I heard from someone today that HY-VEE has bought the block on the NW corner of State and N. 30th and plans to build a HY-VEE Hometown store there.

According to the Accessor, nothing is official yet. The Block is owned by all different prople so it might take a while to get everyone to sell. Also the Block is part residential and part commercial.

What exactly entails a Hy-Vee Hometown? Would it be like a corner grocery store?

If HyVee Puts in a smaller store, they are making a wrong decision. They are under extimating that part of town. THat part of town would love to have a full blown grovery store. They have a No Service Frills and a small ghetto bakers. I Think a HyVee would do quite well there. You also have to think that I nice store on 30th and State could draw people from the Ponca hills area as well as the farmland on the north side of CB.

If this does indeed happen, the Hy-vee would be more substantal in size and scope than the Bedford Market..

I hope this rumor becomes a reality!..

This is more than a rumor. Its already been through the Planning Board! Where were you guys? :D
Its a HyVee drug store, not a grocery store.

The drug store already exists on the NE corner. That's what I don't get. There are things, like a house for one, on the NW corner. So what's going on? Is the existing stuff being torn down or is it not really the NW corner?

The person I got the information from said the NW corner ---- there are like some houses and a bar i think he said on that block.

He is looking to start a second career after retiring from his first and has been talking to people he knows that manage other HY-VEEs. He is hoping to be employed at this one when it gets built as he lives up in Ponca Hills. So I was going by what he told me.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Florence will have a new drugstore by year's end.

Ground was broken Friday for a new Hy-Vee drugstore at 30th and State streets. The new building will be directly west of the old store and nearly three times its size.

Hy-Vee worked with the city to design a building that will fit in with the Historic Florence Business District.
We are the people our parents warned us about.

That sounds like a step in the right direction. It will be very cool to see a HyVee that looks like it was built in 1850....sarcasm......... No really it is a step in the right direction...Kudos to the city!!

That's an overstatement to be sure! HyVee is building what will look far more like a suburban store than one to fit in with Florence... My understanding is that HyVee has been a bully through most of the process and not working very nicely with the City...

Hy-Vee, operator since 1998 of the former Florence Drug Co., will move across the street Monday into a new stand-alone drugstore and neighborhood market in Florence.
The new $5.6 million, 18,000-square- foot Hy-Vee Drugstore at 8404 N. 30th St. is the first the chain has built in Nebraska.

The store is similar in many respects to a Walgreens, with a drive-through and a large pharmacy, aisles of health-care and beauty products, canned goods, cleaning products, baby products, gifts and a digital photo processing center.

But Jurgens said it has a wider array of groceries - including fresh packaged meats, dairy, organic produce, frozen foods and some grab-and-go deli items.
The store also has a large home medical equipment section, an attached liquor store, its own dietitian and an open, modern look.
