From the W-H:

It looks like you'll be able to have a drink outside of the Drafthouse sports bar after all.

The catch: You'll have to go next door to a new restaurant after the Douglas County Board approved it for an outdoor liquor license Tuesday.

The County Board's action Tuesday frustrated Mark Kroeger, owner of the Drafthouse, which serves hamburgers, pizza, french fries and beer next door to Himberger's grilled salmon, shrimp and tenderloin appetizers.

"I am so frustrated right now that I can't articulate my feelings," Kroeger said. "This is discrimination at its finest. It is ludicrous."'..

When the draft house opened there was a big stink because "it was too close to daycare". Which is stupid since one is only open in the day and the other dosn't get busy until the night. You go to that bar on the north side of center between 156 and 168 the beer garden shares a common fence with the daycare playground, double standard. The drafthouse is getting screwed.

It's sad. People don't know what to be afraid of but afraid they are.

Although I don't feel one open and shoot down the DraftHouse it looks like from the article that the Draft House has kind of created their own PR mess.
The board squelched a request for a beer garden at the Drafthouse last week after receiving numerous complaints from neighbors of the bar at a strip mall near 180th and Pacific Streets.
The County Board denied Kroeger's request for a beer garden after neighbors complained about loud music, fighting, shouting, broken bottles, reckless driving, liquor license violations and people urinating on landscaping at the Drafthouse.

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission in Lincoln received similar complaints about the Drafthouse after a St. Patrick's Day bash that Kroeger himself admits went "a little bit over the edge," said Hobert Rupe, the commission's executive director.

I think the neighbors had a valid complaint about Kroeger's business and Kroeger hasn't attempted to work it out. Rather than fume about it, he should take a hard look at how he operates.

Exactly - they denied a license to a business that has had admitted problems in the past and are giving a license to a new business that has not had any problems.

I don't see any issue at all - the Drafthouse guy didn't take care of his business like he should have and now needs to prove he can run the business tight enough to justify giving him the privilege of an outdoor garden.
