' out there that the Legacy Upstream is closing due to lack of business or high cost of operation..I just don't see it as even remotely possible..

As it relates to Cheesecake Factory..It's pretty much a done deal that CF will build their free-standing restaurant at Westroads now that the courts have ruled in their favor..In addition to the information contained about this in the W-H last week, my restaurant source indicated the same thing to me last weekend..
