NWC 120th and L power center

I believe someone had posted part of this in the rumors perhaps...

According to the Lundco's semi-annual retail report, Target and Best Buy are going here. Holy cow... what are we up to? 6 metro Best Buys?

The Target and Best Buy are said to be part of a 467,000 square foot power center.

There's a Super Target on 128th-132th and Maple, North side. I'd hate to see that go vacant.

On 120th & Maple, SE corner is Mulhall's. SW corner is Fantasy's gas station. NE corner is Knolls golf course and bird habitat, NW corner is tranquility park. Are they planning on ditching the soccer fields? It's the only open spot that I can think of. The bird habitat area isn't big enough.

Smart move on Best Buy's part. They upset off a lot of people (myself included) when they simply abandoned the South side of town by moving to Dodge. I have refused to drive out to the new store, opting for WalMart as my primary choice for music and DVD's.

Is this the east end of the Avaya site. Isn't this where Millard Lumber was moving to, or has that changed? Is there enough room for both? So you will have a Best Buy, Sam's Club, Super Wal-Mart, Super-Target and two Giant Hardware stores. Squeeze in a Super-Kmart and a Lowe's and we would have a perfect storm.

Can I ask a question in all seriousness here? When someone makes the decision to live in the burbs, what makes one area stand out over another? I ask this because the above quote could describe ANY major intersection in any city anywhere in the country.

Is it strictly the type/cost of house you are looking for? I swear I can't tell the difference between anything west of 90th, and other than what school district you might be in (for now), I don't know that residents of those areas can either.

I chose Northwest Omaha over Southwest Omaha because I thought traffic flow was so much better there. They built so close to the streets in some areas of SW Omaha (especially Millard) and I don't think they projected the traffic on Center to get so bad. Maple out west at least does not have so many stop lights and it's wide enough to expand as needed. I avoid SW Omaha at all costs during peak travel times.

-Ironically, I SW Omaha for the same reason. However, I think it depends how far West you live. I agree that far SW Omaha is worse for traffic, as they have done a TERRIBLE job in widening the streets.

However, I think SW is better for the first couple miles west of the interstate. I know my wife used to take forever to get from 120th and Blondo to the interstate. It takes us little time to get from 138th and Harrison to the interstate.

That said, I also like the close proximity to Lincoln. If I ever need to go there, it takes about 30 minutes.

Millard Lumber will move to site near L and 132nd

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Millard Lumber expects to move just north of the Wal-Mart at 132nd and L Streets early next year, the company's president said.

The company has inspected the buildings and site on the old Avaya property over the past several months and plans to buy about 70 acres there.

The article on Millard Lumber indicated that the Millard Towne Square deal does not look like it's going to happen due to lack of funds. It appears that property is in play for whoever comes up with a plan and the funds to go forward.

Looks like they've been working on this site quite a bit lately. Target, Best Buy, Home-Depot, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. wow....there's going to be a lot of traffic around 120th & L. Even I Street will probably crowded too.

Target's a done deal - they have their infamous "target" dot on the side of the construction trailer up there already.

I dunno about BB - I can't see that being true, but I definitely don't know a lot...

The developers expect BB to be there. I don't know if that means they have all signed on the dotted line or not, however.

This should be interesting to see what other national tenants go in, considering that most of them are in the Center St. / Oakview Corridor. Maybe some like a Borders, or Bed Bath and Beyond, or Petsmart wouldn't be too far out of the question I guess. I can't wait to hear some announcements!
