Omaha by Design helps OPPD to choose 72nd Street instead of
the proposed Keystone trail. Sounds like OPPD even thought
of 'condemning' the trail:

Thank God for Omaha by Design.

It's startling how arrogant OPPD was about its "right" to use the trail despite public and official objections.

It looks like Omaha has an aesthetic activist group with a lot of pull. Omaha is going to benifit greatly from the efforts of this group.

Trails will connect west Douglas County with Omaha and Fremont.
The already large system will compete with the best metro trails anywhere. I don't know where they are with the plan to connect Omaha with Lincoln using the abandoned track that crosses the Platte at South Bend, but when that happens I wonder how it will compare to other Metros.

Maybe long-term, there will be a connection to the Cowboy Trail. Imagine being able to bike from Chadron to Omaha!

I just figured out a while back... that when they complete the segment from Papillion to west Omaha via the west Papio... I could ride my bike to the Papillion YMCA, shower... ride across the street to my work (and ride back home)... it's a straight shot! About 25 miles each way... but I'm riding that pretty routinely to a more hilly Zorinsky Lake path and home... it's as flat as a table along the creek (might not even break a sweat!).

Great News!!

Jeff, that would be great to be able to ride your bike to work and have a place to shower. I ride my bike a lot, and I LOVE the trails. I always want to be able to ride to work or school, but I don't want to be all sweaty and gross once I get there.

I think it would be so cool if they managed to connect Cowboy Trail (The Longest rails to trails in the nation) with the Omaha/Fremont system.
