A massive warehouse project and 70 new jobs with the potential for several hundred more. La Vista is winning some business... with Paypal and now this.

I'm sure there'll be a search for another retailer (hopefully it won't end up a Salvation Army super store!). Of course Albertson's still remains vacant on the southwest corner as well. 84th through La Vista/Papillion could use a shot in the arm... this area should be much more robust given it represents one of the fastest growing parts of the metro.

OTC to expand again?
The LaVista Warehouse
There is "Soil Compaction" going on just west of the current bulding! Also there is a KEWIT trailer in the empty lot.

I believe the trailer that is on the northwest corner of their campus has been there since the beginning of construction of the first building.Brad wrote:OTC to expand again?

But here is what I posted elsewhere:
According to The Gross & Welch Real Estate Group this $32.5 Million, 600,000 sq ft building was just Phase I for OTC's 1.2 million square foot facility there.
And according to OPPD " The company may expand its operations in the future to include a $21 million processing center, which will provide jobs for 400, and another warehouse, which will employ 100 employees."

Shoppes on Giles. That would be across the street (west - to the left) from where this picture was taken.

I don't like th idea of the shopps on Giles. There is Mayfair right up the road sitting empty. There is ValVista on the NW corner of 108 and Giles, still sitting empty. Finally a 1/2 mile away they are building the HUGE southport developmen. Not to mention all the commercial all along 84th street.
Coyote, you beat me. I took a whole bunch of papio/lavista pictures on friday, but worked som much, I havent posted them yet.

There is now a Hawkins Construction sign on the SE corner of 114th & Giles. Looks like Phase II will begin soon.

OTC loan on the table
La Vista Sun wrote:The company recently constructed a 600,000 square-foot warehouse at 11201 Giles Road in La Vista. It opened last year with approximately 70 new employees. The company now plans a second 250,000 square-foot center, which will be used primarily to process and fill orders. OTC will use the loan to pay for machinery and equipment associated with the new center, Churchill said.

Buyout group seeks to sell Oriental Trading-sources
Reuters wrote:The Omaha, Nebraska-based company is expected to fetch around $1 billion, according to sources who have seen proprietary financial information relating to its sale.First round bids were due about a week ago, sources said. Private equity firms are said to be aggressively pursuing the company, along with some corporate buyers, sources said.
Sources say that according to the financial information -- or books as they are known -- the Oriental Trading business is growing rapidly, by some estimates 10 percent to 15 percent year over year.

I was looking at this yesterday when I was leaving work. I thought it was interesting that the "adition" looks more like a seperate building butted up to the existing building. All of the wall pannels are being poured on site.

I had to take a double look at this because I couldn't tell if they were adding a wall that abutted the existing wall of the original warehouse or if they were stripping the existing wall to get ready for the new addition. I still can't tell. Brad - did you see them pour this new wall?

Yes, they were pouring part of it very late on a friday night after I got off of work at the bar. I also saw them puting up one of the pannels the other day. You can see in your first picture it appears the building is not just going to be an extension of the first building its either going to be wider or they are going to make it "L" shaped.Coyote wrote: Brad - did you see them pour this new wall?

Here come the walls. It look like it will extend just a little further to the west. Somehow I thought the addition would be larger than this.

That first building is so large it makes the addition small.Coyote wrote:Here come the walls. It look like it will extend just a little further to the west. Somehow I thought the addition would be larger than this.

I guess so Brad. 250,000 Square feet as opposed to 600,000. When all is said and done 1,200,000 square feet.
The walls look so thin also. Not much insulation - I wonder how cold it gets in winter there.

Finally I found this old image. I know that design schemes change before construction begins - but it looks like there will be parking lots at then end of this extension and will not be the L shape we saw earlier.

Oriental Trading Co. has growth in mind as it marks its 75th anniversary
Omaha World Herald wrote:Oriental Trading Co., which today will dedicate its expanded La Vista warehouse operation and which will mark its 75th anniversary this year, has passed $600 million in annual sales, about half of that over the Internet. The next step, Frary said, is to expand Oriental Trading's sales into new markets — school supplies, weddings, scrapbooking, for example — and to take full advantage of Internet-based marketing. Four years ago, the company began selling school supplies, a field with many competitors. Because of its high-value reputation among teachers, the school-supply area turned a profit within six months. Sales are growing by more than 10 percent a year.
At the new distribution center in La Vista and a warehouse in Omaha, employees unload as many as 100 shipping containers a week, usually routed by sea through Los Angeles and delivered by rail and truck. The new distribution center employs a new system to unpack and sort the goods, promising a 30 percent gain in productivity. Frary said the center can handle a $25 order and a $30,000 order simultaneously.
